QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Lex has been written and acted before in a certain way in the past. It's dumb to just reinvent him. It's dumb he's even in this movie probably. It's not even close to being the same thing. So you want everyone who plays a preexisting character to play it the exact same each time? That's not smart or a good idea. What? If you're not going bring something new to the character/story, why do it in the first place? Characters evolve with the times and with the stories that are being written. Characters have been reinvented time after time, look at Batman. Look at all the different incarnations of the character, based on the time he was being written in, the stories he inhabited and the creative people behind him. The Dennis O'Neal Batman and Jeph Loeb Batman are completely different but still Batman. Snyder, Terrio, Goyer and Nolan came up with their story and the world in which that story takes place and came up with the best Lex Luthor for their universe and the story they're telling. He may be reinvented but it's still Lex Luthor. I'm still baffled at the comment. Sorry if my response isn't coherent.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 05:00 PM) Eisenberg should have been studying violent dictators and villainous businessmen, not second generation directors and 20 year old internet billionaires But this Lex Luthor is not a violent dictator yet.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Why would you base Lex Luthor off something that isn't in the comic? And Max Landis? Ok. I liked his Wrestling Isn't Wrestling video but I wouldn't be proud of his writing credits. Chronicle was ok. There is nothing that says you can not bring outside influences to your performance. If anything that means that you're going to get a multi-layered performance. Adam Driver said that he studied violent, religious extremist for his performance as Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. Tom Hardy said the he studied terrorist for his role as Bane and brought that angle to his performance. EDIT: This does not mean that Lex in the DCEU is a screenwriter, Eisenberg is just taking inspiration from Landis's personality.

Apparently Jesse Eisenberg is basing his Lex Luthor off screenwriter Max Landis, he wrote Chronicle, American Ultra and Victor Frankenstein. Apparently the dialogue spoken by Lex in the trailer when he interrupts Clark and Bruce was lifted from real life, from an exchange Eisenberg and Landis had at a party. He said that Eisenberg got him down to the hand movements and mannerisms. I was originally put off by Eisenberg's Luthor in the Comic-Con trailer, but after re-reading Snyder's comments regarding this incarnation of Luthor, how he is based off modern day 20-something year old billionaires (The Founder of GoPro instantly comes to mind) and the Max Landis influence. I am on board. I do think that we will see something closer to traditional Lex as his portrayal goes on. Regarding the VFX in the trailer, I imagine that the majority of it is incomplete and the shots of Doomsday* are what they had available. And I think Doomsday* is going to look closer to his comic-book counterpart as the film goes on.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:41 AM) I would say this dramatically lowers the chances that the Sox deal Sale, and slightly lowers the the chances that they deal Quintana. You don't sign two veteran catchers with limited upside to one year deals if you are trying to rebuild. I think these could qualify as rebuilding moves.... key phrase: limited upside to one year deals.

I have 9 tickets. I am going to the marathon showing on the 17th at the Marcus Theater in Addison. I am seeing it the morning (4am) of the 18th. And my 23rd birthday is the 19 and I have 6 tickets for a morning showing at Navy Pier

A really solid trailer and this movie looks really good. Visually its Zack Snyder unleashed and that's a very goof thing. Its the perfect kind of trailer to put out in front of audiences in whats going to be a massive season at the box office. It wasn't too dark, there was a good bit of humor in there. Loved seeing Lex Luthor kinda-sorta break the fourth wall. Some people said that the trailer showed too much but the filmmakers behind the DCEU are extremely secretive and showed us exactly what they wanted to show us and are keeping the really big surprises a secret. I really like how the DCEU is being built, it makes perfect sense to jump right into Justice League. They're using Superman as a catalyst and the events of Man of Steel as a springboard. Superman's arrival causes the other members of the JL to come out. Just me speculating: Batman is investigating Superman and seeing if he is someone that can be trusted after the Battle of Metropolis (Which in the DCEU is Gotham City's neighbor), Aquaman is pissed off over the damage the ocean and presumably Atlantis experienced due to the World Engine, Wonder Woman is there to stop some kind of cataclysmic event from happening, Cyborg is created by humans experimenting with alien tech, the Green Lantern is policing his space sector and sees some kind of alien activity, and the Flash is there hanging out. Doing a bunch of solo films before JL would have been a huge disservice and jumping right into it really plays up the events of Man of Steel and the importance of Superman. Really excited for this movie.

I don't know about this, I need to see the corresponding move before I can have a opinion on it -
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) Only 2 options I see this team being good in the next year or 2 and sustaining that success into the future 1. Trade 1 of Sale, Q, Rodon 2. JR opens the payroll up to 140+ million And I wouldn't count on option 2... What about making smart baseball decisions, drafting well and good scouting and player development?

