I really dislike the Dodgers prospects for the Sox, a third team would have to get involved
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Lawrie to Angels for mid-level prospect is my guess They don't have any mid level prospects or prospects in general for that matter. If you're a rebuilding team, why are you talking to the Angels.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) The fact that Merkin of all people is predicting a rebuild speaks volumes. Yep, I heard the other tweets but when I read his, I was like DAMN

I am pretty interested to see the top 30 list. I want to see who made the biggest jumps and how many J2 guys are on that list.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) Just wonering, why is Kopech a must. He has already been suspended 50 day for taking an illegal substance and fractured his hand in a fight in the dugout w a teammate. He can throw a 100mph+ as a starter. His fastball ranges from 94-101mph, his slider is in the high 80s and a low 90s changeup.

If I were Hahn I would try to get another team involved in talks for Q and Sale for a three team deal, that's the only way I see them getting the king's ransom they deserve.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Sure wish you guys were around to talk ghostbusters when I wrote my incredible critique. I thought that was one of the better summer movies, which says a lot about this past summer movie season. Some of it did feel awkward to watch at times, like that dance sequence. I think the movie should've been a sequel to Ghostbusters 2 with the original surviving cast back in their roles, that would've given the film a lot of good will.

The domino that could catapult the white sox into a fire sale

Sherman is my favorite baseball writer attached to a newspaper. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) 13th overall pick. I hate that this team hasn't been able to evaluate talent. That was before Hahn and pre-Hostletler/Paddy. A lot has changed in the org. Give credit where credit is due.

What I loved about that episode of Westworld is that it's the first episode where the writer's aren't catering to the view anymore. They're not explaining how every little thing works or how did certain host end up in certain places. Very little exposition throughout the episode. I really want to know about MIB's life in the outside world, all we know is that he is a philanthropist that runs a very successful foundation and has saved tons of lives but nothing more. I also think that is a great avatar for the show. Here is this man, who in the real world (based on what info we have) is a good person as he saves lives and runs a charitable foundation but when he comes to WestWorld he (in his blackhat) indulges into his most sinister desires.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 29, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Cocaine was big in the 80s and early 90s. It seems to be making a comeback. Non crack that is. Cocaine never left, instead of the projects you can find it in high-rises and the suburbs. Not all of my friends who use have smoked pot but they've all done coke (and heroin).
-
Is it wrong of me not to feel anything for Jose Fernandez. And I'm not saying this because of the news regarding the cocaine, I've felt this way ever since I heard the news about his boating accident. You should know that (drunk or sober) you shouldn't be on a boat in the middle of the night, especially after a night of partying. Its extremely idiotic, especially going as fast as he was said to be going. If it wasn't for him, two other people would still be alive right now. I feel bad for his family, especially his girlfriend and child. I feel bad for his friends that were on the boat with them and their families. And I feel bad for the Marlins, who as I think should totally blow it up and start from scratch. I feel nothing for Jose Fernandez. What a waste of talent.

