  1. While on this topic, the signing of Benintendi does effectively end Eloy's days as a primary OF. Beni cannot be relied on to play RF - he has yet do it in his career and I don't see our new staff trying that. Eloy isn't going to play RF, I wouldn't think. So unless Benintendi is on the IL, or getting a blow against a tough LHP, Eloy isn't going to be playing any LF. I think this is major positive of Benintendi's lack of experience in RF. Another OF, such as Conforto, would have given the org the opportunity to continue to try to jam Eloy into LF at times. The less that happens, the better.
  2. Probably not, but they do need relief pitching. Marte probably doesn't have a ton of trade value, so they can't really expect to get much prospect-wise. They could of course hold in hopes he has a big 2023, and then re-assess. He is controlled thru 2027 at $73M ($14.6M AAV), with a $13M club option for 2028.
  3. Dbacks are said to be seeking RP. With Ketel’s contract, he probably doesn’t have a ton of surplus value coming off 22. Perhaps Sox could get him for something like Graveman + Burger + backend filler piece (Dalquist/Yolbert type). They have room to give Burger at bats. Impact to Sox payroll only a few million for 2023. edit - not that it means much, but trade sim says that deal is well in favor of Dbacks and even would be flipping Kelly in for Graveman. Doubt dbacks would view it that way, tho!
  4. Dbacks seem to be in a bit of limbo following the Varsho deal. Would love to get Marte from them. Segura would be better than nothing but just don’t love that fit.
  5. Signed with an NPB club today. He gowne
  6. Sox are in my dna. Not much I can do about it. Considering the limitations with the org, they’ve been largely at least competitive for large portions of my life (I’m 32). They are frustrating as can be, but that’s fandom for most professional sports franchises. I am hopeful that when JR moves on, we’ll see things operated different the following 3 decades of my life. I prefer to be hopeful than the alternative when it comes to the Sox, there’s enough other BS in life to worry about.
  7. I was referring to an introductory press conference. I would wager that whoever signs Bauer, does not to an introductory press conference.
  8. Sosa very well may be our starting 2B right now. I thought that was what you wanted? Certainly expect you to complain if any 2B is brought in to help solidify the situation.
  9. That said, if someone likes Seby and you can turn him into a SP with options that is an improvement on what Martin/Burke/Stiever can give you right now, the Hendriks for Jansen+ scenario begins to interest me more, especially if we can get one of their IF/OFs too (Biggio, Gurriel, Merrifield, Espinal). All those guys would be useful on this roster. I am not completely sold on Seby's 2022, but perhaps other clubs wouldn't be either. That said, have to imagine there is some interest in him league wide - he was pretty good last season. On the flip side, I also could see Grifol and his staff improving Seby's receiving significantly. But all of these scenarios still include Yaz on the roster, at least to start. How much he plays is going to depend on who the other catcher is, and how healthy/effective Yaz is. I don't think we're going to see prime Yaz in 2023, but I certainly expect a vast improvement on his 2022. Listen to that interview he gave recently - dude was playing on 1 leg, which led to other injuries, and it just sort of spiraled into a situation that was impacting him in every facet of the game. It does sound like he's healthier right now - at least at the moment.
  10. I am not really that surprised. Had Conforto not hurt himself, he would have gotten 5/$100M easy even with a pretty poor 2021 season. After 2020, Conforto was easily the more attractive player between him and Nimmo, and was looking at a deal approaching $200M. Honestly, I would have been thrilled if the Sox signed Conforto to this deal, before or after Beni. That said, I will take Benintendi - I came around to the better defense after watching the 2022 White Sox everyday, and Beni is a much better fit for improving that.
  11. You don't do press conferences for dudes you sign the the MLB minimum.
  12. Because he was hurt last season and in the past 5 years even including last he’s still easily been a top 3 catcher in the game. You’re paying him regardless. Eloy needs to DH and just lost his LF spot. You have to try to glean some value out of Yaz’s remaining season of control.
  13. McNeil is effectively worthless to the Sox in this scenario.
  14. Ehh....Sox could really use Eloy's power. If he plays 130 games, he could hit 35+ homers. If he plays 150+, he could in the HR chase. If Eloy has a season he is capable of in 2023, his value will be significantly higher than it is right now with still 3 years of pretty cheap control in today's environment after 2023. I am holding Eloy for sure for the time being.
  15. Yeah. I mean you can only trade Liam for a haul and keep a straight face about trying to win the central in 23.
  16. That deal (McNeil + Escobar + Alvarez for Liam) would be amazing but Sox would take on money in it, and it leaves NYM without a 2B. It just feels incredibly far fetched in multiple ways. Take out McNeil and maybe we have something the Mets would consider.
  17. Happy for Danny. Was kinda hoping we'd be able to snag him on an milb deal in like February, but he deserves this.
  18. Burger shouldn't sniff the MLB roster if its healthy. He'll certainly be needed at some point, but if Burger breaks camp with the team, that is very bad news.
  19. You complain about everything. You complain when the Sox don't make moves. You complain when the Sox do make moves. You complain when the Sox don't play kids. You complain when the Sox don't churn the back of the 40 man. You complain when the Sox do churn the back of the 40 man. The Sox got a live arm with an option (which is quite important for their roster) for a soon to be 27 year old soft tossing RHP every team in baseball could have had for $100k like 2 weeks ago. While its nothing to write home about, there is certainly no discernible reason to complain about this deal.
  20. I think this is much more likely. Or perhaps McCann was just jaded at the time he made the NTC. Some reset annually, but if he had to make his when he signed, the Sox had just signed Grandal a couple weeks earlier and if McCann wanted to return he was likely pretty salty about it. In any event, who really cares what McCann thinks. The entire coaching staff is completely different than it was when McCann was here, and of course over the past 2 years. I don't think players are making these kinds of decisions based on the FO personnel or ownership.
  21. This is the most insane trade proposal I’ve seen yet.
