  1. I guess he was fired for not adding to the roster and going for it at the deadline, we all know that their owner is desperate for a championship. Dombrowski appears to be a victim of his owner's desperation.
  2. I just put on MLB Network and I see the topic on Intentional Talk. Wow, what a shocker.
  3. If this loosing streak continues, I am jumping back on the tank bandwagon.
  4. So Christopher Nolan finished writing the script to his new movie and has been scouting locations in London, but he has been seen meeting with........................ Jake Gyllenhaal.
  5. Hopefully this change will mean that Hostetler will bring some new scouts into the system. But we can see finally see Rick Hahn's FO take form, with Jeremy Haber, Marco Paddy (Yeah, I'm aware that Kenny hired him.) and Hostetler.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:11 AM) Malick. Sorry, I was on my tablet
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) Why even keep him around? God forbid someone loses their job for the lack of success this franchise has had. Hostetler is pretty young at 37 and having a guy around that has had that position before and that has tons of experience in an advisory capacity is not a bad thing.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) A source of guidance on how to scout s***ty ballplayers? On how to find the next Gordon Beckham? Or is that Kenny's job? He is only there as a source of information, Hostetler is in complete control of his department and his people. That means he doesn't have to take Laumann's advice, so chill out
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:30 AM) the main philosophy is between college vs hs. kids. i think there has to be a happy medium between the 2. however the sox like college in the 1 round, b/c that person will be closest to the majors. i will admit high ceiling vs high floor, well, i guess i will need to really think out that difference in order to make any semblance of an informed answer. let me asked this of those who can answer. to me, i always assumed that the sox picked, esp in the 1 round, prospects who were easy to sign and can make the majors quickly, as oppose to players who were more talented. was that how any saw it??? I would say that if if were 2011 but the new CBA changed that and since the 2012 draft the Sox have been taking BPA, line you should no matter what.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) I don't have as much of a problem with them promoting Hostetler. My issue is that Laumann was rewarded for his sub-par performance with a promotion up, just like Kenny Williams. White Sox Baseball: Loyalty without Accountability Laumann didn't get a promotion. He was stripped of his job and the power that came with it, he's just there to be a source of guidance for Hostetler and nothing more.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:09 AM) There's only one problem with this...start drafting high schoolers in the first round and Sale/Abreu/Quintana/Eaton will all be long gone before they make it to the big leagues. Rare is the hs player like an A-Rod or Harper who doesn't need at least 2-3 years in the minors, if not 4-5. You always take the BPA no matter what, and he said that in the same interview.
  12. Just got back from a late screening of Southpaw and I really enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to seeing it and followed the production and it meant my hype. The camera work and cinematography was great and the way the fight scenes scenes were shot was like a mix of Terrence Malick and documentary style, lots of handheld and dare I say GoPro. Jake G(Not going even going to try) was great and I could see him getting some award buzz. But Rachel McAdams was good too but she does something so incredibly hot that I lost track of the plot for a bit. And according to Jake G. that was improvised completely by her without him knowing and you can totally see him break character for a second. I can't blame him, I would've shut down the set down and take a breather. Before I say something really dirty, let me stop but go see Southpaw.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) Fantastic Four is apparently not being screened for critics until the 24 hours before its release which almost certainly means its a piece of s***. Hopefully Fox gives up on the Fantastic Four and the characters revert back to Marvel. Apparently, the embargo has been lifted.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Adolfo is back! He had a problem with his hamstrings
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) ....but the question is, why the internal move now??? All of the major showcases and all star games for prep players who will be eligible for the 2016 draft are happening right now. And the Cape should be in play already. In other words, prep for 2016 draft is starting to take shape. So the timing if the announcement makes sense. If Laumann isn't going to be the guy going forward, why not announce the new guy as you start your draft prep.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) God forbid they'd go out of house to find a replacement... Teams rarely go outside the org to find a replacement. And it sounds like Hostetler has a different philosophy than Laumann. He said he's a high ceiling guy and is 'intrigued' by high school players. Whereas Laumann liked high floor guys and leaned more towards college guys.
