  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) So LaRoche made no sense, but a guy who hit .140 with 22 strikeouts in 43 plate appearances and has traveled to Toro nto, LAD, Baltimore, and Seattle minor league systems the last year, did. Read the post. Wilkins to AAA ready to come up if there was an injury. Sign a proper DH. There was no reason to cut Wilkins, he had just hit for a ton of homers in AAA. Ok, he struggled when he first came up, look at Konerko, Konerko struggled when he came into the majors. Hit .217 with 40 strikeouts in 75 PA with the dodgers in his 1st season and .215 with 30 strikeouts in 49 plate appearances in his 2nd season. Wilkins showed power, we could have kept him around.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) LaRoche sucked but Andy Wilkins is a reach. He has been claimed on waivers by 4 or 5 teams since he left the Sox, and he was pitiful in his brief time in Chicago. Less than .400 OPS and struck out half his plate appearances. The LaRoche signing made sense. It isn't something that would hamstring you for a long time, and he had been pretty solid for a while. The La Roche signing didn't make sense. We went and got a good First Baseman, where we already had someone else incumbent in the position. The sense move would have been to have Wilkins still on the 40 man and playing in AAA in case Abreu went on the DL and Gillaspie as back up 1st baseman and bring in a proper DH such as Butler or Morales. The problem happened when Gillaspie had a poor year and La Roche had a poor year, then all of a sudden we were forced to release Gillaspie in order to bring up Saladino as we had no player on the roster with options as Bonaficio and Beckham wasting away in roster spots they had no right to be in. Our roster construction was flawed and La Roche was brought in to play a position that a) he didn't want to play and b) he had never played before. He suffered, we suffered and it all went to pot.
  3. What saddens me is that we could have probably gotten better production from Andy Wilkins at Salary minimum than La Roche at $8 million odd.
  4. Davidson, Avi and Webb. Get it done.
  5. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:17 AM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...te-adam-laroche That article does highlight the issue we have here. We have a guy, who is in a position that most teams have talent, who hit .207 with 14 homers and 44 RBI's and is getting paid $13 million. If you were a GM (not the Giants GM, because he paid $90 million for the Shark) would you trade anyone for that production. I wouldn't.
  6. I've got a sneaky feeling that Matt Davidson may be one of the pieces traded for Lawrie. Davidson and Beck for Lawrie is my theory.
  7. According to Bob Nightingale on Twitter. Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale · 20m20 minutes ago The #Whitesox shopping LaRoche, hoping to clear money for big bat I wonder if we can get anything for Adam Dunn MkII or will we have to package a prospect to get anything back. They must be desperate to get Upton
  8. I'd like to see us trade for either Norris or Lucroy.
  9. The bullpen is an oddity, it can be good one year and rotten the next, see Seattle for example. My theory is always keep it fresh. What would I do. I would keep Robertson as the Closer and use Nate Jones and Jake Petricka as the Set up men. I would use Zach Duke as the lefty and bring in another left in Free Agency and start Dan Jennings in AAA (back up). I would use Montas and Putnam to fill the other 2 slots. Montas and Putnam can be used in losing situations and Montas if we need a long man. (Webb can stay in AAA with Carroll and Jennings which gives us some flexibility if there are injuries). Overall the pen isn't too bad, a good lefty would round it out nicely as I think we were missing that at points last year.
  10. Hopefully he'll provide some Sparks to our failing offense
  11. Regarding Starting Pitching and starting pitching only, I think we have a solid base to build on and its probably the strength of the Organisation. If things remain as they are, we will probably run with Sale, Q, Danks, Rodon and Johnson as the rotation with Montas, Beck, Danish and Fulmer all close to coming in to challenge for a spot. To me we have a dilemma for this year. Do we trade away Q or move Danks into the Pen to give a better balance to the rotation and if this happens, do we bring up Montas or pick up a free agent like Scott Kazmir. I think the Sox will be strong for years to come with a good depth of starting pitching and I'm hoping that we don't strip this bare to supplement an ailing offense. I reckons that Starting pitching is our biggest strength at the moment
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Except it's kind of pointless to budget for something which has less than a 2% chance of happening. It's like expecting them to spend the money they were prepared to give Tanaka two offseasons ago. It's not pointless, it's good business sense. The money that they were prepared to give Tanaka two off-seasons ago ended up being spent last off-season. Just because the money wasn't spent immediately, it doesn't mean that it wasn't available. It was probably that money that paid for Melky. The Shark money will have been budgeted for and they will have a budget and a plan if Shark accepts or if he rejects. The $17 million is there for them to spend if the right player comes along, otherwise it will be there available for mid-season trades or the next offseason.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) Technically, we have $9.8 million freed up to sign a replacement....but there are other players getting increases as well so it probably amounts to $6-9 million per player to sign two new guys. Also depends if they're going to replace Alexei, but that's doubtful knowing the White Sox typical sentimental attachment to certain players. We have the Qualifying Offer amount freed up to spend on other players as that money will have been budgeted if the Shark accepts the Qualifying Offer. The money saved by not renewing other players etc would not have been factored into this. The Sox have to budget as if the Shark signs the QO which would give them $17 odd million (or whatever the QO is) to spend on the playing budget.
