  1. Except how do we build around him? How do we acquire foundational pieces to go with him? It is easy to say you don't want perpetual rebuilding. No one actually wants that. But building around him is a fools errand when the org refuses to do what it takes to actually build properly.
  2. If only he could hypnotize Jerry into selling, or spending. And himself into being able to evaluate talent.
  3. It's November, these are the types of moves they should be making. If he sucks or a roster spot is needed, he's an easy DFA. If he's any good, he's a flippable arm with control. Likely an inconsequential move, but nothing to be upset about.
  4. Making good hires on paper is fantastic. But he still assembled the worst team in modern baseball history believing it would be an improvement on the 101 loss team he took over. There is no sugarcoating how historically bad his roster decisions have been. He never should have been hired, and should have been fired at numerous points over the past year. His ineptitude will be forever etched in the record books, and nothing will ever erase that.
  5. Don’t think there’s any IF about it.
  6. Watch them dump Benintendi with Crochet and sign Verdugo thinking he's a name that will appease Sox fans.
  7. Hahahahaha sure. Maybe if we rewind to his days at Cal or get a special exception for the use of aluminum bats. This is a complete unknown. But sure, let's take it as fact. Two veteran FA at $15M? So two more Andrew Benintendi's? So you want to be not only bad, but also expensive and bad? Haven't we been here before? Jerry's desire to not spend supersedes his preference to not lose 100. In other words, he's just fine losing 100 if he gets to continue to be cheap. Echo and Monte? Just, wow. Maybe getting the names of players correct would help you be taken more seriously. Also, unless Venable has a Bobby Witt Jr up his sleeve, there is no magically repeating what KC did in 2024. There is zero path to contention through free agency for the Chicago White Sox with the current owner and front office. Zero. But please, keep on spouting about your non-existent plan...
  8. Texas swept the season series in 2024, but only one game was a blowout. Maybe he thought the Sox played them tough? IDK.
  9. That sounds better, but is it any better? That's still a lot of vague generalities that don't really mean anything, and feel just as fluffy to me.
  10. Maybe he did think they brought energy, but just completely lacked the talent to compete? They did lose a s%*# ton of close games because they couldn't score or hold leads.
  11. What else is he supposed to say? They sucked ass and I said yes cuz I was sick of waiting for Bochy to retire? Of course he's going to be complimentary of his new team. I would take answers like that with a grain of salt.
  12. I could see a team take a flyer on him on a 1 year prove it deal. But him staying healthy and proving it seems pretty unlikely.
  13. Him not playing at all down the stretch was the telltale sign. Declining the option was simply a formality.
  14. IDK, maybe wait until the official announcement. Don't wanna be premature after all.
  15. The sentence of his you quoted is valid though. But your response, if taken at face value, would actually contribute to continued losing. Venable may not move the needle immediately, or at all, but it isn't keeping the incompetent boop in the dugout actively losing games.
  16. I think we are smart enough to recognize that Grifol was so inept that he actively contributed to the losing and absolutely needed to go, while also acknowledging that Venable looks like a solid hire that breaks the mold of standard White Sox M.O. And also that no managerial hire alone will lift a 120 loss team devoid of talent back to contention. All of these things can simultaneously be true.
  17. The general consensus seems to be he’s a solid hire, and his resume speaks to that. I don’t envy the challenge ahead though. Getz seems to be able to hire people more competent than himself, but that sure doesn’t make up for his lack of talent evaluation. Venable’s fate will ultimately be in the hands of the very GM who constructed the worst baseball team of the modern era, working for the worst owner in the game. I wish him luck, but holy s%*# will the deck be stacked against him.
  18. Lets see how much autonomy he has to hire his own staff... Still, I'm pleasantly surprised its not Nevin.
  19. It's hard to squint and even see several major leaguers on the whole roster.
  20. Was there buzz about this hire that I missed? Edit - I get what you're saying, but it's hard to kill expectations when expecting them to make the worst choice amongst all of the shitty options. It's more of a resigned acceptance.
  21. Launching an app at that price with interest in the team so low is something. It makes the decision to not give them money even easier.
