  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Yeah I feel like if we don't sign him, I have no clue what we will do to try to improve LF. No one on here wants them to spend money and we don't really have the prospects to try to acquire a legit upgrade. We can only hope teams that have guys blocked in the OF (much like Eaton) are willing to move them cheap. I think Hahn is willing to spend the money but spending the money and the 2nd round draft pick for Cabrera may be too much for Hahn. If you look at last year, that second round pick was Spencer Adams. There are some free-agents out there that don't require a draft pick which may be more realistic for us, someone like Nick Markakis could be the free agent signing from Hahn that would not only give us a plus defender in the outfield, but would also give us a good left-handed hitter without giving up that draft pick. I'm surprised we've not heard chatter that the White Sox are in on Markakis for example.
  2. I'd be surprised if we sign Melky as a free agent and give up a draft pick based on our signings and trade attempts so far. Hahn has not willingly given up a draft pick last year or so far this year and that is with protected picks and I'd be shocked to see that this year unless it was for someone like Scherzer.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 01:33 AM) Belisario cleared and was assigned to Charlotte. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  4. I was surprised it was Carroll and not Rienzo that was DFA'd. I thought Carroll could do more of a job in the pen than Rienzo. I still think Rienzo will be DFA'd, once more moves are made.
  5. He did well right up until the point that Lindstrom went down and Robin tried to use him as closer. Then he blew a few saves, his confidence went and he never pitched the same since. He was so bad at one point, Robin considered Dunn in the pen ahead of him. I blame Robin for putting him in the closers spot. I reckon he would have had an ok year if he'd been the 7th or 8th inning guy.
  6. Hahn is to a committed relationship where KW is to an overpriced hooker
  7. We could trade them Danks for him......
  8. I see us trading Matt Davidson away for starting pitching. As Tim Lincecum seems to be out of favour in San Francisco and Sandoval is out of contract. I reckon we could see Matt Davidson and Marcus Semien for Tim Lincecum as the 1st trade on November 23rd.
  9. Priority 1 - Bullpen - Closer - Maybe somebody like Huston Street. Priority 2 - Bullpen - Lefties - Guys like Miller, Cotts or Thatcher. (sign 2 of the aforementioned) Priority 3 - Left-handed bats - Need 2 in, 1 at LF and 1 at DH / 1B - Possible signing Markakis and La Roche to fill these roles. If we fulfil these needs, then I'm happy, I would like another rightie starting pitcher but I think we could go with Sale, Q, Noesi, Danks and Bassitt and be competitive if we attend to the other needs.
  10. Yeps 1) Bring in a proven closer - A proven closer will set up the guys we already have to roles in the pen. We don't need to do a lot to the pen, but bringing in a closer would put the likes of Putnam, Petricka and Guerra in proper roles in the pen rather than being shuffled about to fill in. 2) Sign 1 big name starter - The rotation next year looks to be Sale, Q, Danks and Noesi. Bringing in one big name righty starter would put Q to 3, Noesi to 4 and Danks to 5. We're stuck with Danks contract, we may as well make the best of it 3) Sign a Left Handed Left Fielder - More than likely, Tank will play DH next season with Jordan Danks / Moises Sierra likely to be the back up outfielder, one outfielder should be enough with Eaton and Avi in the outfield already Nopes 1) Don't bring in a proven catcher. Flowers has done the job this year and seems to handle the pitching staff well and with Nieto / Phegley as back up, we aren't too bad going forward. If we are trading pieced away, then I'd rather see us bringing in young talented catchers to come through the system. 2) Don't put Rodon in the rotation. I'd like to see him as either a leftie in the pen or another year in Charlotte before he comes up to give him some more experience. 3) Don't trade away Alexei. His defense has been great this year and with Carlos Sanchez at 2nd base and Marcus Semien as the utility guy, our infield looks and can hit better than when we had Beckham. Plus. I would like to see Micah spend some more time in AAA
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) Pedro also did it with 217 innings. I love Chris Sale, don't get me wrong. But at 180-185 innings (if he gets there), it becomes a little asterisk-worthy. Kershaw has pitched the same amount of games and only 14 innings more than Sale, should he have an asterix too when he wins his CY Young. If Sale continues like this he could be the 1st pitcher to have an ERA below .200 and more than 200 strikeouts since Pedro in 2000 and it would be a crime if he did not win the CY Young.
  12. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) Fantastic work, Rick. Any chance of dumping Danks? Or is that like asking for peace in the Middle East? Cheers, Dear Andy the Clown I'm Rick Hahn, not Moses. I'd have a better chance of parting the Red Sea than getting someone to trade for Danks. Can I ask what more do you want from me, I've managed to dump both Beckham and Dunn. I'd like to have seen Moses shift those two and get anything back in return. Yours faithfully Rick Hahn GM of the Year 2015. PS Jeff Keppinger says hi. He's enjoying his millions on the beach.
