  1. To state the obvious, we have 2 guys here competing for a starting job, the loser will get sent down when Sale comes back. I personally am looking forward to see if either Leesman or Rienzo can step up and claim the 5th Starters job
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) Yet their run differential is zero. Hopefully that will change with Paulino out of the rotation.
  3. Paulino is rotten, worse than Axelrod was.
  4. Robin isn't the greatest manager out there but to blame him for the failing bullpen is taking things too far. In the bullpen, you have a closer that can't close - Matt Lindstrom You have a lefty speciallist that walks the lefties he faces - Scott Downs You have a set up guy who can't get outs, walks people and is erratic - Ronald Bellisario You had your second lefty who threw more balls than strikes which ultimately cost him his roster spot - Donnie Veal. You have a newbie that has done well but does walk too many hitters - Maikel Cleto Nate Jones wasn't fit and got hit around. That leaves you with two rookies in the bullpen to rely on in Dan Webb and Jacob Petricka. Any manager would struggle to manage that bunch. The so-called veterans need to step up and do what they get paid for, especially Bellisario and Downs. Once those two sort it out and Jones returns, the rest of the pen will fall into place.

    Closer

I'm not too worried with the bullpen as I believe that guys like Lindstrom, Belllisario and Downs will settle down. What is encouraging is that the young guys like Petricka, Cleto and Webb seem to be pitching well and it will be a tough choice for Robin to make when Jones comes back. I think we'll see Lindstrom remain as closer until Jones comes back and if there is no improvement by then, then Robin will look at Jones once he is fully fit again. As for Veal, I think he is on the way out. I reckon we may see him waived soon and Charlie Leesman, eric Surkamp or David Purcey called up in his place.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 03:55 AM) While I think finding a #2 starter is important, I'm not sure how a left-handed power hitter and a legit starting catcher aren't bigger needs. Regardless, give me Masterson over Scherzer, who will come a hell of a lot cheaper and is a perfect fit for our ballpark. I agree with this. I can see Scherzer not having as great a year this year. He could be the new Esteban Loiza...... We have a Number 1 in Sale and a number 2 in Quintana, a number 4 in Johnson. I agree that someone like Masterson should be targetted as the number 3 and someone like Snodgrass or Beck as the number 5 for next year. A lot of things could happen before then though. Scherzer could be introduced to Tommy John....
  7. I find it utterly bizarre that a team that is supposedly challenging for the World Series, would be so short-sighted to not have adequate back-up to a position, especially one filled by a player who has a known existing injury. The Tigers can only look at themselves for being stupid enough to allow this happen.
  8. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 02:33 AM) Toast & Bacon, buckets of Semien, Dunn the tomato? What an awful sandwich. Don't forget to wash it down with the sour taste of a bottle of Keppinger
  9. I may be out of the norm here but I like Dunn. He sends the ball out of the ballpark. I like that. The problem I have with him is that he acts like a victim in the shift. Seriously, Todd Steverson should be hauling his big bearded oscar winning ass over and teaching him how to bunt along the 1st base line. Instead of standing there and hitting into the shift and soft outs. Rather than act the victim, he should be taking the bull by the horms and bunting, you never know, if he does it often enough and it's successful, maybe they'll take the shift off and he can start hitting the way he wants to again. It can't hurt his batting average any more as it's bad at the best of times.
  10. It was probably a tongue in cheek quote but it may be something he considers in June when both Walker and Iwakuma return and if Tank possibly starts hitting, then who knows.... TBH, apart from Paxton, Seattle really doesn't have much else that we'd be interested (maybe Zunino but I really don't see them letting him go.) For all the talk of Franklin, we have a log jam behind Beckham, awaiting him to be traded/released. Saunders would be a backward step. Why trade a promising young player for an older, not much better model. It goes against Hahn's philosophy. I think we may be keeping Viciedo unless Hahn can pull a super-deal or a three-way deal with perhaps the Mets.
