White Sox @ Rangers - 6/4/15 - 7:05 CDT - CSN
Boopa1219 replied to lasttriptotulsa's topic in 2015 Season in Review
Great game by both sides. Rodon was fantastic for the second start in a row. Dan Jennings needs to work on his command, he could be a lock down lefty out of the pen but he needs to work on things -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) so you are going to tear apart the mlb team to go and acquire these holes the system needs. i am still making the point this team, still have to rebound. we, as fans do not know when or if they will rebound. next point, prospects, any prospects still have odds on whether they will make it or not. second, there is a time line that needs to be considered, next yr. so how long would you wait to address these holes via the minor league system, or via the int'l route? the last point, every one says or have said, the sox do not have the financial horses to address these holes via fa, so how will you fix these holes. I'm not tearing down the ML team, Im trading where I have a surplus of talent, which for the Sox is their starting rotation. Like I said I wouldn't trade Sale and Rodon (and Abreu), that's leaves Danks, Shark and Q. Each of those three guys could give you something back and help make your team by bring in talent to the system and filing some of those holes.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) whether b/c of necessities or b/c they are sellers or buyers at the deadline. they, the sox org needs to address the holes that is becoming a major concern. i look at the FA rt and i don't see the help there. i keep staring at the milb for the sox prospects and i really don't see it. the sox have no choice but it may need to trade for them. the only assets the sox may have for this possible trade is using the farm. You're going to deal from the farm, which you alluded to as being a weakness and make it weaker by dealing whatever valuable prospects that you have? That doesn't make too much sense to me, the Sox should be holding on to all their prospects while they build up the farm through the draft and INTL FA as they get to a point where the system is overflowing with prospects. The Sox have guys right now on the ML roster who could net them some very solid returns at the deadline. While nobody is untouchable, if I am Rick Hahn the only players that I am holding on to are Sale, Abreu and Rodon, everyone else is to be had at the right deal.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Hawk & Rowand was great. Steven Stone needs to bow out to Rowand's greatness. I didnt think that Rowand was that good, he just agreed with everything that Hawk said. -

I actually have been enjoying listening to Swirsky these past few games, I think that he is doing a solid job. I know that he is not the best baseball mind and may not be able to tell the difference between a good slider and a bad slider, but he has brought some new flavor to the broadcast and I like that he is REALLY leaning on Stone. -
If the White Sox do make any moves at the deadline, assuming they are sellers, I would like to see the Sox acquire young ML ready players and not established veterans. I would like for the team to avoid dipping into the farm in any deal.

Cohesiveness between development/coaching and scouting

What book? -
I would like to see either Avi or Abreu bat second.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 31, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) I know you're just saying you'd like that but I think we can safely limit the Sox to college pitchers. Stephenson's swing is vicious though. Unfortunately, it seems like Harris is their backup plan which sucks for me. Not to throw out a lazy, convenient comparison but he's more of a Broadway/McCulloch type than someone we could get really excited about. Both Kiley McDaniel have alluded to Harris being the back up if Jay/Fulmer (probably were't considering Tate sliding which I still see as remote) there at #8. Law also amped up the Sox-Jay connection last week. Even insinuated that Colorado could craft their offer to Jay around the Sox slot value plus a kicker. This is very real scenario. All depends on what Texas is doing in my mind. They've been hush-hush and could go with any of Bregman/Cameron/Tate. Nothing is ever set in the draft but it seems like your first three picks, with Swanson/Rodgers being interchangeable, are close to consensus at this point. Everyone said the Sox were going to draft a college am in 2012 and they didn't. Im not thattt high on Harris, and if Jay is off the board at 8, i dont think there's another college arm worth taking there.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) I'm pretty sure the Sox won't be giving up a 2016 1st rounder to sign a QO Free Agent. Scratch big impact bat with QO attached off of the list. Nor should they. They have guys that they trade on the active roster right now and get solid returns and still be in the playoff mix in 2016

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ May 30, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Doe anyone know what happened to Luis Castillo, the 3B that Marco Paddy signed out of the DR? Didn't he receive a fairly substantial signing bonus (by White Sox standards)? I'm going to assume that whole thing fell through... I think about this alot, I was really excited when the team signed him.