  13. Ok, we have the double header on Saturday against the Tigers. How do you think we'll play this. We have a number of options available. 1) We could go with what we have and call up a reliever / outfielder for the double header and run Sale in Game 1 and Q in Game 2 with Noesi pitching Sunday and rest days on Monday and Thursday next week. 2) We could call up Rienzo and pitch him on Saturday with 4 days rest or Sunday with 5 days rest. 3) We could call up Rodon and pitch him on Saturday, he is due to pitch for Charlotte that day anyway. I personally would love to see Rodon, but I just have a feeling that we'll see Sale and Q on the Saturday and Noesi on the Sunday
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Castro had a huge 2013, but in 2012 & 2014 combined, Tyler Flowers has put up the exact same WAR that Castro has in 30 less games. Which is still better than Beckham who we are comparing him to.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) second re: Beckham, I really like him but he was good enuf to make it to the majors, but as of today, he stalled. I went back to look at his draft class, how many other prospect was there after is selection that did great? I know I am talking about hindsight. If you are talking hindsight, then lets look at the number 10 pick - Jason Castro, our catching issues would be resolved if we drafted him. Or how about the number 19 pick Andrew Cashner who has pitched really well recently with the Padres. The supplemental picks that year included Lance Lynn who is pitching really well for the Cardinals and a certain left handed third baseman called Conor Gillaspie. If you could predict these crap shoots then you'd be in a job for years to come. For reference Craig Kimbrel went in the 3rd Round, Dee Gordon in the 4th Round Anthony Rendon went in the 27th Round and Yan Gomes went in the 39th Round all of them did better than Kyle Skipworth who was drafted 6th by the Marlins.
  16. I think that Rodon may have had his last inning pitched for the Knights. I get this feeling that he will get called up on 30/8 to pitch one game of the double header against the Tiggers. Think about it. We get to temporarily expand the roster to 26 for one game of the DH. Sale is due to pitch one of those 2 games with Carroll pitching on Friday. Rodon gets called up for the double header with Sale and Rodon pitching on Saturday. (Great Marketing tool for the White Sox) After the DH, Carroll/ Rodon gets optioned back to the Knights and then called up again when the Rosters expand on 1st September.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Kyle Blanks & Craig Gentry are both on rehab assignments, so it could just be one of them being called back up from the DL. It could be, but why would you option Otero for a week when Gentry only went on his rehab assignment on 18th August and Blanks went on his on 9th August? Both still have time left on their rehab assignments and no offense to Blanks or Gentry but you wouldn't send Otero down for either of them. It could be an interesting few hours ahead. Pack your bags Andy Wilkins and get to New York...
  18. The A's have optioned Dan Otero to AAA (one of their best relievers) because he has options, they haven't announced a corresponding move, a few Oakland writers suspect that its due to an incoming player acquired through a waiver trade. Could it be Dunn?
  19. If he learns to hit well whilst getting a part-time role then he'd be ideal for the cost. A Left Handed bat that can be brought in late defensively. Assuming we are going with Tank LF, Eaton CF and Avi G at RF. Then Danksy would be ideal back up for this trio at a reasonable cost. If we move Tank, then I would be uncomfortable with Danks as a starting outfielder and would assume that we would be scouring the market for a decent Left Fielder.
  20. QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 07:24 AM) The logical decision would be to DFA Dunn to open up room for Garcia to DH and just focus on hitting for the final month and week of the season. Let De Aza and Viciedo play for the final month to see if they can get hot and build some trade value/a reason to hang on to them for next year. Or we could release Belisario, move Dunn to the pen and use Garcia as DH.... Dunn can't be any worse than Ronnie Bellend...
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) I think the White Sox should have protested the game. Make MLB come out and say the rule was interpreted correctly. I agree. I was surprised to see that the game wasn't played under protest at the end. It would have been the sensible way forward. I wonder if Parent / Ventura had even thought of that as an option with all that went on.
  22. Screwed by the umpires. What happened to common sense? One simple question should be asked. Would he still be out if the catcher had provided a "proper running lane"? The answer was clearly yes. This coupled with the time it took to make the crap call. 4 mins 55 secs plus the Ventura Tantrum time, then 1 minute to correct the error on putting the runner on third base. This rule needs sorted. I'm all for catcher's safety but this is ridiculous.
  23. Call up Wilkins and put Dunn in the pen until Lindstrom comes back. 1) Wilkins can't be any worse than Dunn hitting 2) Dunn can't be any worse than Surkamp pitching. 3) The fans get some entertainment watching the Big Donkey pitch.
  24. Patience Padawan. They'll be up in 23 days.
