I think this deadline proves that Hahn is running the show, if Kenny was in charge a move would have been made or better or worst and Kenny would not aknowledge the team's long term future.

Carlos Perez Getting Some Love From Ben Badler
Boopa1219 replied to Boopa1219's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) Hopefully he will be THE Carlos Perez that people think of in the big leagues 10 years from now. He's been my sleeper guy for most of the season now. He could be an above average to good catcher defensively, and his ability to put the bat on the ball is remarkable, only 12 K's in almost 240 PA's dating back to last year. Looking forward to seeing him in Great Fall next year. I hope he goes to the AZL, even if its for a couple weeks. I would hate to see him rushed. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) Anything we give up for a rental when our backs are against the wall, is extremely risky. Belton Bill Melton was on yesterday and he had some interesting points (later on he kind of went back on them though, but I'll ignore that for the purpose of this post). Bottom line, he said that he hopes Kenny and Rick execute on whatever they planned to do prior to the streak happening. If they thought they had the goods to win, then do it, if not, then do that, but you shouldn't necessarily let 1.5 weeks of play impact your decisions for the rest of the season. I am actually giving Bill Melton more credit cause he didn't quite say it like that, but it was his point. It is also why I believe it is imperative for the club, if it is going to buy, to buy someone who will be here for the long haul (unless the rental is so cheap it is absurd not to do it, such as Beck for Cespedes or something like that). We should be taking a quasi Ranger mentality (or almost like a 2004 mentality when we acquired Contreras) and while the move might help us contend this year, the goal is for this to make us a better team in 2016 & 2017. With that in mind, when it comes to Shark, Hahn and Kenny have a ton of leverage right now. Dodgers still need that upgrade (and the list of pitchers like Shark is small and some rivals, including the Giants have upgraded). Angels have to also be interested in another pitcher (especially given the moves the Astros just made) and I presume the Yanks would be listening as well. I'm not saying I'm ready to sell as I want to buy and have said I want to buy (but potentially do a controlled sell as well). Given where the market is, if the Sox get the right offer, I don't blame them for selling Shark while still buying a bat elsewhere. I also am okay with them buying a bat and going for this thing, but please, please, do not buy a rental or make a bunch of moves ignoring our future. Totally agree

Carlos Perez Getting Some Love From Ben Badler

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Is he in DSL or Arizona? The DSL club. -
Michael (Dallas): Hey Ben, Thanks as always for the chat. Can you give some under the radar Catching prospects who you think can make it to the bigs and stick at C. Thanks Ben Badler: These are always tricky questions because I’m never sure how far under the radar to go. I’ll go way deep under where most people are looking and say Carlos Perez with the White Sox. He’s the younger brother of Angels catcher Carlos Perez (his oldest brother is also a former Cubs catcher named Carlos Perez), but the White Sox have the most advanced brother at his age (18). Nice swing, good approach, uses the whole field, projects to stick behind the plate and has a chance to hit for more power than his big league brother.

I hope they stand pat.

The Sox shouldn't buy even if they get into the race, they can't afford to deal from the farm.
-
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) If the White Sox are uncertain of their direction, and that usually leads into a conversation about trading Jeff S, but what would they be looking for if they decide to make a run at a wildcard? Does playing for a 1 game playoff temper the aggressiveness? It should, unless your getting an asset with multi year control but they aren't in a position to damper the farm regardless.

Trainwreck was pretty good.

I really wanted Castro coming back to the Sox in a Shark deal
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Trust me, Sox will be shipping him to Toronto, so those of you who study it, what would be a proper return from the Jays? What would be the least that would satisfy you? Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Nick Wells.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:13 AM) I disagree on this. Hoffman and Sanchez could definitely be moved. Hoffman has been far from the guy he was in Cape Cod League. Fastball is pretty much straight on some days. I am not saying he can't recapture his stuff, but both him and Sanchez have arrows pointing down and could be moved. I am not concerned about Hoffman, guys from various sites are saying that he's pitching conservatively and that the Jays have restrictions on him and that the further away from the TJ surgery (Unrelated Side Note: My mom is going to her elbow cleaned out after having it twice in a few weeks) the more restrictions will be removed. I'm still high on Hoffman.

