From a free agency perspective, does a Rougned Odor or Yolmer Sanchez interest you? Its rough out there. Honestly, Harrison probably is the best option. I'd rather just roll with the kids, or try to get someone like Wendle from MIA.
-
They wouldn't. But that's not really the deal that was being discussed.
-
Yes, I think TA will be better than Chisholm the next 2 years. This proposed trade just shifts the hole in the infield from 2B to SS. Doesn't make any sense to me. I'd love to acquire Jazz, but for it to make sense, you'd need it to be for prospects, not TA or AV....in my opinion.

I've been making this point continuously on here all offseason. I don't know why I find myself defending Leury - I actually don't like him at all - but folks are acting like his $5.5M AAV (literally like 2.5% of the payroll) actually meaningfully changes things. If Leury has an average season for him in 2023 and 2024, he quite literally will be worth his contract. Furthermore, the Sox are paying Leury regardless. Cutting him solves nothing, especially when there aren't any better options in the org. Cutting him and then signing another utility player (say Jonathan Villar) just makes the dollar problem worse, and you probably aren't getting a better player. If Leury continues his awful play into 2023 - then ya, give him the Keuchel treatment. But there is no good reason to cut him right now. It was an awful deal, likely led by TLR. But it is what it is, and its not really the difference between anything.

If you're going to trade TA, you should trade him for a prospect haul and tear it all down, which obviously isn't the plan after signing Benintendi. Flipping TA+ for Jazz makes this team worse.
-
Woof what’s the point if you’re moving TA

The Marlins aren't trading Jazz Chisholm without the deal being headlined by a top 50 prospect. If the Sox could get him for spare parts and without including Montgomery/Colas, he'd be on the Sox, or another team by now.

Probably means Twins plan to sign one of Cutch, Duvall, Pham, Mancini after trading Kepler. The only right handed hitting OF besides Buxton on the 40 man is Celestino who isn't very good. Gallo continues to be a very strange move for them. -

That's a surprising move with the Twins having all those lefties. -
Amazing.

I believe this is also the Corlas guy, so the math checks out.

The Sox aren't trading any relievers at this point, certainly not Liam. Jazz is an awesome fit, but I just struggle to see how we could make it work. The deal obviously starts with Montgomery. Does Montgomery + one of Sosa/Ramos/Rodriguez + Vera + one of Kelly/Thompson/Simas get Miami interested? Idk. But that's about the best we could realistically offer. I don't want to trade Montgomery at all, but Jazz has 4 years of control. He is one of the few guys I'd let Colson go for. With Jazz in hand, you can afford to trade from the Sosa/Ramos/JRod group - I'd probably lean towards moving Ramos as he has helium and is least likely to stick in the IF. I'd try to hang onto Sosa as we're going to need someone to cover SS once TA leaves after 24, and he seems most likely of the three to be that guy. So my proposal would be Montgomery + Ramos + Vera + their choice of Kelly/Thompson/Simas.

I think this deal is a home run for the Twins. But there is plenty here for them to worry about. Two major market teams backed out of deals, one of which being the free spending Mets who have spent without 2nd thought. For Cohen to cut his offer in half after the Giants debacle, there is clearly very bad stuff in the physical. If Correa has a brutal injury in the first half of the deal, this couple be a franchise crippling signing for the Twins. That said, without knowing exactly what the concern is beyond it being related to the 2014 plate surgically installed in his leg, I would be overjoyed if the Sox made this signing. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a good bit of downside risk, and this is coming from someone who has said multiple times I don’t expect Correa to become a pumpkin anytime soon.

Even if the Sox were to sign Elvis, Leury is still the 26th man. It’s Romy that would probably lose his roster spot. No reason to cut Leury right now. -
I started hearing this had real legs late last week. Twins did $10M better than the number I was given at 6/$210M, and the annual vesting options can be considered nothing but a huge win for the Twins. Like I said earlier, not ideal situation at all as it pertains to the Sox. Twins much better today than they were yesterday.
-
So its an annual renewal. Twins did well here.
-
The guaranteed AAV went up $5.33M tho. If Correa is largely healthy for them, this contract is a home run for them.
-
Not ideal.

And the Twins had competent management and the White Sox most certainly did not. There are arguments both ways. But all the chips fell, and the Twins were still behind the Sox even with the season going horribly off the rails. The Twins were also crippled with injury to be sure, not discounting that. Its all conjecture, but I don't think its fair to confidently state the Twins are a better team than the Sox if they sign Correa. But I do believe 2023 will be a three team race if the Twins ultimately do land him. -

Well they were a third place team behind the Sox last year with Correa, so not sure the math really checks out. Both teams of course were far from full strength. -

Yeah, all their balls were in the Correa court with seemingly little in the way of back up plans. Strange strategy. That said, they're very likely getting Correa now. I know some folks, and they've very confident atm. Which is a damn shame. Correa will also be domino for them; Kepler is good as gone, and they will add SP. I could see them being a fit in a larger deal for some of the Marlins SP. I just would have much preferred to see them try to patch work a roster with their savings than add Correa and build around him. As i've said before, I am not privy to Correa's medical records, but I don't see him turning into a pumpkin anytime soon. -

Segura is so meh. I am glad the Sox passed on Segura for what he got. If we aren't getting a really good 2B that fits the team well - which we obviously are not at this point - just give me a platoon guy that can also cover the OF. I think that is a much better fit than trying to repeat the Harrison tactic again in 23, or signing a declining player to a 2 year deal.
