If you can make it an even $ swap, taking McCann back without moving Yaz and then trading Seby for some rotation depth makes some sense. Got to have that trade lined up tho; Seby should have some value after his 2022, and I don't want to just DFA him. But yeah, I don't even know why I am going down this McCann rabbit hole.

Yeah, I would think the general idea is 1) they have too many catchers; and 2) they would like to dump some money. Yaz + Leury for McCann + Escobar does neither. They get a more expensive catcher, and a far worse infielder. It doesn't solve either of their needs.

75% of this board was in shambles when he left. Dude's always been a meh player. Was solid for the Sox, but yeah....definitely would have been an awful deal to beat the one the Mets gave him.

I love it if he's in AAA. He's such a good guy to have around the clubhouse. My guess is if he's settling for milb deal in December, he didn't have many options. But I totally agree with you - there should be multiple options used before we resort to giving Billy Hamilton an actual 26 man roster spot. I like Kevin Pillar; he should be pretty cheap but he certainly cannot play IF.

I think these are the best FA options. Unlikely Sox don’t make a trade at this point and I’m guessing this role is filled via that, whatever it may be. Also Profar has played so little IF recently that it concerns me a bit, but otherwise love that fit.

If that happens this is one of the best teams in baseball. It’s very unlikely they get 150+ out of all those guys, tho.

Problem really is health. Robert misses extended time, which is something we frankly should expect, Sox are rough shape. Same goes for Benintendi for that matter. Another major league quality player out there would be ideal.

For what it’s worth, I would love the Sox still adding Conforto. But it’s not gonna happen. Sox aren’t gonna block Colas at this point. I do still think we see another OF added - one that is an improvement on the current options of Reyes, Payton and Billy the Jet, but not a slam dunk starter in RF. Someone who can cover 2B and add an option there as well would be swell. I still think it’s unlikely Colas is up on Opening Day.

Me thinks Kelly is going to be very, very useful in 23. Bullpen arms are fickle AF. He had a very goofy season in 22, has an incredible arm and certainly knows what he’s doing out there. The salary isn’t ideal, but especially if Liam gets moved, Kelly is going to be needed.

Don’t hate it, but I need a damn good pitching prospect in that Toronto deal. Losing Liam really shows on that pen.
