  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Just throw out the Puig idea. He doesn't have anywhere close to that ceiling. Actually De Aza/Viciedo hybrid makes more sense. The power and speed of De Aza (15-20 homer top, 30 steal top), with the arm of Viciedo (but better, really a plus/plus arm). The baseball IQ of both of them, including defensive instincts. More realistically we'd have the strikeout ability and speed of Viciedo with the arm and baserunning of De Aza coupled with the hype and expectancy of the hybrid by the fans which then only ends up doomed for failure. It's like an outfield version of Dunn
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) I think we can all agree that what really excites fans about a young player is a blend of speed and power. Those guys like Trout and Puig and to a lesser extent Andrew McCutcheon and Carlos Gomez. They are a rare breed smashing HR's, flying all over the outfield and the bases ,making great catches and nailing runners with awesome throws. I see some of those thing in Moises Sierra although he is in his mid 20's rather than his early 20's. He's fast, makes some outstanding catches and has a great arm .He's had some decent years in the minors nothing that would leap out at you to suggest he's a budding superstar. Has potential to hit for power being 6"1" 220 . What I did notice is that he hasn't had a chance to get 400 AB's in one level since he was 22 in AA which looks like his best season in the minors. He reminds me a lot of Carlos Gomez actually not in his minor league numbers but in development. Gomez always had the great glove but didn't break out as a hitter until he was 27 . Since the Sox picked him up he is hitting .304 with a .788 OPS in 102 AB's. All I'm saying is with his tools and size he needs to be looked at closer and deserves more playing time to see what he is. He is an exciting guy to watch certainly and without the chip on his shoulder of a Gomez or the preening of Puig. He's also appears to be a fun guy in the clubhouse. Thoughts ? I don't know if he is of the level of Puig or McCutcheon, but I agree that he needs more at bats. I think we need to face the fact the De Aza won't be with us next year and is a liabilty. I don't see any reason not to give Sierra a full-time shout untilt he end of the season to see if he is the real deal. We really don't have anyone else.
  3. Hahn's been really unlucky with his bullpen, no-one could have predicted that he'd lose both Lindstrom and Jones to injury and that Bela and Down would suck so badly. That's 4 veteran guys who have either not been around or failed in the pen. It's meant that the youngsters such as Petricka have had to step up and there is only so much that these guys can do. I don't know who the corresponding move will be, but whoever it is, they can't be any worse than we have. It may be Cleto, I hear he's got his fastball back to full pelt. I feel sorry for Thompson as he looked ok when he first came up, but since the bullpen have collapsed, it looks like the morale of the whole pen has crashed and that has to come from the veterans and Thompson has been poor since then. Lindstrom and Putnam will be due back soon, I fully expect Bela to be released and Surkamp sent back down / released to make way. I'd rather have a pen of all righties than Surkamp. I think Rienzo will be sent down and replaced with someone else which leaves Guerra, who I think may be the only one that pitched last night that survives the expected cull. Last night was embarrassing and something needs to be done about it, I don't believe that Thompson will be the only casualty
  4. DFA them all. Either release them or demote them. Utter garbage.
  5. Reallistically we are steadily building. We have some needs but are closer than we were last year. Next year will look something like this:- Catchers Josh Phegley Tyler Flowers (unless Hahn can pull a move for a catcher Infield Jose Abreu 1B Micah Johnson 2B Alexei Ramirez SS Conor Gillaspie 3B Marcus Semien UTL Leury Garcia UTL Andy Wilkins 1B / DH Outfield Tank LF Adam Eaton CF Avi Garcia RF Jordan Danks OF Rotation Chris Sale Hector Noesi Jose Quintana John Danks Erik Johnson Bullpen Zach Putnam Matt Lindstrom Dan Webb Erik Surkamp Carlos Rodon (L) Scott Carroll (long) Jake Petricka (Closer) That is the reality of next year. If we pick up some pieces, great. Unless a big deal happens, Alexei and Danks will be staying. Experience will be given to the prospects and Sanchez will probably the odd man out. You may see a lefty come in to replace Surkamp and possibly a righty come into the pen for Putnam, but I'd be surprised. If Alexei is traded, Sanchez will be brought up and we'll probably see a starter come in. Davidson will get a few months in AAA to develop along with Revelo and possibly Tim Anderson. Other than that, Welcome to your 2015 White Sox - The Future is now. Once the experience is given to the guys in 2015, this bunch will be evaluated and Hahn will go for it in 2016.