  17. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) For what it's worth, I was tipped off about something along these lines a few months ago. The person I heard from said Rick started to listen more and more to Hostetler at the expense of Laumann. The person that I was in touch with felt Laumann was actually better at his job than Hostetler. We'll see how it work out. One thing is clear...over the last 15 years the Sox have had a number of people in charge of amateur scouting and minor league operations. In my opinion that's part of the reason the minor league system is in the shape its been in. Mark Hostetler did a lot of press regarding the draft.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) Saw Kingsmen last night. Pretty fun but you could tell that it was low-budget. I enjoyed the dark comedy/violence but my wife wasn't that interested. I'd say it's a solid rental - 3.5 stars out of 5. I wouldnt call a $80M movie low budget, especially for a basically original property. (They made the graphic novel to make the movie)
  19. How games do they have to win to get in... 37?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 02:00 AM) Saw the last two episodes of a certain HBO show today. f*** it, I can talk about one of them. The newest episode of True Detective was out of this world. I feel bad for the people who gave up because you're missing out. The episode was 70 minutes long and it may be the best 70mins of anything that I have seen all year. After watching I thought that it was the best episode of the series to date, and I would be put right up there with Breaking Bad's Ozymandias, which I consider to be one of the best episodes of TV ever made (in recent memory). My favorite character this season was Paul, who is played by Taylor Kitsch. When they introduced the 'closeted gay man' dynamic, I originally thought that was horribly cliche and a terrible stereotype but now, I don't have a problem with it because of how well it was done. I think that Paul's character is kind of a metaphor, that although America might be becoming more and more accepting of the LGBTQ community, there are still people who struggle who believe that their 'urges and nature' are natural due to how they were brought up or some exterior reason. A lot of people are telling others who are struggling with this issue, brush it off like 'its okay to be gay, just come out to everyone', while they may mean well what they're suggesting is nothing but an ignorant and extremely simplified solution to something that a lot of people struggle to accept. There's a moment near the end of the episode where Paul is confronted by some people from his past, who were able to find and blackmail him into meeting by threatening to out him. During the meeting, one of the guys tells Paul, "If you'd just been honest with yourself then none of this would be happening to you." Me and all the people, I watched that episode with all let out a collective gasp, it felt like being punched in the gut. So when Paul is running away from the people from his past, he isn't just running away from people carrying weapons, he is running from his sexuality. And even after being a few hours removed from the episode am I still bothered by the whole situation, but that just shows how good it was, especially from the writing and acting. As a HUGE fan of something called Star Wars, I hated how Mace Windu (Sam L Jackson) was killed in Ep. III, for such an awesome and bad ass character, he died like a punk and that is not a criticism of the acting but of the writing and it is my biggest gripe of the prequel trilogy (well, that and Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin). I thought that because he's a gay character that if he were to die, he'd die in an emasculating way, but Paul had his blaze of glory and had a warrior's death. I used to not think highly of Taylor Kitsch's abilities as an actor but he has really won me over and he's been a highlight of the season. Everything about this episode was great and it really raised the stakes for the finale but this aspect of the episode is what took it from being good and made it great.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) Who was the last successful fielder drafted by your Chicago White Sox? Would it be Beckham? Is that a success? So you would rather have no/less flexibility in the draft? Edit: Everyone knows that the Sox haven't had success drafting position players in the draft the past 10 To 12 years. That doesn't mean that the Sox should just avoid that as an avenue (aliteration*) to influx the system with talent and stop doing things that could set them up for success in the draft. Let me guess, you would love for the Sox to be able to trade all their picks for aging veterans.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) I can't see how not trading HURT the "Rebuilding". It didn't help it right now, but it certainly didn't hurt it. Exactly and the money attached to that comp pick is going to give Rick and co. some flexibility in the draft.
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 08:53 AM) Perez might have leap-frogged over Alfaro, who, for some reason is on the Sox Top 30 list. He should be on the top 30 list. He's 17 years old playing in the AZL, so calm down. The fact that the Sox were willing to send him to the AZL one year after signing him out of Columbia, shows how high they are on him. The same goes for Amado Nunez who the Sox are excited about.
