QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Someday when you get fired, we'll see how you like it. I'm at least competent at what I do and more importantly I'm not an asshole. I don't think that will be happening to me anytime soon. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) That's kind of disturbing. Maybe it's just me, but I would hate to fire someone. Even if they were incompetent. The cinematographer I hired, tired to do my job, treated other crew and the cast like s***. Everytime I dressed/composed the scene he would always try to change what I did. Not to mentioned all the film he wasted. I called him and said that he should come in duringn an off day so that we could start putting together an edit. And then fired him. I didn't feel an ounce bad and I told him that he should find a new profession.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) I usually skip watching I,II and III all together. They are fine for telling the back story and there is a couple of cool action scenes, but for the most part they are not good movies. Why?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) Yeah I read that. I agree with the vast majority of what he says, although not to the same degree. The Darth Vader being a total scary bad ass at first and then transitioning to a 2nd in command puss never made sense to me, but I figured, you know, the Force from the emperor or whatever. Has anyone re-watched the movies in that order mentioned in the comments? IV, V, I (or skip it), II, III, VI. I wonder if that helps. Thats how I watch them. Its called machete order.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) I've heard the same thing. That will be stupid. lets hold judgement till we see how the storytellers execute it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Re: age, one thing is that kids can watch those movies. They aren't particularly violent and obviously very little language. So it's one of those movies you can watch when you are young and feel like its an adult movie. 2) The whole mid-late 90s re-release in theaters. Lots of parents took their kids to those. Unfortunately it had all of those stupid extra scenes. It's just hard not to have seen starwars as it has basically had a theatrical release in every decade at this point. First movie I ever saw in a theater was ANH, I was 4 or 5 and I still have the ticket stubs.

I got to tickets to the Star Wars Marathon and 5 for the 18th and 2 for my birthday, the 19th.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) The way I'm reading Joshua's post is that the cubs took the best player available when their turn to pick came up. Who was #1 on their draft board and who was picked before the cubs is irrelevant. What matters is the players that were available at the time of the cubs pick and how the cubs viewed the available players. Joshua, am I reading your post correctly? I'm pretty sure I am and in agreement with you. Yes, you are.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) Is he really though? What he's challenging here is precisely how Schwarber end up being the #2 on the Cub's board in 2014. The Cubs had Schwarber at #2 on their board not because they thought he was the 2nd best player in the draft, but to them he was the second best option when they factoring in the $$(which is the biggest factor), their success in developing hitters, and their plan to develop hitters through the system, then trade or sign pitchers in the FA. In other words, if Sox draft a pitcher who's ranked lower than a hitter on most boards because they have a stronger track record in pitching development, and they could save $$ for later rounds, then they are still taking the BPA from their perspective, which I am fine with as well. $ is not the biggest factor, talent is. If the pick allows for some flexibility with the bonus pool then great, but it's always talent before $.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Thats not true..... you need to factor in $ Isn't that a given?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Hook is the s***. I saw that movie 6 times in theaters. 6 times. I was 10. I watched it no too long ago and it's a little over the top, but not bad. You definitely have to have liked it as a kid to still like it. Funny thing is, the guy who does the voice of Sharky and who performs the music as a real life Sharky is named Loren Hoskins, but he's not related to Bob. Saw TDKR 9 times 6 opening weekend. Saw Revenge of the Sith 10 times, Interstellar 7 and TDK 6. Have all the stubs and proud to say that I saw on them on film (35/70mm) projection.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Schwarber was definitely not the BPA at the time, Baez was a mild reach. Only Bryant was the BPA out of the first round picks. They weren't BPA to you, every team values and scouts players differently and have very different boards. Those three were BPA to the Cubs, and thats why they drafted them