  6. So, last night I watched at least 4 MLB writers have an orgasm on twitter or television. Not one of them predict the big moves and there was 3 fake stories that they fell for. Sack the lot of them, bunch of overpaid wannabes.
  7. There is hope. If teams want Barney, then surely anyone can get traded.
  8. 5 games off the Wildcard spot is the positive thing to look at and I wonder if this is why we haven't seen any movement on the trade front. Our schedule over the next couple of weeks isn't too bad. We have 6 more games against the Twins (3 at the Cell, 3 on the Road), 3 Home games against the Tigers and 3 Road games in Detroit. If we can get a decent enough record in the next 2 weeks then who knows, as unlikely as it seems, we could challenge for that 2nd Wild Card spot. The Glass may be half-full and it's certainly tasting better than it tasted last year.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) I'm guessing there probably has been, but Dunn is a fat chick at a bar. Nobody is going to go up to her first, but by the end of the night, someone will be desparate enough to take her home. That has to be the best sum up of why some players get traded for so much at the Trade Deadline. Absolutely brilliant. Would this make Alex Rios and Jesse Crain "Fat Chicks"
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) How come nobody wants to give Phegley another shot? His numbers have been climbing as well? I'd love to give Phegs another shot but we don't have the space for him at the moment with Nieto and Flowers on the roster. I think he'll get his chance in September to show the club that he can hit MLB pitching, not before unless Flowers gets traded....
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Yeah, I think the Wilkins love is fascinating, but reality says he will be 26 in less than 2 months and even with this hot streak, sports a .309 OBP in AAA. Phegley and Jordan Danks are also putting up big numbers and they couldn't do anything at the next level. Anyone actually thinking Wilkins is a really good prospect is thinking with their heart and not their head. We won't know if he is any good at the MLB until he gets exposed to MLB pitching. I think we'll see him this year. If Dunn is traded, we may see him July as the left handed DH / 1B option. If he is not traded, i reckon we'll see him in the September call-ups. He won't get a better chance to show what he can do and the White Sox have nothing to lose, he could be a cheap left handed power bat to spot Abreu on an offday and to man the DH spot. You never know until you give him a shot.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:32 AM) Semien has played 226 games at SS the next highest is 2B at 72 We really don't want to touch Barney with a barge pole. Barney is the worst hitter I have seen, the Cubs in some games preferred to bring in Travis Wood as a pinch hitter over Barney. His defense is excellent but we can't afford to carry another bum who can't hit when we already have so many in the team.
  13. Buerhle will always be a legend to me. The guy is living history. He has a perfect game and a no-hitter. a 5 time all star, 4 time Gold Glove winner. He's won and saved a World Series game in the same series and he pitches at a fast pace, the fastest in MLB atm by a good 2 seconds a pitch. He has pitched at least 200 innings with at least 10 wins for the last 10 years and he has the best slide I've seen on a rain soaked Tarpaulin. All this and his fast ball is slower than some player's change-ups. He may not get into the Hall of Fame but damn, he's given me some fantastic memories.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) I like how everytime the Dodgers are mentioned as a trade partner for anything, inevitably people post "I just want Joc Pederson". The original poster is saying that we pick up an overpriced declining injury prone veteren for the outfield. I'm simply maki ng the point that a young up and coming hot hitting outfield star who is MLB ready and blocked would be a better answer than Matt Kemp. If the original poster has said that we should go for Josh Beckett, then I would respond with "I'd rather have Zach Lee".
