So 4 top 100s, including a top 10 and top 50? How many teams could actually do that? And how many of those teams are in a position to give that up and still be a competitive? Its a price few could and or would pay. I'm not saying the Sox should or shouldn't trade him while they are abysmal, it's just hard for me to see a team being willing to pay the price. Or the Sox actually getting adequate value for his 4 remaining years of cost control.

A competent org helps him analyze what went wrong with his slider, and if the velo loss is permanent, helps him pitch over that. Or teaches him new ways to attack hitters with a reduced FB. Acting like 2023 Cease is who he will be going forward is silly. Will he be 2022 again? Who knows, but I think its just as likely he is better in 2024 and is closer to the Cy Young candidate we saw in '22.

Yet every reputable source says Cease is in high demand and should bring back a haul, and while that is a nebulous statement, I choose to believe the people in the know. Sox fans have been in an abusive relationship with this ownership group for 40 years. So many of us are just done with the bullshit. New ownership is desperately needed before fan interest completely dies. It feels like we are already on that precipice too.

Correct. Picking 5th this year really bones them. For example, Washington actually landed the top pick in the lottery but was ineligible b/c they picked top 6 last draft, so they pick 10th. The Sox look to be worse in 2024 but can pick no higher than 10th because they landed top 6. It really is the worst case scenario for a team desperate for young talent.

An FA signing window might be interesting. From the World Series ending to the GM meetings, teams can only talk to their own FA. GM meetings to Winter Meetings team can negotiate w/ any FA or discuss trades not sign/trade yet. Winter Meetings until mid-Jan is the signing period. After Jan 15 teams can still sign MiLB deals or Spring Training invites or something along those lines.

Completely agree. Even in a down year on a shitty team, he still showed his worth. The notion some are floating that he’s tarnished and not worth much in trade is absurd.
