  1. The general consensus seems to be he’s a solid hire, and his resume speaks to that. I don’t envy the challenge ahead though. Getz seems to be able to hire people more competent than himself, but that sure doesn’t make up for his lack of talent evaluation. Venable’s fate will ultimately be in the hands of the very GM who constructed the worst baseball team of the modern era, working for the worst owner in the game. I wish him luck, but holy s%*# will the deck be stacked against him.
  2. Lets see how much autonomy he has to hire his own staff... Still, I'm pleasantly surprised its not Nevin.
  3. It's hard to squint and even see several major leaguers on the whole roster.
  4. Was there buzz about this hire that I missed? Edit - I get what you're saying, but it's hard to kill expectations when expecting them to make the worst choice amongst all of the shitty options. It's more of a resigned acceptance.
  5. Launching an app at that price with interest in the team so low is something. It makes the decision to not give them money even easier.
  6. On one hand, TLR shooting down the speculation that Jerry is interested in selling to a Stewart led group with ties to Nashville is a positive. One the other, it means Jerry isn't selling in the near future, and will continue to destroy his own franchise from within. So, yeah.
  7. Required Qualifications: A): Will work for Jerry at below market rates. B): See A.
  8. He'd be better off staying with the Guards. Both of these teams are dumpster fires, and the Sox job is a career killer.
  9. A .250ish(?) hitter with a little pop at 1B is not a good player. He's no gold glover either. Non-tender him and move on.
  10. " It’s worth mentioning that McCullough is also thought to be a contender for the White Sox’s current managerial opening. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score called him “a leading candidate” for the role in September, although his name was noticeably absent from Heyman’s list of “leading candidates” published earlier this week."
  11. Showalter must be absolutely desperate to want to come here. But is he enough of a yes-man? I can't see Jerry signing off on someone they can't control absolutely, which, if memory serves, isn't Showalter. I still expect them to announce Nevin or some first timer.
  12. Why hasn't anyone thought up outfield swimming pools? *That's* what GRF is missing!
  13. Someone also hasn't been to Bridgeport in a while. Silly/offensive I tells ya.
  14. How many years did they refuse to pay the luxury tax while leading the league in attendance? Jerry has cared more about getting his revenue sharing free money than fielding winning teams for two decades. Different orgs, same JR.
  15. So they are calling themselves 'research & development' so they can hide from JR & TLR, right? No use of data under the new watch, boss, strictly old fashioned "scouting" and TWTW...
  16. There is just something really sad about rebranding your analytics department. Or needing to rebrand your analytics department.
  17. Ah, I pay so little attention to sports radio that I assumed Parkins was still with the Score.
