  1. David Fincher is in talks to direct the World War Z sequel.
  2. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 01:42 AM) Calling up Hansen seems completely absurd. Even if the team was in contention I'd be against it. He was *broken* in college less than 4 months ago. The Chris Sale schedule doesn't work for everyone. I was talking in the sense of the absolute earliest. I think we'll see hin on the southside in 2018
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) i hope we dont rush these guys too much. september callup for hansen is too soon IMO, let him continue to develop in the minors fisher also 2/2 with a 2b and a BB tonight I think the soonest Hansen is called up is after the break next year.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) Such a streaky pen. Once it blows a game in a series, it seems they blow another one. if you want to blame the performance of the bullpen (post ASB), look no further than Sale
  5. I dont think Robertson is declining in talent, I think he's been over used.
  6. Would like to see him get s*** down at the conclusion of the MILB season he can get some time to rest and start prepping to be a starter. Maybe him being called up, pushes Fulmer to the rotation.
  7. QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) I don't think Remains of the Day is an obscure reference at all. Just pointing at a performance in a film that had an actor turned in even an ounce less of an effort the whole thing would have been loss. Yes, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson are both pretty much living legends. Sorry, I guess that point wasn't clearly articulated. John Boyega was great in Attack the Block before he was in The Force Awakens. Him and Oscar Isaac were the only reason I was even in the theater for that. I haven't seen The Prestige in a long time, I was just all right with it. Didn't stick with me like his take on Dieter Dengler in Rescue Dawn (maybe it's because I'd seen the documentary), or Empire of the Sun (again maybe due to familiarity with subject). Maybe time for a revisit. That other WW2 flick looks pretty good too. Hacksaw Ridge. So we'll have a new Pacific WW2 movie to go with Dunkirk. I love Rescue Dawn, Im a giant fan of Herzog. I haven't seen Empire of the Sun in a long, long time Hacksaw Ridges looks awesome. Check out this movie called, Allied. It stars Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt and they play spies in WW2. It's more of a romance film but it looks great.
  8. I'm still high on Adolfo but he needs to play a full season, injurie are killing his development
  9. QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Lowden and Keoghan were in '71 which is a fun chase/action film. Those two and + Bernard were in that War & Peace miniseries I haven't forced myself to sit through (Paul Dano as Pierre lol) yet so they're not total amateurs. Still, it's not like Nolan is making Remains of the Day or something that's going to require a huge effort on their part. I'm probably stepping in it with that phrasing but I don't really care for Nolan and his characters are usually the thinnest part of the movies. And RE: Matt Damon, I think he's going to be ok. Didn't you guys see the trailer for The Great Wall? I think he is underrated when it comes to directing actors. When people talk about Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight, no one gives him any credit. Heath Ledger just didn't walk on set and BAM, he was directed and instructed by Nolan on how to play that part. The Prestige is filled with great performances and has my favorite performance by Christian Bale. What an obscure reference, I haven't seen Remains of the Days in a long time but I don't get why you brought it up. If you're talking about that films casting, I think most of that cast were already established (some were superstars) at that point in their careers by the time that film came out. I never said the young cast of Dunkirk were amateurs but despite some of them having a few small credits to their names, they are unknown, just like how John Boyega and Daisy Ridley were unknown when they joined The Force Awakens. I am curious to see how Dunkirk is going to play out. You would think that the film based on its historical subject matter and this director, would come out right in awards season but it's coming out in the middle of summer but so did Saving Private Ryan. And in every press release, the movie is being sold not as a war film but as an 'epic action thriller', which has me more intrigued.
  10. QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Who is the unknown in the cast? I know he cast the teeny bopper dude, but outside of that it looks like he's got some big hitters (Hardy, Rylance, Branagh) Hardy, Rylance and Branagh are all supporting roles. The cast is lead by Fionn Whitehead (who's been reported as being the lead), Jack Lowden, Anuerin Bernard, Barry Keoghan and Harry Stlyes, who is an unknown actor.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) Desperately? He's coming off The Martian, one of the best movies of the past decade, for which he won Best Actor at the Golden Globes. Holy crap, I forgot about that movie (wasn't a big fan) but outside of that its been a tough going. Monuments Men, Elysium, We Bought a Zoo. I could go on.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) I would LOVE a Suicide Squad directed by Tarantino and not just because of the fan made "Tarantino's Suicide Squad" trailer. I thought the same thing watching the movie, that how the source material is perfectly suited to Tarantino but that won't happen.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 11:52 PM) As is Martinez. Yes 2-2. So is Brandon Hyde. #GabeKaplerWhiteSoxManager2017

