  1. Saw Banks & Steelz (Paul Banks from Interpol and the RZA from the WU) last night at Lincoln Hall, pretty great show. I shared a bottle with RZA too. I highly suggest you check out their album Anything But Words. Giant, Ana Electronica and Love and War are standouts from the album.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 08:47 AM) If they are truly rebuilding, there is no reason to keep him. Yes there is, you keep him and hope that he keeps pitching like so that you can flip him at the deadline (if there are no plans to trade him during the offseason).
  3. Is anyone else disappointed by Tim Anderson's stolen base total? If you were to average out his SB total to a 162 game season, he would have 15 SBs. For someone with 70+ speed, that is way too low in my opinion. I think Anderson should be raking up 30+ bags a year automatically. Also for someone who doesn't walk a lot, I think he needs to maximize the situation whenever he's on base. I know that this is his rookie season but I was expecting more from him on the basepaths. Overreaction over.
  4. I just got back from Los Angeles, I was there for a few weeks. I checked out the New Beverely Theater, which is owned by Quentin Tarantino. I saw Magnum Force and the Hateful Eight again. I went to Universal Studios and checked out the Dunkirk set, it was the last days of filming. The warships that you'll see in the film are all real. Went to the WB lot too.
  5. You take a vacation and the whole world goes crazy
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) I'd love it if we could somehow move someone for some competitive balance picks. I would be ecstatic, because the bigger your bonus pool, the more money you have to play with in the draft.
  7. I am pretty excited about the development of Amado Nunez and what it says about the Sox player development strategy. If a player were performing this well at a level, it seemed like the Sox would promote them if they were ready or not. Now it seems like the Sox are really taking their time with guys and not rushing them. Look at Call, Hansen and Fisher for example. Its a new day for the Sox. *Also I really like Franklin Reyes from what the reports and articles that I've read and the video I've scene. Really excited to see him after his first season as professional and after another year of instructs.
  8. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20160823&...ws&c_id=cws At the end of the article, the wording is confusing. Is Collins or Hansen going to the Arizona Fall League? Only one can go, right? Only Collins will be going to the AFL but before he goes, he will attend the instructional, which Hansen will also be attending.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 20, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) 7th. It will put the Sox at the 7th pick in the draft. Unfortunately that's the best thing that can come from this season.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 11:39 PM) I think we'll have a huge losing streak before it's over. I'd say something like a 2-10 run. My guess is we win seven games in September. Where will that put the Sox in the draft? I am expecting a terrible September as well because there are no impact players that they can call up. And a lot of the young players that have been called up (with the exception of Anderson) have not been performing well. They play a lot of divisional games during the final stretch and hopefully that continues to be a thorn in their side, plus teams like the Royals and Rockies are doing everything they can to get into the playoffs.
  11. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) The way the Red Sox are surging since the AS break, Hahn can forget about getting a "haul" from them this offseason. Their starting pitching has been great despite the fact that I don't think they really have an "ace" when the playoffs roll around. But Porcello may end up winning the Cy Young the way he is pitching. I think you're forgetting how aggressive Dombrowski is?
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 11:14 PM) Just wondering. Does anybody know the last pitcher to lose 20 games in a season and when? Not saying Shields will even get the chance. The Sox will shut him down when he hits 19 losses saying that he's "injured" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink SAY no more...) and save him the embarrassment (and of course save the front office the embarrassment too...) Mark There have been a total of 499, 20 game losers. The last 20 game loser was Mike Maroth in 2003, he pitched for the Tigers and went 9-21: 5.73 ERA, 1 CG, 193.1 IP, 87 Ks, 50 BBs, 1.453 WHIP, 5.32 FIP, 34 HRA and 0.2 WAR. The best 20 game loser of all time is 1910 Ed Walsh, who pitched for the Sox of course and went 18-20: 1.27 ERA, 33 CG, 7 SO, 369.2 IP, 258 Ks, 61 BBs, 0.820 WHIP, 1.63 FIP, 5 HRA, and 10.9 WAR
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) If I copy painted a Van Gogh painting, would that make me a good artist? No, it would make me a copy cat. The original was good, the remake was unnecessary and offered nothing new except the english language. If it was good, they would have made the rest of the movies. Good movies don't guarantee sequels, money does. That film went up against some good competition during the holiday season that year and was R Rated, so it had a hard time at the BO. If Finher makes WWZ2 and it's a hit, he'll be able to make the sequel to GWTDT. The American version is not a shot for shot remake of the Swedish film, like Gus Van Sant's Psycho. It's just another (faithful) adaptation of the book but it's different from the Swedish version. This is where auteur theory comes into play, you give two directors the same book to adapt, you're going to get two different movies, it's only human nature. I know everyone likes Rotten Tomatoes, it's got an 86% there and is certified fresh and I think metacritic has it labeled universally acclaimed. Not to mention, all the accolades the film got. If you didnt like it that's cool but it wasn't a bad movie.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:14 PM) Girl with a Dragon Tattoo was a mirror copy of the original in English, that isn't a good movie If the original of Dragon Tattoo is a good movie and the Fincher version is a mirror copy, wouldn't that be a good movie too? QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) I love DF but Dragon tattoo was not good and Benjamin Button was dull. Panic Room needs more love. I still think Alien 3 was fine. I like Benjamin Button a lot, not among my favorite of his films but I appreciate how different it is in context to everything else that he's done. To each their own.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) Think it's just online Well that sucks.
  16. Is the new Star Trek show coming to CBS cable channel. It's always mentioned with CBS All Access, is that their streaming app?
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) I got 5 on it. Let's actually make one. We can make a video, it would be hilarious.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) Fincher deserves better than that. If you've been following his career lately, you'd know two things: He's been flirting with doing a blockbuster recently for a very long time and came very close with an adaptation of 20,000 Leauges Under The Sea, the plug was pulled because he and Disbey couldn't come to an agreement on casting. He wanted Brad Pitt, Dinsey wanted Channing Tatum. Secondly, he was developing a few shows at HBO and the plug was pulled on those over financial reasons. This might be a career move to get traction on those projects again. If he has a hit blockbuster l, he would be able to do whatever he wants. He's had a really great career but he's doesn't have the hit tentpoles movie. Alien 3 was a disaster and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was a great movie but lost a lot of money.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) They can't stop Cuban from bidding on a team. They can not vote for him to own a team. I know that the fact that it's something they won't even seriously consider is ridiculous. Just going off his NBA, he turned a laughing stock franchise and turned them into a perennial contender. And if you want to say he's a loose canon, the guy has mellowed a lot over the course of the past few years.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Not supposed to make sense for the fans, it's supposed to make cents for the owners. If someone has the financial ability to bankroll a sports franchise and that money is clean, isn't that all matters? And I think he can be an owner of a team he just can't have a controlling interest. Because he was allowed to bid on that Rangers when they were in bankruptcy court, where he was partnered with Jim Crane. Maybe Cuban isn't enough of an old white man and maybe that scares the MLB owners. f***, Jeffery Loria can own a team but not Mark Cuban.
  21. I think having the owner's committee approve a new owner is ridiculous. It never made any sense to me.
  22. Cuban would be an ideal owner, he's tried to buy a MLB team a couple times.
  23. I was of the understanding that once JR passes on that his son would take control of both the Bulls and Sox, but he would most likely sell the Sox because he has no interest in running the team.