The DSL started today

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 30, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Would you do those deals if you were the Blue Jays or the Astros If I'm the Blue Jays and Alex Anthopoulos, yes because a starting pitcher of Shark's caliber could make my team the favorite to win the division. Plus the farm in Toronto is really deep, especially on arms. If I'm the Astros, I would stand pat but I've read in a few places that they're looking to add pitching.
-
If the Sox are out of it and are looking to sell, some teams that I think would be good trade partners for the Sox would be the Astros and the Blue Jays, who both want starting pitching. Blue Jays get Shark and cash, White Sox get Roberto Osuna and Aaron Sanchez (TBJ front office might see him as a reliever long term). Astros get Shark/White Sox get McCullers, INTL bonus slots and a comp pick. And if I am Rick Hahn I am watching the Marlins very closely, there rumblings about a fire sale coming in the not too distant future.
-
I would also be ecstatic if the Sox drafted Tyler Stephenson. I would be really tempted to move him from behind the plate and maybe try him at third or in the outfield, so he can just focus on developing his bat. The bat speed that he posses is special.

I think that if there White Sox are ever going to go all in on the international market this is the year to do it. I like the players that I they have been attached to so far, especially Franklin Reyes, who's power tool is a legit 70 right now but they should go all in on Martinez. I trust MLB's evaluations and they have all five of his tools at 60+. Martinez could be a huge addition to the future of the organization and would give the team a nice building block going forward. I remember watching the Braves play everyday on TBS growing up and seeing Andruw Jones make at least two defining plays that would help the Braves win. This has to be the team's top priority in the international market. The Jorge Soler and Yoan Moncada deals would serve as good references for the team, Alvarez is my favorite player on the market and I would love for the Sox to sign him but his fate might already be sealed as he has been connected to the Dodgers for a few months now but I hope Rich Hahn and Marco Paddy do their best to pry him away. I am writing something about the White Sox, July 2nd plans and since more info has come out about Martinez, I will write a quick blurb about him.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) Another awful AB by Shuck. He has no business being on this roster. Horrible decision by Ventura there, should have been Beckham. No need to overreact, Shuck has performed for the team in his limited role, he just had a bad at bat. -

That is why you never swing at the first pitch! -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 20, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) I'd take on Singletons salary and ask for McCullers and Correa too if Shark were to be traded. I don't think the Astros's are that stupid to part ways with Correa, but if Rick Hahn didn't at least inquire about him then he wouldn't be doing his job. That being said, if the Astros proposed Shark for Correa straight up, I would say yes immediately. I think Correa has been the best prospect in the game since 2013, I would take him over Bryant and Buxton in a heartbeat but I don't think that Astros are going to part with him anytime soon. I wouldn't take on the Singelton contract unless I got back a really nice return. I would a nice return for the Sox would be McCullers, a comp pick and an international bonus allotment

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) How many teams are ahead of them? How far from Wild Card? Two teams ahead and in the mix for the WC

If the Sox are .500 at the break and 5 games out of first place in the division, what do you do at the deadline?
-
Jesse Hahn would be nice to have as a number #5. Plus he's a ground ball pitcher and that profiles well in the cell.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 19, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Sonny Gray. A rotation of Sale, Samardzija, Quintana, Gray and Rodon with Danks as the long man would have me giddy. I'd trade Danish, Montas, Hawkins and Micah or Sanchez for him. I wouldn't throw the farm away for one player.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) If Ichiro could be had for a nothing piece I'd like him from Miami. Yes, he's better than Shuck. I wanted the Sox to sign him in the offseason.