  15. I'd rather have Joc Pederson
  16. QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) Tell that to the Cubs (but they did collect great hitting spects). I would say pitching, L handed bat to complement Abreu and a starting catcher. IMO I can see us trading for at least one starting pitcher (AAA level, good prospect). A starting catcher (AAA level good prospect) and a starting left fielder (AAA level good prospect) With the pieces we have in place, the rest are meh. I think we'll trade away Viciedo, Beckham, Danks, De Aza and Dunn. I think we'll keep Alexei. In the off-season, if Hahn doesn't get the above, then he'll scour the free agent market and try to trade for one. He'll also be on the hunt for some bullpen pieces and a closer in the off-season. I think Hahn will be looking to start to compete next year.
  17. Unless we get a mouthwatering deal, I wouldn't move Alexei. I reckon Hahn sees him and Abreu as the heart of the infield and is building around them.
  18. With Dunn gone at the end of the year and Paulie retiring and the likelihood of Viciedo being traded, this could lead to Conor being in the DH position allowing Davidson to play 3rd base next year. Potentially that would give us an infield of 1B Abreu 2B Johnson SS Ramirez 3B Davidson With Semien and Leury Garcia as utility guys. That isn't bad and with Avi Garcia returning next year to join Eaton in the outfield. I reckon that this would mean that we would be looking for an outfielder and a catcher if we have Gillaspie at DH. I reckon that these positions will be what Hahn will target in trades / offseason.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) He actually has two complete games already and averages over 7 innings per start. I never checked the stats but whenever I've payed attention to him pitching its usually between 6 and 6.2 innings pitched. It's nice too see he has 2 complete games.
  20. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 02:46 AM) 6ip 1r 10k against the blue jays for tanaka lol :/ One thing with Tanaka, he generally only goes 6 or 7 innings, I can't remember him having a complete game at all this year. He's like the Yankees version of Max Scherzer.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 35m Bovada's AL Rookie of the Year odds: Tanaka NY 2/5 Abreu Chi. 3/1 Springer Hou 7/1 Bogaerts Bos 8/1 Solarte NY 18/1 Castellanos Det 25/1 Mike Olt 1,000,000,000,000/1
  22. Short Answer no. Our outfielders are bad, so is Grady. We are looking to build for the future not let a broken down old veteran try to reignite his career with us. I'd rather see Keenyn Walker out there than Grady Sizemore....... Seriously though, the four outfielders we have are the ones we are sticking with unless we DFA Sierra or trade De Aza or Tank.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 02:04 AM) US plays Portugal next. Best case scenario is US beats Portugal and Germany beats Ghana, then everything is decided before the last match and the US and Germany can just sit down and have a nice picnic next week. It's not that simple. Although Portugal got wasted by the Germans, that game shows how good Germany are rather than how poor Portugal are. It's similar to Spain getting wasted by the Dutch. The thing that the USA need to watch out for is the Portugese backlash. They will be hurting after that loss and will be looking to take it out on their next opponent. As a Scotsman, I watch the World Cup to enjoy the tournament, not supporting anyone because we aren't in it. If anything, I go with the traditional Scottish A.B.E support (Anyone But England). Needless to say, I enjoyed Italy's win on Saturday and will be cheering Uruguay and Costa Rica when they play England. I'll only be happy and can relax when England are out.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 06:03 AM) Agreeing with the people that say first. Sale - Tanaka - Quintana at the front of the rotation, a serviceable Noesi and Danks. Bullpen is likely taxed less. The ultimate "coulda been" rotation: Sale - Tanaka - Rodon - Quintana - Montas/Danish/Adams/Beck/EJ I kind of disagree with this. We would not have made the move and taken a risk on Paulino. That would have left the rotation starting the year as Sale - Q - Tanaka - Danks - Johnson. It would have meant that when we sent EJ down, we'd have brought Rienzo up and kept him. When Sale went on the DL, we'd have still went with Carroll. If we had Tanaka, I honestly don't believe that we would have went for Noesi.
