To echo/piggyback off your point, most of the regulars that came through the system are guys they acquired in the pre-rebuild fire sale. For all of the high draft picks spent during the rebuild, what do they have to show for it? The rebuild really was one single wave of players coming up around the same time. There was no pipeline of talent established through the tanking years, so they are basically where they were pre-rebuild- a patchwork of talent with no depth behind them and little margin for error if and when things go wrong. Maxed out, no depth, and simply not good enough to compete.