James Shields officially not opting out
Boopa1219 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) It fascinates me that the Cubs can spend $184 million on a bum like Heyward and not miss a beat while the Sox only owe Shields approximately 1/7th of that and are struggling big time with payroll. Well the two teams have two different budgets, the Cubs have a budget on par with the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox and Cardinals. The Sox have a mid tier budget. -
Now that he's dropped the sequel, I wouldn't be shocked if Tim Miller sues Fox for some back pay on Deadpool, since he did a lot work on the film during post for free.
-
I liked that the Sox got Shields and even after how bad he was I like that the was aggressive to get him but I trade for one reason... the surrendering of Tatis Jr. I think that if you're taking on an older player, that's on a massive contract and someone who's team owner burned in the media, that you shouldn't have to give up anything of value to get said player. Tatis Jr got some high marks from his first instructs last year too and I think Jesse Sanchez had some nice things to say about him too during that J2 cycle. Hopefully the Sox scream murder and they're able to get Tatis back from the Padres.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Well if it were like the Sony deal, each studio finances their films (so Sony would finance the Spider-Man films, Fox the X-Men, FF and Deadpool, Marvel the rest) and retains all profits. I didn't know the specifics of the deal, I just looked it up. 'Marvel Studios won’t pay Sony Pictures for the rights to put Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” the “Avengers” franchise or its other superhero films, as part of its new partnership with the studio, according to sources with knowledge of the deal. At the same time, Marvel won’t receive a cut of the box office for any of Sony’s films that feature Spider-Man. Sony won’t receive a percentage of the revenue Disney makes from Marvel’s films that have Spider-Man, either.' I was going to say that if the studio are going to put in equal money, you could have another Interstellar situation. On that film, WB and Paramount went into together and each came up with $40M profit, while Chris Nolan walked away with more money than the studios did ($120M to be exact). This Spider Man deal seems to be in the best interest of both studios.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) The L.A. Clippers were a joke for their entire existence until a few years ago. Fans will pay attention to a winning team, including ceasing to pay attention to one of the all-time great franchises (Lakers). People stopped paying attention to the Lakers not because of the rise of the Clippers but because the Lakers were/are turrible.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) But three studios partnering for a franchise that's heavily interwoven? Yup. And the only reason they didn't snuff them out is because they're the f***ing X-Men. You don't get rid of that cash cow entirely. I don't know about three studios but I know that Legendary (which is now apart of Universal) and Warner Bros are teaming up to make a Kajiu universe, with Godzilla and Kong. And when I think about it, three studios may not want to partner on a movie because of the diluted returns.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) They did suffocate the X men, and only recently have they started the ResurreXion storyline, which is why many believe that they are trying to make this MCU happen. Another hint is that they took Inhumans off their schedule and basically put a "TBD" label on it. Inhumans isn't off the table it just doesn't have a release date because of Spider-Man and Disney gave another film its spot. I think that news and traction on Inhumans will pick back up the closer we get to Infinity Wars and certainly Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I personally think that they're waiting to see what the finished storyline for Avengers 3 and 4 are going to be before they dive back into Inhumans. I haven't been keeping up with Marvel's comics for a while, so I will check out this storyline. It's the first XMen book in how long?
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 02:54 AM) Hell, partnering with them Sony style even. Which - three major studios partnering on a film series would be crazy. Major studios partnering up isn't rare, it happens pretty regularly. I think Fox should partner with Marvel/Disney and reboot the X Men (and Fantastic Four) films in the MCU with its younger cast from Apocalypse but that would probably take a lot of time to realize because you have to figure out where mutants fit in the overall MCU and how it affects the Inhumans storyline, which I think will be the next phase of films. I'm pretty surprised that Marvel/Disney hasn't suffocated X-Men like they did Fantastic Four, in regards to how they stopped making merchandise and printing comics. Marvel/Disney even went so far to remove FF characters from new editions all previously printed pictures of the Marvel Universe. And I'm not sure why Fox wants to hold on to their Marvel properties for, because they only make money from the BO, everything else goes to Marvel/Disney.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Let me speak for the rest of the Films thread when I say that we're pretty shocked you'd go against the grain on something. I like Deadpool but after repeat viewings its not as good as I thought it was after I first saw it. Still a good movie. *No one else gets migraines from Suicide Squad's terrible use of soundtrack?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) There's been a dearth of decent movies the last two months. Sully, Magnificent Seven, Deepwater Horizon and this weekend's Jack Reacher are some of the few I can even recall. Deadpool is simply much more entertaining. I don't think many will care to watch SS again...unless they are fanboys and girls of Margot Robbie. I watched Deadpool again recently and wasn't entertained but I appreciate the fact that I don't get a splitting migraine when I watch it

QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) I went into the third episode knowing about the theory that William is Ed Harris's character from 30 years earlier but I'm not sure if that works for me. I enjoyed the 3rd episode more than the 2nd, but it's still all a bit confusing to really get into. There are definitely a lot of layers at play, things to follow and references to understand.
