Sports Illustrated this month has a story on robot umpires that are coming soon. Things like what Rosenberg did make me wish it was coming into play Thursday.

Got my print edition of Sports Illustrated this afternoon in the mail. It is the baseball preview. They aren't high on the Sox giving them 76 wins and calling out everything they didn't do this past off season. In the same issue there is a long feature story on the Padres explaining how they are able to spend the money they are for a "small market" team and asking the question with baseball making so much money, why won't other teams do the same.
-
It's actually his second spring injury. He's only had six at-bats all spring.

A decent start would go a long way to helping the fan base think this season will be different and it is possible although 10 of the first 13 are on the road. Personally I don't think they'll be playing all those road games because of weather in Pittsburgh and Minnesota. Just put yourself in a position where games in August/September mean something, have a winning record at the very least. Anything over that is gravy.

I was told it was none of the individuals/organizations you listed but a person in the front office. I'm not at liberty to disclose the name.
-
Did you see the diagram they put out where multiple ticket prices were listed for individual rows? Talk about confusing...I saw a comment from a fan where they said it looked like something a kid in kindergarten drew up. As others have posted the best way to maximize revenue is to win. Although (and this is another discussion topic I realize) with MLB a 10 billion dollar industry I don't think any team is hurting financially what with the multiple income streams both domestically and internationally.
-
The other thing may be, the very bizarre and convoluted new ticket pricing system. I was told that was rammed though without a lot of input from people in the front office.

Supposedly this is a minor injury and more than likely it is, but as DVS of the Sun-Times pointed out in his story tonight on this, last year when Moncada got hurt the last week of spring training, the Sox said that was "minor" as well. He was out until May.
-
That's just recently, if you go back to the start of his tenure (say Keppinger for example) he's wasted a lot more than that. Although to be fair Hahn doesn't make these decisions in a vacuum. Kenny's still involved and the Sox talent evaluation people make recommendations at both the major and minor league level. They need to be held accountable too.

It is an unusual contract though and the Sox have a clause in it that can space out payments. Don't know all the details, simply saying there are no guarantees, although if he is back by May/June (as many are speculating) that could end the uncertainties one way or the other: "His contract had an unusual twist, perhaps the first of its kind in baseball. The fourth year of the deal had an option year, worth 15 million but included a 15-million-dollar buyout. If the White Sox declined the option, the buyout would be paid in 10 equal installments between 2024 and 2033. The paying of money down the road, something NFL teams often do, could help with the ‘luxury tax’ threshold should the Sox be in that position where it becomes an issue." The ability to space out the payments could be a factor in the decision making process depending on what JR says the team payroll will be in 2024. Hard to say anything for sure right now, just that the option could come into play because of the way the contract is written. And that's assuming JR is still running the club in 2024.

Very good question. Although they have two or three guys who will probably be leaving (Giolito? Lynn? Hendriks?)
-
Yet the owner who throws nickels around like they are manhole covers, hasn't fired Hahn for his incompetence.
-
Surprised but very happy the Sox cut this stiff.

Why are we not surprised? LOL. ?

Forbes: White Sox break $2 billion mark, rank 15th

Well said. -
Saw today when Adam Engel suffered his second injury this spring yesterday for the padres. It is a hamstring again for him . Not expected to be ready for opening day, he's only had six at-bats all spring.

March 25, 2021 – Injuries can happen at any time, but needless injuries, in spring training to boot, can take the heart right out of a club, the fanbase and completely change the fortunes of a season. On this day the White Sox announced that Eloy Jimenez, one of the best young sluggers in baseball would be lost for most of the season, because of a ruptured left pectoral tendon. He suffered the injury when getting hung up on the top of the fence trying to catch a ball hit by the A’s Sean Murphy the day before, a ball that wasn’t catchable. Sox broadcaster Steve Stone was particularly critical of Jimenez even attempting to try to catch a meaningless home run in a spring training game and putting himself at risk. Since getting called up in 2019, Jimenez had been injured multiple times when dealing with trying to play left field. His injury was more common in football and most likely happened on impact when his left arm hit the top of the fence. After an intensive rehab lasting four months, he returned to the team on July 26 but injury issues continued to dog him.

With Opening Night less than a week away and with a number of key guys away for the WBC I hope the Sox manager starting Saturday will start running out his regular season lineup and start getting these guys some work together as a unit.

Update from the person who started the project: "Also forgot we donated $1200 to charity, with $600 (and all T-shirt proceeds) going to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and $600 going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Liam Hendriks honor."

It worked for J.C. Martin who started as a third baseman. Wound up having a long big league career because of it.

Yoan Moncada vs. Gordon Beckham - first 650 games

Just based on his salary deserved or not (probably not) he is not going to be a "bench player." -

JR wants to win, but...he wants to win his way under his terms and conditions. -
Cease, TA7, Robert, Giolito, Jimenez make ESPN Top 100

In Vaugh's case I just hope he can play a full season and not burn out the last few months as he's done in the past. -
I wouldn't take Nightengale's word for anything regarding things like this. He's the only media guy JR talks to. You have to consider the source.

No Vaughn.
