  1. I wonder if Bruce has been left out of the "Reinsdorf Insiders", which could be why he's desperately clinging onto what the ESPN guys are saying to look relevant again.
  2. I'm guessing Bruce went to bed early last night and has just caught up
  3. I know that. I just wanted to show what garbage is out there.
  4. Another tough list. So many to hate. 1) The Shark - Jeff whose name that no-one could spell was an awful pitcher who was arrogant and never listened to Coop. He sucked for us for that reason 2) Adam La Roche - Probably the strangest story in sports history. A grown man taking the huff because a professional sports team wouldn't let his son in the locker room. 3) Adam Dunn - Strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout Home Run. Probably the most frustrating player to watch play the game. 4) Nick Swisher - Didn't want to be a White Sox player, his attitude sucked. 5) David Robertson - Enter the most hyped closer in the game. Big contract, he's going to make the difference. Exit a waste of money and lots of blown saves. Another frustrating player to watch.
  5. What a tough list. The obvious 3 for me are 1) PK14 2) Big Frank 3) Mark Buehrle Then it gets tough. There are tons of players that I've enjoyed over the years, these two I just loved to watch. 4) Joe Crede 5) Aaron Rowand
  6. If we don't get Machado, Harper, Keuchel, Kimbrel and Corbin followed by trades for Trout, Verlander and Scherzer, then I'm going to cwy and cwy and cwy. Then I'm going to fly to Chicago and burn an effigy of Rich Hahn and Kenny Williams outside the stadium and launch a thermo-nuclear bomb at Wrigley Field, filled with dummies that I've retrieved from the prams of overexpectant posters on here.
  7. I'm glad we are out on this one. What a massive overpay for Donaldson.
  8. I like their arms but if 40 man roster space needs to be cleared, and I suspect it will, they could find themselves getting chopped. I can't see Cordell or Tilson staying, it depends who is brought in and who is protected in the Rule 5 but both of them have to be candidates to go, especially with the crowded outfield we have. With LaMarre, why not? He hit really well this year, better than most of the chaff we've kept. Why would you give up a batter that hit .303. He's earned another year. As for long term, why not? He's hit, I know that 33 games is a small sample, but that is promising. You are all for keeping garbage like Cordell about but ready to release LaMarre who hit .303. As for Delmonico, I didn't know he had an option. I could see that being used next year to make room for Eloy on the 25 man.
  9. Thanks Southsider 2k5. That list is much better than it used to be
  10. I can't read any Tribune articles in Scotland. For some reason we are barred for viewing the content. Can someone list the top 5 please.
  11. My twopence worth. Bummer - Keep, I reckon his numbers mean he should be given another shot in the pen. Covey - Keep, in the pen though on a long reliever role. He seemed to be best at that Farquhar - Keep - Minimum contract. He'll remain on the 60 day DL until he either retires or is ready to come back, then he'll go through rehab. He'll be kept due to the good news story in the press. Fulmer - Keep, hopefully a role in the pen will rejuvenate him. Gomez - Gone, he wasn't great. Hitters hitting closer to .300 against him. Gonzales - Gone. He wasn't great before he went on the DL Jones - Keep - More expensive to get rid of and his numbers have been decent, if he could only shake the injury issues Minaya - Keep, hitter hitting .220 against him and he has more strikeouts than walks. Could be a vital piece in the pen Ruiz - Gone - an pick up that didn't shine. Space needed for free agent signings and rule 5 eligibles Santiago - Gone - I can't see what role we have for him. Assuming Covey has the long relief role and we are bringing talent through or signing free agents. I think he will be gone to make way for the next generation. Scahill - Gone - Another free agent pick up who didn't flatter. Shields - Gone - As much as he's done well in mentoring the kids, they will be looking to upgrade on No Game James. Vieira - Gone - As much as I love watching this kid pitch, he got hit around, a lot. We have better needing protected Castillo - Gone - Narvaez and Smith have turned into an effective pair, both hitting well. Dump the cheat. Cordell - Gone - He had 4 hits in 40 plate appearances, that is Adam Dunn bad. A. Garcia - Gone - This year was down to injury. We saw the kind of year he could have but with Eloy coming up, we need to create some space in the outfield. Although dumping Delmonica would one answer to that. L. Garcia - Keep - The guy is a super utility player who can cover all positions. If we are going to platoon Davidson and Palka at DH, then having a guy like this on the bench is a must, add in that he has speed and hit .274 last year. LaMarre - Keep - The guy hit .303 this year for us. I'd love to see what he does over a full season. Tilson - Gone - This one was a tough one. He hit .264 but with no power. I reckon that next year our outfield will consist of Eloy in LF (but not for a few weeks, Engel in CF, La Marre in RF). Delmonica will stay on the roster and get released when Eloy comes up. Palka as DH and Leury as back up and pinch runner. I just don't see the space for Tilson. That's 11 players dumped off the 40 man to protect players and bring in free agents. It could be 12 if we dump Delmonica. It also gives us the option to dump Leury if he struggles and Farquhar if he struggles on his return from injury, although I suspect Danny may end up retiring.
