  1. Two years of an above average catcher should have value. Its just a bad fit. Jansen isn't even a guarantee to be better than Yaz in 2023, and Yaz isn't moveable and Seby isn't optionable. So we're blowing our main trade chip that theoretically still allows us to compete to get a third catcher, meanwhile leaving our 2 gaping holes in the OF unsolved, and 2B still a bunch of rookies, and still paying Yaz $18.25M? It doesn't make any sense.
  2. "White Sox biggest lineup deficit is their catching" is really all I needed to hear to know this guy doesn't know jackshit beyond the Jays perhaps being interested in Liam. Trading Liam for Jansen would be an awful move for the Sox. The Jays also need LH OF so they can't really help us there. Do not like them as a trade partner at all.
  3. He's certainly not been great since leaving Pittsburgh. But a player than can cover 2B and the OF would be pretty valuable to the Sox. Profar and Drury are really the only 2 left that fit the bill. Profar hasn't played much IF last couple seasons, and Drury hits RH. So neither are perfect. So Frazier was kind of the guy that made the most sense. I probably would have passed for $8M as well, tho.
  4. Bummer. Kinda wanted him tbh. A couple mill more than I’d thought he’d get.
  5. This is starting to feel like the Herb Lawrence thing, and nothing comes off this imminently.
  6. Likely because the same guy that brought this rumor up mentioned Gallo and the Sox about half a dozen times the same day. IDK, just a guess.
  7. Do think Kepler is a really nice fit. Just would be really surprised to see MN move him to the Sox.
  8. I don't even think its based on anything. Just people saying "Oh, no! Not Gallo! How about Benintendi instead?!" I'd be floored if the Sox signed Benintendi.
  9. I will take the over on $14-15M AAV for Benintendi in this market.
  10. Sure. I'd prefer Conforto myself because, like I just laid out for you, he rakes RHP which is a very big need of this team. But yeah, Bellinger would have been just behind Conforto on my list.
  11. OK? Pay the man 2/$30-35M with an opt out after 2023 if he wants it.
  12. Yawn. Who cares about batting average. Conforto is career .265/.371/.502 hitter against RHP. He mashes RHP, which is precisely what this club needs. Is there risk with him being out last year? Yeah, that's why you'll be able to get him on a shorter term deal. He's not old.
  13. Pham would be OK as the 4th OF / Colas insurance. Certainly not as the primary OF addition.
  14. The Sox have like $75M coming off the payroll in 2024. They should have plenty of money to spend in 2024, even if $175M is the threshold.
  15. Yeah, I've never found it to be difficult. But feels like 25% of this board spelled Engel as Engle for the past 5+ years so Benintendi is a big step up in difficulty.
  16. I don't think we're too far off. I mostly agree with all of this. I certainly prefer Benintendi and Conforto as well. But after those 2, there is a big drop off. I think Gallo is the best of the rest. I could see an arugement for Brantley, but I really do want to see the Sox play better defense in 2023. I don't think Gallo will come here and put up a 4 WAR season. But I think he could provide 2-2.5 WAR, play solid LF defense, walk a bit and provide some lineup balance. I too would prefer they Sox have aimed higher and signed Nimmo, but alas... Gallo would also likely provide Eloy the opportunity to play LF against LHP, shifting someone like Burger (if he's on the roster) or Yaz to DH. Yaz, as poor as he was in 22, did still hit LHP well. As much as I'd like Eloy's day in LF to be over, I think he'll get some reps out there.
  17. This. 95/100 times, player goes to team that offers most money (perhaps with tax implications factored in). This thought that the Sox can't sign FAs due to being the Sox is a bunch of BS. They cannot sign major FAs because they rarely have the top offer.
  18. He is a measurably better OF than Conforto or Brantley. I think he'd be the best mostly everyday LF defensively we've seen in Chicago in a very long time.
  19. I kind of hope its Gallo just to see about 75% of this board melt down. I actually think he's a top 3 FA option at the moment, so I wouldn't be upset. Would prefer Beinintendi (don't see it happening) or Conforto (still think that is possible, but certainly prefer Gallo's defense). Brantley would be the 4th best option, IMO.
