  1. Sure, but we aren't making semantic arguments about the future value of a dollar. For all intents and purposes, deferring 680 million dollars isn't taking less money because he wants to win
  2. I have to imagine this loophole will be remedied in the next CBA, not that many teams are going to be willing to take such a massive hit after the contract expires. As for competitive balance, we pay to watch the players play, not for the the owners make a massive profits. Ownership could and should pay up to make baseball more competitive, but we know that isn't reality.
  3. He's not taking less money though. Him deferring the majority of it isn't taking less, it's simply kicking the can down the road so the Dodgers build a superteam (aka win) during his contract. I personally want more competitive balance across baseball so part of me really hopes this bites them in the ass after he's done.
  4. Is there a window and door company named Championship Windows doing work at Sox Park? Cuz that's as close as any of these guys are gonna get.
  5. To get out of that awful contract. Even if he's plays well next season, why not let someone else deal with the back end of the deal? Especially for a penny pinching org like the Sox. It's not like light hitting mediocre left fielders are hard to come by.
  6. Yup, none of these acquisitions are long term pieces. If any of them are playing well and are desirable deadline pieces, flip them for prospect depth.
  7. And that’s a lot of IF’s. Far too many variables to bank on going right. Getz has made a good show of fumigating, but the roster is still devoid of impact talent. Nothing he has done so far has significantly improved a 100 loss team.
  8. Nah, they’re still losing 100+, they just won’t look like total clown shoes on defense. Offense however…
  9. I was never really worried about them. Jays are at least a playoff team, and The Dodgers are the Dodgers. After years of non-competitive Angels teams no way he was going somewhere that couldn’t win right away.
  10. Dodgers get Ohtani, and seems he gets paid for years after this deal is up.
  11. Ohtani going to Toronto would have been so great for the game. Oh well. Dodgers winning out should come as no surprise.
  12. It's 2024, not 1954. It is an incredibly stupid rule and always has been. Baseball is an international game that attracts players from all over the world. Requiring men from other nationalities and cultures to adhere to an antiquated "clean cut" standard is problematic to say the least.
  13. I don’t doubt that this all plays into it. I’ve heard that quote a few times and it makes perfect sense, and shows just how disconnected he is from the realities of modern baseball. The way the Royals won is the outlier, not the blueprint. At least not one any sensible baseball executive would follow. The business environment JR wants to thrive in doesn’t exist, yet his myopic insistence that their way is the right way keeps him from finding regular postseason success. It’s all so maddening. And we the customer are held hostage by the continual backwards thinking that cripples this team year in and year out.
  14. Embittered Sox fans aren’t simply going to latch onto a suburban expansion team. It’s not that simple. But trolling Sox fans is his schtick now, no matter how often his bullshit is debunked.
  15. Google suggests a 5/80 projection, which seems off to me as he opted out of the 3/49 left on his Detroit deal. I didn’t dig very deep though.
  16. 5/80 is what I’m seeing, but he opted out of 3/49, so that number doesn’t seem right.
