  1. I would venture a guess that they were making indedendent "craft beer" before you even knew the term. Yes they were better before they were bought out but damn dude. Look at how many craft brews are available at Sox Park. I'm not even the biggest Goose Island fan but there's no reason to shit all over a local brand repping our Sox across the city.
  2. This is true. And I appreciate that the brand is still around and reps Chicago. I love the branding & design on this offering and I will definitely give it a try at the park this summer. But they have a long way to go to beat out Lagunitas, Revolution, or Three Floyds for local breweries IMO.
  3. I always felt they were much better before they were bought out by Bud or whatever corporate overlord owns them now. Now I find their offerings to be pretty Meh as well.
  4. As the roster stands today, the biggest need IMO is a backup SS/3B capable of adequate D if or when a starter needs an IL stint. RF platoon, pen arms, 4th OF will probably all come internally.

    LOL

Has Bunt Renteria met himself? ?
  6. It would also take the Cubs sucking for a long while, and the generation that grew up on free superstation WGN games to become disillusioned + the Cubs network flopping, and Wrigley pricing itself out of being a cash cow tourist trap. I will be happy with a long run of Sox playoff appearances and being on post season television screens and Sox Park being filled every fall. There are enough eyeballs for the Sox to be a draw w/o having to overtake the daily wrigelyville frat party.
  7. Mendick sported a .968 fielding % in 131 games at SS in BHam in 2018 vs a .994 in 42 games at Charlotte in 2019. .971 in 325 games at SS in total. Can play SS vs play well vs do we want him filling in on the left side of the infield if someone needs an IL stint? Sox probably look for a veteran UTIL.
  8. I love me some Leury, but yeah, he really shouldn't be counted on as more than an emergency fill in at SS. Mendick's fielding % at SS & 3B in the minors isn't so hot either.
  9. If Avi had repeated his 2017 I have no doubt that the Sox would have paid his Arb #. He was clearly injured most of 2018 and his play reflected that. Add that to his injury history and his Arb #, non-tendering him was the right move. Giving flash-in-the-pan-Palka a longer look in a rebuilding year probably didn't factor into the decision. It was clear that it was time to move on from Avi.
  10. Your love of Yolmer is renown (??), but I have seen enough of his bat to not want him pinch hitting in a big spot or pressed into service if a starter needs an IL stint. Nor do I trust RR to not over play him as a back up.
  11. His BA (I know its not the end all be all) the past two years concerns me in a PH role. And his literal lack of innings on the left side of the infield questions his utility role. If the FO sees a fit, cool, but seems like a odd fit to me.
  12. Dozier had some astonishing HR numbers not too long ago, but overall his numbers aren't that good in recent years. Add that to the fact that he hasn't played anywhere but 2B since his rookie year in 2012 and I find it difficult to see a fit. Not sure I buy this rumor.
  13. After the debacle that was 2011, Robin always felt like a sort of fan-service, polar opposite of Ozzie, look how smart this FO is kind of hire. And it almost worked for a season. But after the collapse of 2012, if the Sox manager were anyone other than beloved player turned not very good manager Robin Ventura, he would have been replaced. Instead the FO gave Robin shit roster in 2013 and gave him no chance to succeed in the subsequent years by half-assed "retool" rebuilding. And we all know how that turned out.
  14. 4/$92M for a 34y/o. Hope the back end bites them in the ass.
  15. Damns. If the ball is as juiced that offense will be tough. Pitching is still a problem but thy will score plenty of runs.
