I think RR goes with something like this to start. TA (until Robert is acclimated) Yo Abreu (we know is will happen) EE Grandal Eloy Mazara Robert Madrigal I would go Robert Yo Eloy Grandal Abreu EE Mazara TA Madrigal Lots of speed and power up top, good mix with the power guys in the middle, and speed at the bottom setting the table for the top again.

How good do YOU think we can be next season?
Tnetennba replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If more things break right than not, I believe 90 wins is within reach. Whether or not that has them in the chase for the division or a wild card I don't know. But I'm optimistic and think we are in for a fun ride in 2020. -
Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos

Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos
Tnetennba replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kopech has thrown 14.1 innings in the bigs to a tune of a 5.02 ERA before going on the DL. His camp really has no claim to a big league roster spot after a year+ injury rehab. He would have a real case had he been up for a whole season but thats just not the case. -
Remove his first two years in the Bigs where he looked like an Allstar phenom and he looks pretty average. Now divorce yourself from his name, and Cuban, and HYPE, and you have a pretty average to mediocre baseball player for the last 5 years. Now add back in all of the stories about clubhouse issues, etc, and you have a Name greater than the player, who no one is really knocking down his door to sign. That also is a poor platoon split in RF with what is already on the roster. PASS.

I think they roll with Leury and Engel until Madrigal and Robert are up, backed up by guys they can send back down or easily cut. I don't see them bringing Yolmer back for that. There's already a bit of a roster crunch with Collins and Yolmer would only add to that.
-
This. He isn't good. Yet people still think it's 5 years ago and he somehow *hasnt* proven to be a mediocre player not worth the headache.
-
I know he is limited, but I love me some Leury. I'm ok with him being Mazara's platoon partner if they can't/don't find someone better.
-
Puig has had how many chances to prove he is more than a flash in the pan hot name rookie? 2 teams and 5 years later he has more red flags than teams interested? No Thanks.

Assuming EE & Grandal cover backup 1B, a bench of: Leury UTIL Engel 4th OF McCann backup C Backup INF (?) Not much room on the bench unless they only carry 12 pitchers.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

I am 100% not ok going into the season with Collins as the 2nd Catcher. Signing EE does in no way shape or form make McCann expendable. I have faith that Collin's bat could be an asset at DH going forward, but I have seen nothing to convince me that he is capable of handling the Catching duties in the bigs for 60+ important games in pursuit of a Wild Card or the Central Division.

She is Caitlin now whether you like or not. You don't get to decide her history. The subtle transphobia deserved to be called out as well.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Tnetennba replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Considering what was left on the market, this is an excellent move. I wanted Keuchel after the QO expired so I am quite happy. -
Sox played near .500 ball before the ASB last season before injury and lack of depth caught up. And that was before any of the new additions. I too think they are aiming much higher than .500.
-
I know its more complicated than simply outscoring your opponents every night. But those early 2000s Sox clubs sure lost a lot of high scoring games and sat home every October.
-
Sox were 9th worst in Runs Scored in 2019. 7th worst in Runs Allowed, and 7th worst in Run Differential. Every playoff team except Milwaukee had a run differential over +100. Does that line up make up for the Sox -124 run differential to even get above water? Tough hill to climb with half of a major league starting rotation.
-
If EE wants to come to the Southside to be a good soldier part time DH on a cheap 1 year deal, cool. If not, cool, no loss.
-
They played nearly .500 ball before the ASB when injury and lack of depth caught up to them. Played pretty decent down the stretch too. Looked poised to make some timely additions in the offseason. Not sure if anyone really thought playoff contention was realistic coming into this offseason. But .500+ and fighting for a Wild Card should be within the realm of possibilities if the FO could or would add meaningful pieces.
-
A+ for turning team friendly contracts into high end prospects. C for the draft. D for scouting. D in trades. D-/F in player development. F in free agency (execution and approach). F for adding meaningful long term pieces to the rebuild outside of the draft. Rick Hahn works within some ownership level constraints that do tie his hands so he can't be blamed entirely. I don't know if a different GM would be different or better, But other franchises operate under similar financial constraint/limitations but seem to have more success in these areas.

Such an uninspiring move. Is this the best they could accomplish?