  12. I get that but bringing in young players to supplement the rebuild has to be done at some point. There is a glaring need in the outfield (I know that Eloy, Robert, Adolfo and Rutherford are coming through but what happens if they turn into another Tank. Prospects are not guaranteed, Harper is and with our payroll, we should be going for it with him and Machado. I get that we need pitching but it is not often that two superstars become available at once on the Free Agent Market and both at a time when the Sox have the lowest payroll in baseball.
  13. Bust the bank. Get Machado and Harper, we have the payroll to do this. Blow up the FA market.
  14. In Afrikaans, Palka translates as Michael McCain, I kid you not.
  15. For me, if he hit .250 with 30 homers and has more walks than strikeouts, then I'll be happy with that.
  16. I think the infield is the one area where we don't have to worry. Sanchez looks solid at 3rd base, Anderson, Moncada and Abreu are all good solid players. Castilla looks to be a good signing. The front office should be spending their bucks to start to fill the future holes. The outfield is a mess. With Avi regressing, Engel not being able to hit a beachball, never mind a baseball and Delmonica stuttering, we probably have the worst outfield in the majors. Add onto that the struggles of the rotation and unless we think we are going to compete in 2019 or 2020, then save the money on Machado. When we do decide to pull the plug and spend, I reckon that we will need a centre fielder, a right fielder, a couple of solid experienced starters and some bullpen arms from either trade or free agency. Machado would be a luxury. The rebuild will take time and patience, a move for Machado goes against that.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 12:35 PM) If we get a prospect back for Volstad who appears even once in an MLB game, it will be a shocker. True but that is not the point of the move. The reason he is up is to eat innings. If we get anything for him, then it's a bonus. Volstad eating innings saves arms for the more valuable members of the pen, the ones that we can get something for. We have a young rotation, many of them won't go past 6 innings, that is a lot of innings for a bullpen to eat up, especially if No-Game James and Gonzalez go through a stretch of sucking ass.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 02:26 PM) Vieira, Rondon (already up), Stephens, Guerrero...even Adams and Fry will get shots before Volstad. If they go with vets, it will be Gomez or Ross, Jr., first. If he was ever going to make it, it was coming out of ST this year. Vieira may make sense as he is already on the 40 man. They may decide that he needs more time in AAA before promoting him. Guerrero and Fry are lefties (Fry is on the DL), I reckon we'd see Ross Jnr first if it was a lefty. We are already carrying 3 lefties in the pen, I can't see us carrying a fourth. Adams has never been above Birmingham, I suspect they want to see what he is like as a starter before exposing him to the pen, we are more likely to see him July onwards, after trades have been made. Stephens hasn't been above Birmingham, I suspect they want to see how he does in Charlotte before promoting him. Volstad may be in their minds because of his strong spring.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 01:40 PM) Not to be a dick, but Volstad is terrible and does not warrant a call up. I know he had a nice spring, but his role is to be the rubber arm in AAA and help protect us from having to use kids in unfavorable spots. I really don’t think he’s major league reliever material and I certainly don’t think you’ll get anything for him even if things go right because his upside is so low. I don't think he is major league material either. We are in a rebuild mode though, bringing him up could flick a switch for him. Who knows? The great spring could turn him into a few good innings as a reliever. He can't be worse than some of the donkeys we've had in the pen so far this year.
