Donn Roach starting ST game is current Chisox.com headline?
skooch replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Lol ... No thanks, you can keep him. Man, if there's a worse radio pbp guy in the world, I pity that fan base. -
Occam's Razor would suggest that the Sox FO is simply incompetent.

I wonder if this is getting all blown out of proportion. I'm sure Manny wanted to seem effusive in his praise and his excitement about SD during the press conference. He wanted to look "excited" for the hometown fans. I wonder if he didn't get a little carried away and inadvertently throw his "Friends and Family" under the bus. Either that or he's a d*uchebag. Too close to call, really ...

I told my 16yo baseball-playing ( and nominally White Sox fan) son about the Manny Machado fiasco, and his response was, "Wow. I forgot the White Sox existed."
-
Or will it be "5", the opt-out they didn't want to give?

Bryce Harper is currently in Chicago meeting with a “mystery team”... Quick, someone wake up Charles the Cat … On second thought, never mind.

But could you assign a maximum value? That is allow the comp to float but to max at a certain value. That would allow the luxury tax calculation based on the maximum being reached. Not sure if it's allowed, but it would be creative.

Over how many years? Presumably the eight that they guaranteed. That's less than $22MM per year for MM. Meanwhile, Jose Abreu, the 32 yo (officially), non-premium-position-playing, defensive butcher just got 16MM in arbitration. If what you suggest is accurate then we've skipped right past incompetent to delusional.

Ricky better watch out. Does PJ Fleck know anything about baseball? #RTB

Would the Sox have balked if Manny's agent approached them and said he wanted a five-year 150 million dollar deal? If the answer is no, then the player option at year five isn't really the issue. I suspect the real issue for MM was the vesting options in years 9 and 10.
-
I sincerely doubt that. I think Mr. Hahn (or a subordinate flunky) has been/is/will soon be lurking through these very pages. I doubt that any of this is really lost on him.
-
So 350MM was possible? Is that with 8 straight batting titles, AL MVP and World Series MVP awards? This seems a pretty disingenuous way to present your case.
-
This has to be fake.

It's a good thing we played the NL West last year or any games against SD in Chicago this year could turn into Disco Demolition night. But mark your calendar for March 5th and a SS game vs. the Friars.

Front page of MLB.com right now.... ooo la la

... alas, wherefore art thou, Ian Clarkin? Hast thou finally cleared waivers? -
Just listen to the contrition in his tone. To be fair, at least he's saying "if" now. Jeez, what an ass this guy is ...

One thing I've learned is that I ever become a high-powered sports agent I will hire an intern every year to monitor team message boards and send me details while I laugh hysterically at the conspiracy theories. This whole thing has been a major pain in the ass, but it has also provided moments of hilarity.

Good lord! Are you people still here? Yikes.

Cubs bringing in mystery partner for network

This would be stepping all over BTN. -

Jooc, what is the number of unique users that have visited soxtalk in the past year?

You could say it was Machado about nothing.

Is there a board rule against mentioning one's nards? If not, may I propose one?

It's like when you're a non-blue-blood basketball program and you're recruiting a player rated in the 30-75 range and you hear how much they love your program how they're your school's #1 priority and yet the commit just never seems to come. After a while it's apparent that you're just their fallback plan and they're just biding their time hoping for one of the elite schools to come calling. In this case the Sox have relegated themselves to this status and now have to live with it. But, it sure does suck ...