  14. The Shark has given up more earned runs than any other pitcher this year. Offer him the slot, bounce up and down and celebrate when he doesn't accept it. Get a supplementary draft pick and $17 million odd to sort out our weak areas and let EJ pitch for us next season. EJ can't be any worse than Shark was last year. Bye Shark, don't slam the door on the way out.
  15. Who is this guy, we've not seen him all season. He pitched well and with control, especially with his off-speed pitches. Its a shame the perfecto was broken up by a Kansas City Special
  16. QUOTE (spiderman @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) I doubt 18-9 would even be good enough. It may have to be 22-5 to have a shot and we know this team is much more likely to go 13-14, etc. in that stretch. This team would end up going 15-5 and put themselve in position for the last Wild card, then go 0-7 over the last week.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) By repeating this season He's not further damaging it. He's just re-enforcing that he is damaged stock and he'd be in the same situation at the end of next season.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) No it wouldn't. It's a no brainer to give him the QO. He'll either decline and the Sox will get a pick or he'll accept and the Sox can deal him or keep him all season and repeat the QO process. The only thing that doesn't make sense is not offering him a QO. I agree that it's a no brainer in offering him the Qualifying offer. I just have this bad feeling that he'll accept it which is what very few people want after this year's debacle of a season.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) 14 million next season with the chance to further damage your stock, as opposed to taking a multi year free agency deal? I dunno, I think he has been looking at his chance at free agency for a long time, and with how bad it has been on the Sox i really dont see him sticking around, How can he further damage his stock. He's given up 102 earned runs so far this season. No other starting pitcher has given up more. If you were a GM, would you want to give up a draft pick to sign Shark on a multi-year deal? I wouldn't. The smart thing for the Shark to do is to accept the QO and have a rebound year and try and get a good multi-year offer the following year, a year where Cueto, Price and Kazmir are not available without the cost of a draft pick. I have that sinking feeling that we are stuck with the Shark for another year and at a lot more money.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) If he dislikes cooper this much, it is highly doubtful that he accepts $14 million odd over one year says that he'll cope.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) It might be more like win/lose. Sox get to offer the QO and Shark bait rejects therefore the Sox get the comp pick, WIN! Shark hitting free agency with a comp pick attached after he s*** the bed in his last season before free agency that has numerous better pitching options, huge LOSS for Shark bait. From my Sox fandom perspective, Shark screwing himself over like he has would be its own compensation to the Sox for making a bad trade in the first place. Please let this all be true. Thinking back to sharks comments before the deadline, Kaplan just might be correct on this one. There is a worse scenario than that. If we offer Shark the Qualifying Offer and he accepts. Think about it, he is currently the worst pitcher in baseball (according to number of earned runs given up). He has given up more earned runs (200) than any other pitcher in all of baseball. Who in their right mind would give up a compensation pick and £10 million a year for the worst pitcher in baseball. The Shark is not stupid. By accepting the Qualifying Offer, he gives himself another year in the shop window to show what he can do and encourage teams to overpay for him. The market for starting pitchers is extensive this off-season and the Shark knows, he's not going to get anything near what he thinks he is worth, especially when you can get Price, Cueto or Kazmir without giving up a comp pick. The Sox will offer him a QO and I would not be surprised if he accepts it and we are lumbered with him for another year. That would be a LOSE / LOSE
  22. I'd be tempted to flap Adam Engel and Jordan Guerrero at them to see if they would bite for Upton. Both are top 20 prospects for us, neither would be killing the farm for a rental.
  23. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Adams may be the top pitching prospect in the system. He's not going to be used in a trade for Cargo. Tyler Danish is a more likely, and reasonable, price to pay. Danish, Thompson, and a low level guy would be a good offer. Also, I don't get why people are so hot to trade a 24 year old Avisail Garcia who is completing his first full year in MLB. He's the kind of player you keep. I fully agree with this. Too many on here are wanting to sell our future for either overpriced veterans or short term rentals. Any deal we make should not if possible include Adams, Fulmer, Montas or Anderson. We are finally building the farm up and people on here want to Kenny WIlliams it away for a player like Cargo. No thanks. We have no need to go for it at the moment unless its to get someone in that would cost us someone like Adam Engel or Leury Garcia. We definitely should not be including Avi for Cargo who is an overpaid player who is oft injured. No thanks. Look at the deals that the Angels have made. Low end prospects for under the radar outfielders who can fulfil a role on the team. We should be looking at the same or standing pat. We have a month to get it together and make a proper run at the Wild Card before the 25 man is expanded to 40 man.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) I assume Tampa, Baltimore, and Toronto have a lot of games left against each other. Unless they split them all evenly , somebody has to win a majority of those, which doesn't help. You could say the same about us, Detoit and Minnesota..... We'll see what happens. This team has the potential to pull it out of the bag, whether it will, we'll see..
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) The defense has improved some. Ramirez is back to being a good defender. Eaton has his head out of his butt, and Gillaspie is no longer on the field. The offense is a different story. They still have a tough time scoring, although they are starting to get more hits. It just seems everything stalls once guys get on base. I agree that the defense has improved but how long is it before we're back to the normal flubs and missed plays. The current defense and in particular both catchers don't inspire at all.