No need for a third 1B/DH type. Unless you dump LaRoache.

Ill give it 2.5 years before Boston regrets this deal

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) I'm not a writer but I read a lot and it seems to me that writing a good ending is the most difficult part for a lot of writers. There have been many times where I've read a book and it's really good right up until the ending. Whenever I write something I always have the ending settled and emotional reponse or feeling in mind. It's easier that way, because you know what you're building to. I submitted a story to a Sci Fi mag and the first thing I wrote of the story was the last couple of paragraphs. Which was nice because the ending was actually the beginning of the story. There's a great TED Talk where John Lasseter talks about writing Toy Story 3 with the climax with the fire in mind and writing to that point.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Yep and the SOX still have their resources (prospects/money) to utilize towards getting a 3B and hopefully SS. 2.5M is a small price to pay for a catcher that gets on base, has some pop and throws out base runners pretty well. This is a very reasonable move for the Sox and a smart move at that. They aren't in a position to deal from the farm yet in my opinion.

QUOTE (Whitey @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) Sitting through the past season, I anxiously awaited the accountability and change that undoubtedly would have to come as a response to the overall ineptitude and lack of effort we witnessed last year. Instead, we get the same coach and management back next year, with no real plan in place. Next year could range anywhere from them being a perennial contender, to them needing a complete rebuild… they just have to let it percolate a bit to figure it out I guess. This shows that they have no real vision at all for the future, and no faith in their own scouting abilities. If they did, they would know exactly where they stand, and they would be hitting the ground running. Instead, they are just flopping in the wind, going day to day (decision by decision) it seems. That is pretty alarming to me. Ever since Hahn took over in 2012/2013 there has been some turnover in the front office. Paddy, Haber, Hosteler, come to mind. I remember reading somewhere that Fabian has had an increased role too. Still would like to see Hahn hire his own manager. This is certainly make or break for Robin.

Anyone want to take a stab at the average salary for a backup catcher.
-
Should be a solid back up, nice move.
-
Not uncommon for these types of moves to happen.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) I think the Astros match up nicely with us. If they send us 2 solid young bats, I'm ready to see D Rob in an Astros uniform. Otherwise, I don't mind seeing him dominate half the time he goes out there. I would want an arm back. How tied are they to some of their young arms on the major league club? The only bats that I find intriguing in their system are the three guys that they just drafted (Bregman, Tucker and Cameron). I could see Moran being a 1-2 WAR player at a position of need for the Sox at third, so that would be a guy that you look at.

The Astros are looking for a closer.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) Jeff Nichols has a good track record as well. Maybe the best of any young director. Wasn't a huge fan of "Mud" but appreciated it. "Take Shelter" also great storytelling. I love Mud, it reminded me of growing up. I could relate to every character in that movie. And Nichols is really underappreciated. I was very sad when I heard that he wasn't doing Aquaman. That would have been amazing. Hopefully Midnight Special is a success because I want to see more studio genre films from him.
-
I think that 2016 should be focused on the future and 'infrastructure'. After last year, I think the Sox need to take a long look in the mirror, self scout themselves to the thousandth degree and most importantly acquire as much young talent as possible (Trades, July 2nd, Draft, etc). How many guys in the org, in every level are guys that you can hang your hat on?
-
I do not want Puig anywhere near the Sox, despite liking him as a player.
-
My friend who saw Midnight Special couldn't have been more spot on with his description. The trailer looks great, it's easily on of my most anticipated movies.

So Nice Pizzalatto has signed a huge deal with HBO, that includes some other shows (I think one of them is a bull riding drama) and a potential third season of True Detective. But because of the larger workload, HBO has given him three options on True Detective's third season. 1) Hire another showrunner. 2) Hire a staff of writers. 3) Continue to do everything on his own. A lot of people are saying that this is because of the lukewarm reception of Season 2, but remember this is HBO/WB and they're extremely artist friendly and all of the showrunners at HBO have complete creative control. Plus the second season was still a ratings monster. I really hope that he continues to do everything himself on True Detective, because if he's not the sole voice, it's not True Detective. The same way that David Simon, David Milch and David Chase were the sole voices of The Wire, Deadwood and The Sorpranos. What do you guys want to see from True Detective's third season?

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 12:21 AM) oh boy............. i can see another thread of posters saying why is another thread is being made on a subject .. blah blah... but for your question. the value of the prospect / players are different and have different value. 1. do they trade him for players 2. do they trade him for prospects 3. or both to many variables. Or the sake of debate, I am going to say prospects? What if you got a deal similar to what the Padres got for Kimbrel? Should you trade him in the offseason or closer to the ASB?