Apparently a lot of Joker/Harley Quinn was cut out of the film because it was too graphic and would've pushed the film to a R rating. If anyone is familiar with their relationship you know that it's extremely abusive and toxic, I love how the movie alluded to that without any exposition and over the top moments, it was done really subtly. The movie is much better the second time and I am super excited for the solo Harley Quinn film. I think the Suicide Squad franchise should be the DCEU's equivalent to the Mission Impossible/Fast & Furious franchises. Each film gets a new director, a new take and genre. The main cast stays (Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Flagg, and Katana) the same but each film brings a new crop of supporting characters. That being said, I think it was Ayer is coming back for the sequel, he's going to start after he wraps Bright (another Will Smith film).
  15. QUOTE (juddling @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Saw both Suicide Squad and Jason Borne at the drive in last night.....had same feeling on both....not great but not terrible either. Bourne tonight. Damon desperately needs a hit, a lot of his films with the exception of a couple have been bombs.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) I want to see a entirely new coaching staff. I love what Cooper has accomplished here, but I think it's a time for a change at pitching coach too. I'm certain this allies to him, but guys can become complacent over time. I want our new manager to be able to put together his own staff from scratch. Looking for a manager while your current manager is still employed, would turn off a lot of candidates
  17. No question that the Sox have vastly improved their player development, drafting and amateur scouting (both domestic and international) under Hahn, but their major league scouting is behind and has been for some time.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) Intriguing teaser dropped for DUNKIRK Three people that I know through a film exchange are extras in the film, could not be more jealous. But it's the perfect teaser, from what I understand none of the footage in the teaser, besides from the last shot, will be used in the film. The teaser looks like it was all shot in IMAX too. Like that Nolan is going with an unknown cast this.
  19. I remain high on Tim Anderson, he is only going to get better if with experience, which is defined by Hawk as, knowledge you get when you didnt want it (or something stupid like that).

In regards to the movie's use of soundtrack, I have to leave what I was doing because I have a migraine. My ears are still ringing.

Just got out of Suicide Squad and while it wasn't great or what I wanted it to be, it was a good movie and a lot of fun, but I wish that I could've enjoyed it because the constant soundtrack took me out of the movie. It's probably the worst use of music that I've ever seen in any movie. Jared Leto was great as the Joker, he really made the character his own and left an impression in his small amount of screen time. I am super excited to see his Joker go up against Ben Affleck's Batman. Margot Robbie is Harely Quinn, Viola Davis's Amanda Waller is the scariest person in the movie and Will Smith just played himself and that's never a bad thing. I haven't enjoyed Will Smith this much in a long time. A mainstay DC character makes his big screen debut in costume and I thought that it was a wasted opportunity but it was awesome seeing them for the first time. The editing is really, really, really, really, really clunky. The movie would get into a nice grove with its cuts and edits but after a few sequences it would really slow down and get awkward, like a chariot with a busted wheel. There were some shots in the movie that (in my opinion) didn't need to be there. Maybe my eyes are more trained and attuned to this stuff but if you look closely you can see where the reshoots are. A lot of them at the third act, watch Margot Robbie's makeup and Jay Hernandez's tattoos. The villain was very underdeveloped, I don't want to spoil anything but it would've been better if they would have fleshed out that relationship and the villain's reasoning of doing what they in both human and monster form. Being a film guy, loved that the movie was shot on film and the colors and overall image is great. Good cinematography. I would give the movie a B- and I'm going to predict it will make somewhere between $650-700M, the word of mouth amongst people is very good despite the mixed reviews from critics. I haven't seen the CinemaScore yet. Stay after the credits. ****** My advice to the execs at WB: Chill the f*** out! I understand that the studio has been having a hard time at the BO for a few years now and it understandable why you would get nervous about a multi billion dollar film franchise but they have now meddled with two DC movies, in Suicide Squad and BvS. Would the Zack Snyder cut of BvS have a hard time of reaching a billion dollars at the BO because it's a three hour movie? Yeah but it would have been praised so much more by people and the narrative around the DCEU would be entirely different. Suicide Squad would have been better if weren't for the studio melding their cut with David Ayer's because the film is all over the place tonally. They keep saying they learned their lesson and are going to get out of their creative's way and I hope so because they can't f*** up Wonder Woman and Justice League, which both look phenomenal.
