  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 14, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) If he can, it won't be with the Sox. They haven't developed a position player to a MLB starter in about a decade. I would have 0 faith of them doing it with the hardest position to develop. Let's try something a little easier first. So you don't want the Sox to draft any position players ever?
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 13, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) If he was offered a QO knowing he wouldn't throw a single pitch this year and rejected it, he'd be dumb ha Strasburg did just accept a huge discount a year away from free agency. So yeah, dumb things happen all the time.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 13, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) I'm surprised the Royals didn't even try to sign him. Or any other team for that matter. He is out for the entire season.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) He was non tendered. No QO. Even better, I hope they sign him because it could be a great bargain buy
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 13, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) So he'll be 31 next season. It's ok as a flyer but I just don't know how much he has left. KC got their money's worth and now he's a 30 year old closer coming off TJ. TJ is not the death sentence that it used to be, it might have added some life to his arm.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 13, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) I wouldn't hate that. I don't know what he has left though. What's his age? 30
  7. After the draft because I think he has a QO attached to him, I would like the Sox to sign Greg Holland. I know that he is out for the entirety of this season but he would be a huge addition to the Sox pen next year.
  8. Chances Hahn trades for Severino after today's shelling?
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 13, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) You want good contact out of the 2 spot, Sox don't exactly have a ton of those guys. I'd say Lawrie or AJax can both work better. Lawrie Ks a bit too much for my liking in that spot, but he's been hitting pretty damn well so far. I'm much more confident in his ability to hit a fastball right down the pipe than Rollins. Abreu is the best option to bat second. Eaton Abreu Melky Frazier Lawrie Avi Rollins/Saladino/Avila/Navarro Rollins/Saladino/Avila/Navarro Jackson
  10. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 13, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) Buxton was the best prospect in baseball for multiple years and even now he's like the 6th youngest player in AAA. I would gladly trade any player (or two) in our system for him. He hasn't been given ample time to develop
  11. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ May 13, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) I dunno. Even though he has superstar upside, he hasn't done much to prove It. I'd much rather draft a batter that is raking (like Kyle Lewis and Corey Ray) because they've proven they can dominate their current competition, same with pitchers. Going for upside alone, without any results to back it up, is too risky to me. Look at Byron Buxton, wasn't he supposed to be a superstar? He's been a total scrub so far. Buxton was also rushed to the big leagues. I think the team that drafts Perez understands that they have to be patient with him in first year as a professional
  12. I really like Severino a lot, there is a lot of potential in that arm, if the starter thing doesn't work out, he could be a really good high leverage arm out of the pen.
  13. Am I crazy for not thinking Zach Collins is worth a top ten pick? It might be very old school of me but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a guy without a defensive position that high. Collins is probably a DH at the next level and I don't think he is a good enough hitter to justify taking a DH that high.
  14. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) 90's reunions, my wife went to see Babes in Toyland a while back. I never got into that scene. I saw Radiohead open for R.E.M. pre-OK Computer. That's sick, what album was REM touring? My first concert was Prince, but the first concert I ever asked to see was Radiohead in 2006. I was 14 at the time. My mom and my older sister are fans, so I guess my fandom comes from them. I remember that summer, my older sister was in Hawaii and my litter sister was at dance camp, so it was just me and my mom for the first month of summer. We've been listening to a lot of Radiohead that summer together (Bloc Party too) and I heard that they were coming to Chicago while listening to the radio. We got tickets and went to the show later that month. We got to the very front row and I remember having my mind blown the f*** away. When I saw them play Lucky, I almost cried. That show was right around the time when I started to really go hard in pursuing music and it was a night that I'll never forget. Me and my mom, also saw them at Lollapalooza in 2008. We got there a little after noon and we camped out the whole day at the main stage and saw Yeasayer, Gogol Bordello, Bloc Party and Radiohead. My two favorite bands. I think Radiohead played almost a three hour set and all of In Rainbows. We were right against the gate and I took a bunch of pictures.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ May 13, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Michael B Jordan in Black Panther. He and Koogler are joined at the hip. Boseman, Lupita and now Michael B. Jordan, this cast is amazing.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) I agree! I was pleasantly surprised that this didn't look like crap. Still think it might be for fans of the series only. It looks great but I think the trailer could've been better suited towards the general audience. I really like how Ubisoft Films adapt their properties. They start not with a script or a director but with casting their lead (Fassbender and Tom Hardy, who's playing Sam Fisher) and that actor becomes the auteur of the film. So with AC, Fassbender was the one who hired the director, Justin Kruzel (who directed him in Macbeth) and cast Marion Cotillard (who was also in Macbeth) and oversaw development of the script. It's very old school and that approach to developing a film isn't used anymore. I'm exited to see how it turns out.
  17. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 12, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) Anybody watched this? A summary? He talked about the importance on throwing strikes and pitching to contact. He also spoke about his experience living with kidney/liver disease.
  18. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 12, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) Pretty stoked to see them at ACL. Really good stuff. Seeing them at Lollapalooza and I'm going to try to see them in California
  19. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ May 12, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Anyone think we could go with a HS player in round 1? Yes
  20. I would like some speed on the bench
  21. He's on the whole hour, I'm interested to hear what he has to say on Sabremetrics
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:42 AM) Which brings me to this question.... At pick #10....would you guys rather have a top 1 or 2 talent whose stock is falling right now and slides to #10, or would you rather have a guy who was a late 1st RD pick whose stock has exploded late and all the sudden becomes a top 10 pick by draft day. Which would you rather the Sox select at #10? Groome is sliding because of the registration incident, a lot of teams are apparently reading that as a character issue. He had a poor outing, by his standards during his first start back*, but he did strike out 6 in two innings yesterday and starts again on Monday against his school's big rival. Since I (am not a crazy person and) don't read the registration issue as a red flag against his character and read his first start back as him shaking off some rust, I would take him in a heartbeat if he's there at #10. Back to your question, in a year where there is no consensus top player, you would have to take on a case by case basis. I would feel comfortable if they took a guy who's exploding, like a Joey Wentz or Dakota Hudson than someone who was raked pretty high and stock has fallen like a Alec Hansen, who may be pitching himself back into the first round. *Joey Rose, the kid who homered off of Groome is a projected second/third round pick.
  23. How about adding a clock to the game? How about 10 minute innings for a 90 minute game?
  24. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ May 11, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) How good of a spot is 10 in this draft? Is this a draft with a drop off after 3, 5, etc? Or much tougher to tell? Sorry if these are basic questions, I don't follow the draft closely Since there is no clear definitive #1 player, the draft is weaker and rankings are all over the place. 10 is a good place to be, because since there's no consensus a player that the Sox have highly rated on their board could fall to them.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) I don't understand the love for Dakota Hudson lately. Lacks good secondary options, limited track record. I mean he tore up the cape but I wouldn't be thrilled with him at 10. I think he's just getting love because of the lack of college pitching. I wouldn't completely disagree with you but I'm confident in the Sox's ability to develop arms.
