POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017
Boopa1219 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2017 Season in Review
Made a deal with the devil. Going to work at 3am Monday, I work till 11. So me and my family can attend the game. Our first opening day. -
Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) It's not really a matter of power stroke. Anderson needs to walk more before he leads off. Why can't he work on that while batting leadoff? -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Anderson is a terrible idea. I wouldn't mess with his approach until he's completely comfortable at this level. He's never going to be patient. It's not him. If you're rebuilding, why not throw him there and let him develop in that spot? It's not like the team is competing for anything. What do they have to lose? -
I think it would be pretty cool to track who from the forum wins SoxMath going forward with what prize they picked. I won #SoxMath in August and won a 2005 decorated baseball. Before it counts, as anyone else here won before?

I don't get the fascination with Anderson's power stroke, that's not what's going to make or break him as a player. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) I want him to feel free to develop his power stroke and I worry at leadoff he'll feel pressure to just make any contact. I'd rather Anderson focus on contact and getting on base than developing his power swing. -
69-93. Sale and Eaton are gone. Avi will be playing in the field. Impending trades. I think the Padres have the #1 pick wrapped up but the Sox should get a top 6 pick.

I think Anderson should bat leadoff every single game and regardless of how he's doing, he should stay there the entire season. The Cubs did a similar thing with Rizzo when he came up with them, they batted him third everyday regardless of his performance. -
Ghost in the Shell is really, really good. Some of the best CGI I've ever seen and the cinematography is out of this world. Reminded me of Wes Anderson with all the symmetry going on. Hopefully it catches on for a sequel, everyone should go see it

When I played my modeled my swing and in the box mannerisms off of Podsednik, so needless to say that I was always hurt and didn't hit for much power but he's one of my favorite players ever. Awesome

I think the TV Show is set on Earth too

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Thanks for posting. Caraballo weighing 190lbs is a joke. Dude is a big oaf and looks like he needs to cut a good amount of weight. Just watching his PFP's you can tell he's a long way from good shape. He didn't look big in any of the pictures/video that I've seen and those were from instructs.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) I'm looking forward to the IT movie but I'm still waiting for the official Dark Tower trailer. All we've gotten so far is an unfinished leaked one, people talking about the one they saw at CinemaCon and a poster. Usually what is shown at CinemaCon is never released online initially if ever. And according to Deluxe, Sony hasn't made the trailer available to anyone yet. My guess is with F8

Does anyone here pay for Podcast? The site that host How Did This Get Made moved all the most popular episodes behind a paywall and I am debating myself on whether or not if I should pay for them?

Is anyone excited for the Inhumans show? BlackBolt is one of my favorite characters ever and I was really excited to see him and the royal family brought to the big screen. I think making Inhumans a TV Show is a huge mistake.

While the Sox are rebuilding does anyone think that they should try to convert Burdi as a starter? I think that they should bring him up as a reliever (I think he will be up a lot sooner rather than later), let him get his feet wet and try to convert him next offseason as you build up his innings. You know that you have a guy who could be an elite reliever if he fails.

I'm curious about this guy from Puerto Rico. And I wonder if Pratto is athletic enough to move to the OF

I can't load BBallRef on my phone but I'm sure I went to his last game at Turner Field.

As a 4* member of the resistance, those people make me sick too. If you're not going to have intelligent conversation with someone, how can you expect something positive to happen. But if I were a white man, I wouldn't tell a POC or a woman that they're going to need me to get some traction in their movement, that sounds so 'privileged'. You don't need white men to do anything. Actually this whole post sounds that way, if that really grinds your gears then thank goodness you're not a minority. If I were you I would remain calm, state where you're coming from and acknowledge your privileges. If they're still not willing to have a dialogue, leave and go on to the next person. Also don't let those bad experiences define your expectations for everyone else.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) That scares me just a little bit more. He seems really immature. He needs a father figure to bring him along for sure. 225 twinkees in a week? Can't get him out of bed for practice? Trying to order 10 custom cars at once? Yikes. In regards to the material things, remember that this a guy from a poverty stricken part of the world. He found himself with more money than he could ever imagine.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Wtf? Ok. Did Michael Bay body shame anyone on transformers set? I didn't hear about anything in Detroit but... Emma Watson said this after Beyonce dropped the video for Flawless: 'As I was watching [the videos] I felt very conflicted, I felt her message felt very conflicted in the sense that on the one hand she is putting herself in a category of a feminist, but then the camera, it felt very male, such a male voyeuristic experience of her... Beyoncé using her sexuality as empowerment isn't feminism!' She basically said Beyonce's feminism is for male consumption and now Emma Watson is doing half naked photo shoots. She also said feminism isn't a stick that should be used to beat other women, just after using feminism to beat down a woman of color. She's a huge hypocrite and feminism to her is only done correctly when it's done by white women. I put her alongside Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift, which is somewhere in the trash. After she said that, I haven't been able to watch her in anything as I've been having a hard time separating the art from the artist.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) Beauty and the Beast is an exact replica of the 1992 animation with essentially thirty minutes of added scenes, songs and characters. Definitely worth taking the kids too because of the cinematography, but the original cartoon is still my preference...or the 1940's version. Emma Watson, just doesn't quite fit in that role...enjoyed seeing Kevin Kline, and the whole Luke Evans/Josh Gad subplot though. Here in China, they cut the most controversial scene between them for it apparently. Ever since Emma Watson outed herself as a white feminist, I can't stand her at all. I will see The Circle though only because of John Boyega, Karen Gillian and Tom Hanks

Huge Power Rangers fan. I collect the toys even today. Just got out of the movie and I was so pleased that it was an actually competent movie. All the Rangers were great, Bill Hader was my favorite character in it. I think that its really cool that the Rangers are so diverse. They're all different races, sexualities and one of them is on the spectrum. They can only defeat the bad guy by learning empathy and embracing their differences. Trump would love it. I felt they could've done more with Elizabeth Banks, the potential was there.

Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down
Boopa1219 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) Yoan and Lopez really showed out this spring. I'm excited to see them in early summer. According to beat writers, he showed a commitment to a routine and approach despite the bad start. That's a very encouraging sign, usually when players struggle they start to tinker and end up making things worse. The fact he did that bodes well for his development going forward
