  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) I agree but I would prefer if the Sox did what they did last year and spread their money around and sign a group of solid prospects and not just 1 player, like the Brewers and Rays did last year. Maybe the Sox can make a deal(s) for more INTL cap space. Since they don't have the draft picks, they need a big year in LA. I will add this, since Marco Paddy came aboard in 2011 the White Sox INTL/LA Operation has been among the best in MLB. The Sox have singed some intriguing, quality players. And we're only starting to see some of those guys make their way stateside.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Vlad Jr would be a great get. I agree but I would prefer if the Sox did what they did last year and spread their money around and sign a group of solid prospects and not just 1 player, like the Brewers and Rays did last year. 3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) That tweet is getting my hopes up now. I really want VGJR now. How does he project? Since Vlad is the #1 overall prospect in this year's July 2 period, so he'll comment a high bonus probably close to $3,000,000, maybe even $3,500,000. As a player he as has huge power potential and projects to be a huge run producer who can anchor the middle of our order. He might be on the 'built side of things' as he is 6'2 and 220lbs, but I think that he could slim down as he isn't done growing. He probably plays RF or 1B in the pros and I would rate his power tool as a legit 80.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) No, he'll keep 26. If he were going to change, Crain would have gone back to 26. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/roste...an.jsp?c_id=cws http://mlb.mlb.com/team/roster_nri.jsp?c_id=cws I find it funny that changing a uniform number is listed in the official transactions. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/trans...amp;team_id=145 Too bad Quintana got stuck with 62 when he did. Terrible number. Didn't he wear 24 in the minors to honor Miggy?
  5. Really wish the Sox drafted Giolito over Hawkins in 2012, I know that Venturav wanted him after coaching him in high school.
  6. I expect Avi will change to number 24 (Thank God).
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) It is in MLB's and the commissioner's best interest to get the international draft started. I think our team has been operating within the constraints of what is deemed acceptable by the commissioner for some time and it has only been a detriment to the team. I sure hope the MLB levels the playing field internationally so JR can take the leash off of his executives who would prefer not to play ball on his behalf. I am opposed to an international draft but I do want stricter rules when it comes to spending money and harsher penalties when those rules are broken. It shouldn't be allowed that a team can just have the INTL that the Yankees did.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) the sox went many, many yrs in avoiding a HS'er in the first round. they had great teams in the 90's and a WS in 2005. But look how bad their farm system was during that period.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) depending on who is selected in the top 7 and or who will come on strong, a pitcher of extremely good quality may be there. there is 2.5 pitchers who i would select. all college pitchers. now there are 2 college positional players who might be available that i really like. with the 50-50 success the sox had with anderson and hawkins, i really doubt they will go that rt this yr or for the next several yrs. getting a player who may challenge for a position in 2016 season would be extremely enticing. but that is my opinion. I don't think the Sox are going to avoid HS position players just because of the mixed results with Hawkins and Anderson, That's not a smart way to go about drafting players. That's like saying, just because Adam Dunn didn't work out, then the Soz shouldn't sign any LH power hitters. If any team is serious about building a contender then they have to draft the best player available no matter what.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) man, this is going to be a rough prediction, sox picking #8 and then when is there next pick??? assuming if Jeff S doesn't sign, they will get an additional 1 rounder outside the top 10+. Im just focusing on the first round pick, the health/state of the franchise and what their strategy might be.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Doing a little research on potential draft picks. I've always been a Carson Fulmer fan, but his size does scare me a little bit. Phil Bickford is another guy that's growing on me that's now at community college. He's 0-1 3.48 ERA, 10.2 IP, 2 BBs, and 18 Ks so far this season. As far as hitters, I don't know which I would prefer, a college bat, or HS bat. If it's a college bat, Swanson and Happ top that list. Although, it sounds like Happ would move to the OF and that his best position could be left field. Swanson seams destined for 2B. HS bats, I like Daz Cameron who already has a pretty good frame that will only grow into. Another HS bat I like is Nick Plummer. He might have the most raw power and could be a great average hitter. Outside the 1st round, there is one player I hope for. I'm a huge Illinois fan, so I would love to see the Sox nab LHP Kevin Duchene. The kid has dominated his first 2 seasons although he does not strike out a ton of guys. Decent frame at 6'2 210. Guys I like for the Sox in the first round: Michael Muetella, who I think will not be drafted in the top 5 of the draft. Kyle Cody, the dude throws really, really hard and he has an ideal frame at 6'7 240lbs. Ashe Russell, a high school Impact arm, the guy hits 95 consistently and has a nasty slider. It would smart to go under slot and over spend in the later rounds.
  12. I did some write ups on players in the upcoming draft in Reddit, just search for all the Midwest reports and you'll find them. I am also writing a report on the White Sox draft. Check them out.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Who do they Sox have one of the lowest INT payrolls in the league? And how do the Yankees have over 8 mil to spend? Robertson and Cabrera that's why.

  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) I am pretty stunned they couldn't find someone to give them garbage for him. I was hoping that they could get a comp pick for him.

  17. That's a better prospect than I thought they were going to get. He's still young and the Sox can mold him into a solid player.
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Nice guy, though. In the Reinsdorf Ring of Loyalty as Flavum so eloquently put it. Will be tough to move out, but moving him at least completely away from personnel would be nice. He's a good guy do deal with the media but I do not want him to have anything to do with making baseball decisions. I think that the Sox should promote Jeremey Haber, who is Hahn's right hand man and assistant to Ast. GM and Bell should be a special assistant like Thome.
  19. I speak for all White Sox fans when I say that, I want Bell out of the FO.
  20. Good writeup guys, I enjoy reading your stuff
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) Nationals at both the major and minor league level.... You're right, I forgot about them. I would put them first and the Sox second, but I think the Sox might have more depth in the minors than Washington.
  22. I love this move. Like a lot of people I was disappointed by the lack of stolen bases last year, it seems like the Sox are looking to start being a team that manufactures runs as opposed to focusing solely on the home run. They also starting to focus more on contact as opposed to power. The team figures to be more exciting on the base paths. I really like this move by the Sox.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) If he's less bulky, he's bound to be better in the field overall. Good news. I heard that he lost some weight and got into better shape which is great news for the Sox. However with that being said, I do not think that Avi's long term future is in the OF. I think that he should be playing first base, I know that the Sox signed LaRoche but once his contract expires after the 2016 season, I would like to see Avi take over first.
  24. For Jeff Hoffman and another prospect, I would absolutely let Kenny walk. Hoffman would be a huge addition to the farm and you could argue that he has a higher ceiling than Rodon. Also bringing Hoffman into the fold would give the Sox the best collection of pitching in all of baseball (Majors + Minors).
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Disappointed? Really? After this winter, that is what you got? Sounds like the kid who got the five big things he asked for at Christmas who is crying that they didn't get #6 on their list. Hahn and the White Sox knocked it out of the park this winter. Between last year and this year they have moved the rebuild up at least one year, if not two. Even if they don't win this year, they have set themselves up with a really nice window to be contenders, and they didn't hurt the future to do it. This off-season has been beyond my wildest dreams, and I couldn't be more happy about it. Completely agree with this, how can you be disappointed? I don't understand that.