Fired someone today and it felt f***ing great.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 11:24 PM) Yeah, word is he's going to get a QO from the Mets. Which is crazy to me... He's got a decent bat for sure but he is a butcher on defense. It seems like he's going to get a 3-4 year deal worth 12-14 AAV. That's pretty steep for his past performance. I've said it already but I like Steve Pearce a lot. He's a good case for a guy who could hit 15 HRs and have good rates if used correctly. It's so hard to even guess stuff with the Sox because they have so many different places they could use improvements but Pearce could DH/1B/LF and even 2B!!!!: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/steve-pearc...ng-second-base/. He's a cheap option for thump. Keith Law said that the Mets are not going to offer him QO -
QUOTE (MindGame2004 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) Great question. The Jerry loyalty clause? McEwing came up from Charlotte, no? I don't have an answer. Why was Parent expendable other than not being able to speak Spanish? They couldn't find another role for him in the organization? Did he want one? All great questions. I liked the Steverson hire when they made it. Based on the results, either he's bad at his job or they don't listen to him. They're not blaming him for the lack of getting on base, so it if isn't his fault, whose is it? If the players are professional and not accountable for their production why do you pay a hitting coach? Again, great question. No idea why he's still here. Whoever becomes manager, you get Don Cooper. I don't have an answer for that either. I know that Jeff Samardzija wasn't great but also wasn't as bad until he started throwing under Cooper. It doesn't really matter who they hire as manager. If he can't bring in his own guys and has to keep Cooper, it matters little. The point is Jerry loves his kids. We know this. The organization needs a serious cleansing from top to bottom. If we're going to live off of one championship that was ten years ago, cool. Bring in people who know what they're doing so we can win more. There are people all over the game that know the information, how to use it and can at least attempt to put the team in position to be good and stay good. We're seeing nothing but business as usual to this point. Look outside of your own circle and actually interview people for these jobs. Parent was fired because of reasons that are only own to people in the org (at least thats what it souned like from reading the highlights from White Sox Weekly). We know that he was not as sabermetric friendly as Hahn (and Ventura?) would like and that he has had run ins with players on the team. What makes you think Severson is bad at his job, its not his fault that players like Alexi completely reverted. Another thing to consider when judging Severson is the success of position players have been having at the plate in the minors when it comes to their development. Cooper is one of the best pithcing coaches in all of baseball, if not the best. You're going to be hard pressed to find one just as good, so I have no problem with him staying. And a lot of this Jerry loyalty thing is overblown. We all knew that Robin was not going to get fired, its not the Sox thing to just fire people with time left on their contracts and when yu think about it, this past year is the firt real hiccup to happen under Robin's tenure. Laumann is no longer the scouting director is also worth pointing out.

The good always die young. Congrats to Kiley on joining a team with an extremely bright future. I wouldn't be shocked if he is a fast riser.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 12:58 AM) Ugh, son of a b****. First Jason Parks, now Kiley McDaniel....now whose podcast am I going to listen to learn about prospects? His comprehensive list was so incredible, it's going to suck for Fangraphs to replace that kind of work he put in. I'm sure they won't. Kevin Goldstein too.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) His BABIP is out of wack. If the BoSox took Danks and gave us 50 million I'd do it. Not sure what the deal is on his vesting option though. That would be a bigger deal than "something to consider." I definitely think the Sox are interested in taking a risk on a bigger contract on an offensive player with upside. If another team throws a lot of money it could easily end up in surplus value. 1.) Take a calculated risk on a guy with a big contract that another team is willing to pay you to take him. 2.) Move Q for a package of young players. 3.) Augment lineup with a crafty FA signing that has no QO attached. 1.) Trade LaRoche for Ramirez and 40 million. 2.) Trade Quintana, Frankie Montas and Carlos Sanchez to the Cubs for Kyle Schwarber, Jeimer Candelario and Javier Baez. 3.) Sign Uribe. L CF Eaton R 3B Uribe R 1B Abreu L RF Schwarber S DH Ramirez R 2B Baez S LF Cabrera R C Flowers R SS Ramirez Thompson defensive replacement for Thompson/Cabrera. Gets looks against LHP. Johnson gets starts at 2B with Baez getting looks at SS. Get a lefthanded hitting back up for Flowers. Defensive infield is awesome. Flexilbity is there. Schwarber, Uribe, Baez and Ramirez bring badly needed power potential. Hate that Q deal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) Welcome to 2015 where you can't draft the same way as the good old days. Yeah some of those teams overspent in the draft, but they overspent to get what they thought were the best players on the board.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) i can see this debate in a good theory and based on good judgement with available information. with the opinion that sometimes players hopes may not become, if development fails. but when a team is picking in the top 7- 10 i will always take, a pitcher, unless a hitter comes with a huge gossip of being a great prospect. however the level of pitching, at this present time, only the top 2 or 3 are what i would say excellent prospect / sp. however how can you not look acquiring an elite bat over the possibility of getting a sp. now only defense in my point is 2 players who were passed over.... mike trout and giancarlo stanton . Know why the Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, Astros and Dodgers got where they are? Do know how the Braves teams of the 90s became a 15 year dynasty? They took BPA always, regardless of where they picked and what their org needed.

A over 30 declining player, no thanks.

About to see Steve Jobs. I was really excited for this movie and followed the production. I was super stoked that Christian Bale and David Fincher were teaming up to do an Aaron Sprin script, but sadly due to Steve Jobs' widow that won't be happening. When you think about it, the movie we're getting is not the movie that the people involved set out to make. We're getting the compromised version in that sense. Still excited.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Oh I know. I'm just reiterating it. I have a bad feeling that the Sox will f*** up this pick somehow. Ever since the current CBA came into effect, the Sox are a fairly good drafting team, at least when it comes to first round picks. I would like to see them become a little more creative when it comes to spreading out the bons pool.