The Spoils Before Dying is pretty good.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:14 AM) I don't see these teenagers fitting the type of players they will be targeting. I don't either, I'm just trying to start discussion. Edit: But wouldn't be more cost effective to trade for those guys now rather in a couple years When they're closer to the majors?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:05 AM) You're really all in on the Latin signings aren't you? You should see my Latin temper, kidding I'm African American. But the Yankees more intriguing prospects are J2 guys, thanks to a period of bad drafting. If the Sox are looking for potential high upside bats, they need to give the Yankees a serious look.
-
The Yankees would be s good trade partner, since they do have some high upside position players but they're further down the line in their development. How about this: Shark to the Yankees for Dermis Garcia (17yo 3B), Miguel Flames (17yo C) and Jorge Mateo (MIF 19yo). The center in this deal would Dermis Garcia, who was the Yankees top July 2nd signing in terms of price last year at $3M and he profiles as a guy who can hit 30 homers a year and he has elite bat speed. He was signed as a shortstop but he was listed at 6'3 and 200lbs and as he fills out expect his long term home to be on the corners, Kiley McDaniel mentions third, first and left being possibilities. He did put on some extra weight, which is to be expected for a LA prospect coming to America but expect that calm down as he enters a major league training program. His swing reminds me of Alex Rodriguez and the amount of potential he has is unreal, especially with the bat.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) Gotta fall into the other camp. I thought the shootout was pedestrian, and badly forced into the episode to add some action to an otherwise dull and uneventful season. It's not dull, more has happened in the first 4 episodes of season 2 than all of season 1. And the psychosphere is larger this time around. While season 1 was lighter and easier to grasp, season 2 is full of allegories, clues, suspects, etc while being very dark. Nic Pizzalatto defnitely put a lot into the first few episodes of the second season and is really taking his time to tell this story and based on the first 5 episodes there is going to be a serious pay off. Watch every episode of the season again and after each episode read these or just read them, this season is anything but dull. http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/30/8869875/t...cters-plot-help http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/7/8901145/tr...iew-walkthrough http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/15/8962955/t...t-mexican-drugs http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/22/9011429/t...plot-help-recap

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:10 AM) Still remain in the #9 slot. 1.5 GB of Oakland for 8th pick. 10.5 GB of Phillies for 1st pick. Hoping for a top 5 pick. -

I would love the Sox main focus over the course of the next three years (since they always talk about a the year window) to be infrastructure as they just worry about building up the organization's talent base through the minors. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Supposedly, TD is going to have an orgy scene, possibly with Ani, in one of the upcoming episodes. Good enough for me. Yes, they filmed a massive orgy sequence in LA and hired pornstars as extras, ironically they'll won't be the ones indulging in all the fun sex stuff.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Please elaborate. The tracking shot from the first season was incredible, one of the best action sequences in TV history. The shootout in last week's episode was entertaining but nothing special. I guess I don't get the comparison. The shootout at episode 4 was amazing, one of things that made it better than the long shot from the first season was that I didn't know who was going to survive, we all knew that Rust was going to make it out alive, we just didn't know how. In the shootout, I really feared for all the characters. Why I really like it? The shootout was a perfect mix of grit and glamour, while being very grotesque. Not because of the gore that was in the scene (Dixon gets his head blown off and a civilian is shot in the head at point blank range) but because of how realistic it was. This want just mindless action either as there was a ton of character in this scene, this is especially true for Paul, who steals the scene. Throughout the previous three episodes we have been hearing about his military past and that payed off here in a big way as he single handedly wins the gunfight. Remember the rain of gunfire that the cops encountered when they came onto the scene, Paul gets them out of it. Remember the scene where Paul is in Ray's car and he is talking about not knowing who he is and not knowing where he belongs, in the shootout he was right in his element. Another thing that made it very realistic was the added presence of the civilian protesters and the pimp at the end. Imagine a shooutout breaking out in the middle of the Baltimore Protest? Imagine all the innocent people being shot by misfire and stay bullets. You see that in True Detective. I also like how the pimp at the end realized his impending doom and was like f*** IT, so he kills the hostage prompting Ray and Paul to kill him. It was really well shot as it was easy to follow while going back and forth between the three characters' perspectives, while making you feel like you were right in the middle of the action. The way it was edited allowed for natural intensity and it didn't rely on a filmmaking trick (long shot) to create tension. The best shootout since Heat.

Would love to see Hayward in a sox jersey next year, God knows the team needs the defensem
