Heyman says White Sox interested in Nelson Cruz
skooch replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Do we have any reason to believe that Palka is even serviceable at 1B? He hasn't played 1B since 2015. It's not hard to imagine him being a butcher on the infield. -
And the hits just keep on comin' ...

Am I the only person who thinks he's hitting tennis balls in that video? It sounds like a tennis match.

Dear FO: Harper VS Machado, Soxtalk Will Help You Decide
skooch replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This. My problem isn't with taking a chance. I just view that as a way to add one or two final pieces. I just don't think this team is anywhere near that and may not be for another two years. I think signing them now would be shortsighted and would ultimately be a mistake. But, YMMV. -

If you're the player it's fantastic. But why would the team want to offer such a contract? He's getting his huge payday plus you're writing him an insurance policy for free. Perhaps that's the way the market for superstar free agents works these days but I'll be amazed if the Sox choose to participate in it in this fashion. Also, I don't believe the Sox are close enough to contention where a 3/4 year opt out makes much sense for the team. He might be around at the beginning of the window but will almost certainly be gone shortly thereafter. I'll be very surprised if any of this happens. -

What's the point of front loading a contract and offering a player opt-out? Doesn't that just virtually guarantee that the player will exercise the option? I mean, at that point why even bother with the rest of the contract? It will only be realized if the player is injured or suddenly forgets how to play. -
If you refuse to swing, you WILL lead the league in K calls out of the zone. At some point, you need to acknowledge that umpires are expanding their zones with two strikes and not be so stubborn. You need to adjust to the way the game is being called.

And, FWIW, here is a similar analysis for the five K leaders for the Sox. Caveat emptor: I'm like a kid with a new toy. Results not guaranteed 100% accurate. Also, please note that I am getting 50 OOZ K's for Yoan whereas the original tweet only cited 49. SO K-swing K-look K-look-OOZ % K OOZ Moncada 196 124 72 50 69.44 Davidson 144 97 36 28 77.78 Anderson 135 116 15 13 86.67 Palka 130 102 25 13 52.00 Sanchez 115 78 24 19 79.17

According to Statcast, of the five, Moncada has the second lowest % of looking-K's that are OOZ. SO K-swing K-look K-look-OOZ % K OOZ Moncada 196 124 72 49 68.06 Taylor 152 100 52 35 67.31 Judge 132 89 43 35 81.40 Chapman 119 67 52 36 69.23 Trout 99 55 44 36 81.82

Yeah, but doesn't BAA exclude walks? It's still a measure of batter efficiency in official at-bats. Unless batters are expanding the zone because they are tired of walking ...

Grow up, man. These kids make squat for money too. I think it's actually fair to say that they make less than squat and live a pretty hard life in the minors. He's living out a dream and I admire him for chasing his dream. Best of luck, kid!

Giolito's perfect game thread. No? Too soon?

Soria traded for Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez.

45 BB in 103 IP ... he ought to fit right into the system. Although, in fairness, a 3.1X ERA as a 22yo in AA works for me. -

He was almost willing the ball to miss the strike zone so he could get that fourth walk. -
Nobody even mentions Fulmer anymore. I guess it's just a foregone conclusion.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:30 PM) I support this. Cody Asche is just a reminder to be patient and the new banner (and its focal points) will present itself when the time is right.....I also find it hilarious, but that's just my opinion. If you really want a reminder to be patient, how about having the Adams (Dunn & LaRoche) and Jeff Samardzija. This ought to really give pause to those who would want to hit the FA market and try to catch lightning in a bottle.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) I never said they didn't have to make a move to win post season. Go back and look. That was never the point I was trying to make. They don't have to do anything...yet. They can wait for more teams to fall out of contention and more options to be available. 10 game lead in standings...they'll wait a bit. Honest question: don't teams care at all about post-season seeding? Are they content to win the division by 8-10 games and finish with the fourth best record in the league?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) That scares me just a little bit more. He seems really immature. He needs a father figure to bring him along for sure. 225 twinkees in a week? Can't get him out of bed for practice? Trying to order 10 custom cars at once? Yikes. Perhaps this is splitting hairs, but it was"only" 85 Twinkles in a week.
