Not one bit. But the Ms had to do something to address their offensive woes, and didn’t have to dip into their top ten to do it. Hopefully they aren’t done adding (cough cough Luis Robert).
How much good is Andrew Benintendi doing for this roster right now? Because that is the type of free agent this organization signs. A roster full of C and D level FA is already the worst team in franchise history, and is on pace to be one of the worst teams in Major League baseball history.
The only context I can think of is if a player has a no trade clause and leverages an extension with the new team as a condition of agreeing to the trade. Crochet has no real leverage here though. I get him wanting to have a say in how he is used for the rest of the season and in the future, but he is under contract either way.
It is certainly a potential monkey wrench. And what happens when the team who acquires him calls his bluff? He's still under contract for 2 more seasons so its not like a team risks losing him this winter.
Seriously, adding FA pieces now would be horribly premature. We all want to watch star players on our team, but there is no foundation yet. What does adding a Juan Soto do for a likely 120 loss team when there is absolutely nothing surrounding him nor anything in the upper minors?
Nah, we can judge now, as we could when he looked like a deer in headlights at his intro presser. Never fear though, he'll get many an offseason/draft/deadline to f*** up over and over.
Julio isn't going anywhere, but it's absurd to put him in the same sentence with those names. He's payed almost as many games in 2+ seasons as Robert has in 4 & 1/2. Julio's career WAR is nearly identical in half the service time as well
