  1. To be clear, that quote was from 2017. Not yesterday.
  2. I don't even know that I would deem it optimism at this stage. I certainly don't expect us to hand our a contract bigger than Yaz. I just don't think $180M is as hard of a limit as some do. Even Jimmy was saying just a week ago he expected the Sox to surpass their 2022 payroll. I get everyone is frustrated and the tenor of recent discussions from the FO aren't super encouraging, but I will at least let things play out before lighting my pitchfork. I am certain the club we have now isn't what we'll have come April.
  3. Yes a couple times earlier in the offseason.
  4. Morale of this fan base truly can’t be much lower. I don’t think things are as dire as most, and certainly I find the penny pinching theme to be outrageous at this stage, but Sox really need to make a big move to prove to this fan base they mean business. Rick has said as much earlier this offseason. I still have hope there is more in the tank for this offseason than bargain bin hunting.
  5. Totally agree. But 2/$46M guaranteed for Moncada is definitely a negative value asset at this point. Is it possible he could rebound to a 3-4 WAR player and make it an acceptable last 2 years? Yeah, its possible.
  6. Yeah that seems like a very palatable deal for the Yanks.
  7. What was the Gavin Sheets quote? Must have missed it.
  8. Huh? Moncada's glove grades out exceptionally well. Yoan is a wizard at 3B. Moving him off 3B to put a lesser defender there and downgrading two defensive positions on a team that is poor defensively is.....quite a take. Yoan's contract is very bad. He has no trade value. He is, however, an exceptionally talented player that does a ton of things well that this team is very poor at. He also has significant untapped potential. Let's at least ride out 2023 with the new coaching staff and see what it does for Yoan. I am expecting a very different player (and attitude).
  9. I am still not buying this $180M is the hard limit. I sure JR would love to see it shake out that way, but I doubt its a hard and fast limit. Also, Sox payroll including Clevinger's full $12M and counting the already paid buyouts as 2022 commitments, the current payroll is $168,900,000. Even if $180M is the hard limit, they should have $11M to spend. Obviously more if Hendriks is traded.
  10. I think it is also important enough to note that in Fegans latest article covering Liam coming up on trade talks, he specifically noted that the reports he has heard are that other teams are asking about Liam versus the Sox actively trying to trade him.
  11. See things are bright and chipper in here this am
  12. They won’t pay up for him. But paying Rodon $30M to make a handful of starts for them would be crushing to that franchise. But yeah, he’s nasty when he pitches.
  13. Id love to see the Twins back to the brinks trunk for Rodon. Los is a dude, but his next deal is going to be an awful one.
  14. Diaz is better and younger. That’s why I projected he’d get 63% of what Diaz got. But the fact that there are no premium relievers on that FA market AND Liam’s contract is extremely reasonable, he should have a good bit of value. I wouldn’t trade him myself, but the value should be there.
  15. Agreed now is not the right time to sell TA for many of the reasons stated. He would still return FAR more than a back end top 100 prospect + some “minor throw in piece”. That’s crazy talk.
  16. It’s not tho. Some scrub reliever just got 2/$14M from LA. Diaz, the closest comp to Liam, got 5/$102. Liam would smash 2/$29M if he was a FA. At least 4/$65M range. He should have plenty of surplus value.
  17. Well, there are no elite closers available and one Carlos Esteves just got $14M guaranteed across 2 years, so there very well may be a long line of suitors for Liam.
  18. Bleh. Really don’t like the idea but if the return is good enough I guess….very much one step backwards, to hopefully take one step forward (use the $ towards a real OF) type move.
  19. 2/$13.5M for a pretty meh reliever. Arms are not cheap.
  20. It makes absolutely no sense. I think he’s mad people are “blocking” his dream of acquiring James Outman.
