  1. Detailed breakdown of the new rules for next season. (And remember they go back to no longer having a ghost runner for extra inning games as well): https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-2023-rule-changes-pitch-timer-larger-bases-shifts
  2. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2022/9/9/23345148/mlb-will-recognize-minor-league-players-union
  3. Can you tell us where you saw it? (TV station, web site?)
  4. It would have tied the team record set by among others Hank Steinbacher, Floyd Robinson and Lance Johnson. That's off the top of my head.
  5. Great way to start the series...now let's just hope they don't do what happened the last time they scored in double figures, last Saturday 13 runs...Sunday, one. Need to keep the pressure on.
  6. If it reduces the impact bad umpires have like Angel Hernandez, the retired Joe West C.V. Bucknor and their ilk I absolutely have no issues with having it.
  7. Now that the Metrodome is gone it is. Something like 2-12 counting the post season the past few years.
  8. I don't have an issue with banning shifts totally.
  9. I'm waiting for the automated ball/strike electronic system. Last I saw the umpires union agreed to it but MLB said it is still a few years away. Can't come to soon in my opinion.
  10. Three of them expected to pass with no issues: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-set-to-implement-rule-changes-for-2023-including-a-pitch-clock-per-report/
  11. Unfortunately that's true, I think they've lost over 25 games this year to teams that have a losing record right now. 10 of those to the Royals, which is amazing.
  12. Jeff Torborg told me it was the most unhappy press conference he ever saw when they announced his formal hiring.
  13. I think they are 37 games under but you have a valid point.
  14. Don't know anything about the A's starting pitcher tonight but he's 5-1 with an ERA of 2.3...for a team that's 37 games under .500 That got my attention and I hope it got the Sox players attention as well.
  15. I've said for the past few years among the most dysfunctional areas of this team is the medical, training and conditioning staffs.
  16. Possibility TLR will join the Sox in Oakland for Dave Stewart's jersey retirement ceremony. A's planned the event for when the Sox are in town. TLR still has a home in the Bay Area but he'd need to get permission from doctors to fly from Phoenix.
  17. Another very interesting comment tonight to DVS of the Sun-Times, read into it what you will: There are certain calls, whether they go our way our that way, our dugout’s reaction is something we haven’t been doing all year,” Hendriks said, “and is something now everyone is getting more into. The reaction to every single play, every single pitch, every kind of at-bat, whichever way it goes.”
  18. I read recently in one of the mainstream media stories the thought is Colas could get called up next May (service time issues) Till then and remember the Sox have 10 of the first 14 on the road, I have no idea what they'll do but you can't get buried early.
  19. It's been so frustrating because they have lost so many games to teams with bad records headed up by the Royals. Over the course of a 162 game season you're going to lose some games to bad teams but man the Sox have lost a bunch of them and it's really hurt them.
  20. Just some random thoughts from today: Ugly, ugly game but a win is a win, three straight series wins now, something they simply have to do from here on out. They have no more wiggle room. Bummer has been on the IL (yet again) for over two months, he finally gets off it and promptly lives up to his name. For a guy who supposedly has unhittable stuff he sure gives up runs. People overlook the fact the Sox gave him a big money deal and he's not living up to it in my opinion. 3-8 RISP, not bad especially for the Sox and also three extra base hits. Don't know what to make of Kopech's performance today. He was sailing along and then...I don't know what the numbers say but my impression is that he's bitten by a big inning a lot. granted in the 4th the usual Sox defense showed up. On to Oakland where the Sox have struggled even against horrid A's teams for lord knows how long. Have to win at least two games...at least. 13 more wins for a "winning" season...I know, that's some comedown from a "World Series contender" isn't it?
  21. Just playing Devil's Advocate, the Sox have had a hole in right field for the last several seasons. How did they try to fill it? Nomar Mazara and Adam Eaton. No guarantees they'll do anything to try to correct the situation in 2022 off season.
  22. The scary thing is, knowing this organization, if they only finish a few games out, they'll use injuries and a shortened spring training as a crutch to basically have the same unit try again next year, which would be year four of this contention window (and most folks feel the window is only going to be open for six years barring new ownership)
  23. I found this line in DVS's story interesting: As one team source told the Sun-Times recently, everyone from the players to the coaching staff to the front office felt ‘‘drained’’ by the climate surrounding a team that had World Series aspirations in spring training, as well as its record.
  24. I'm guessing Sully is being facetious based on his other columns basically ripping the Sox for hiring him in the first place.
