What are you looking forward to this off season
Lip Man 1 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am looking forward to new ownership somehow this off season. -
How could they possibly be worse? Although I wouldn't consider it much of an improvement if they lost 110 games instead of 121. That's still being a laughingstock. Nothing really changes until ownership does.

Because he knows he isn't getting one! 😆 Talk is cheap Jerry...put your money where your mouth is.

They speak for themselves: The numbers across the board were absolutely atrocious but I wanted to point out a few areas in particular. The offense was dismal but it’s never been this bad and I’ve been keeping this stat for several years now. The White Sox scored three runs or less in an astounding 105 games! 105 games out of 162 played. That’s 64.8% of all games! You can’t win anything when you simply can’t score runs. And you are giving your pitchers simply no room for error (which the Sox defensively made a huge number of but that’s a different story. Another mind-blowing statistic. The Sox won only two games when trailing in the 7th inning or later. TWO…the entire season. April 27 vs. Tampa Bay. Sox scored two in the last of the 10th to win 8-7. September 24 vs. Angels. Sox scored three in the 8th to win 3-2. On the other side of the coin the Sox bullpen was hideous, a complete dumpster fire. 27 times the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later…and lost the game! 12 times they lost the lead in the 7th inning 9 times they lost the lead in the 8th inning 3 times they lost the lead in the 9th inning 3 times they lost the lead in the 10th inning As far as when these happened? Here is the breakdown and the pitcher or pitchers responsible: March 30 vs. Detroit (7th) Leone/Hill April 7 @ Kansas City (7th) Garcia April 10 @ Cleveland (10th) Shaw April 17 vs. Kansas City (8th) Kopech April 23 @ Minnesota (9th) Wilson April 30 vs. Minnesota (8th) Leasure May 24 vs. Baltimore (8th) Kopech May 31 @ Milwaukee (7th) Soroka/Brebbia June 1 @ Milwaukee (7th) Anderson/Leasure June 4 @ Cubs (8th) Leasure June 5 @ Cubs (7th) Soroka/Schuester June 9 vs. Boston (9th) Banks June 10 @ Seattle (8th) Kopech June 11 @ Seattle (7th) Brebbia June 20 vs. Houston (7th) Wilson July 6 @ Miami (7th) Soroka July 7 @ Miami (9th) Kopech July 8 vs. Minnesota (7th) Leasure July 21 @ Kansas City (7th) Anderson July 22 @ Texas (9th) Brebbia July 29 vs. Kansas City (8th) Wilson/Brebbia July 30 vs. Kansas City (8th) Ellard/Anderson August 7 @ Oakland (7th) Toussaint/Leone August 14 vs. Yankees (7th) Leone August 26 vs. Detroit (7th) Shuester September 18 @ Angels (8th/11th) Anderson/Kuel September 22 @ San Diego (8th) Ellard The pitcher breakdown totals. In games where multiple pitchers were responsible each pitcher got charged with a ½: Kopech-4 Leasure-3 ½ Brebbia- 3 Anderson- 2 ½ Leone-2 ½ Wilson- 2 ½ Soroka- 2 Ellard- 1 ½ Schuester- 1 ½ Banks- 1 Garcia- 1 Shaw- 1 Hill- ½ Kuel- ½ Toussaint- ½ The White Sox also used a record 63 players this year.

DVS of the Sun-Times with the story. Some interesting parts of it; ‘‘I’m OK with it,’’ Nicky Lopez said. ‘‘It is what it is. Your career is going to go on, whether it’s here next year or somewhere else. The thing about this sport is it takes 26-plus people; it’s not one person.’’ Rest assured, Lopez isn’t accepting defeat and isn’t OK with losing 121 games. Responsibility for this disaster of a season reaches well above the players’ level. Every Sox player, coach and member of the front office and ownership shares in the infamy. Lopez simply accepts the reality, knowing it was a team loss." ‘‘The way the White Sox lost was too drastic, they were a solid contender, but they gave away the farm and were getting blown out. The [general manager] should be fired.’’ --1962 Mets pitcher Craig Anderson. https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/09/28/it-is-what-it-is-is-common-take-from-white-sox-on-record-for-losses-whatever-it-was-it-wasnt-good

True when he was in Little league in Maryland where Veeck was living.
-
I think they also had it in 1970 or 1971. They took a kid named Danny Goodwin, a catcher if I remember right.
-
Not when they offer him the position for next year. 😆

Agree. I'd take some past Sox seasons (63,64,65,72,77,90) for example in a heartbeat even though they didn't make the post season. Those were damn good teams.

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Lip Man 1 replied to Paulie4Pres's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a well written story by Fegan: https://soxmachine.com/2024/09/white-sox-seal-shameful-place-in-history-with-121st-loss/ Regarding Lightfoot's comments if she is as big of a Sox fan as she claims to be she'd know Sox fans could give a rat's ass what Jerry's ethnic background is...just that he is a terrible owner who has destroyed the franchise because he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and his arrogance knows no bounds. -
Not when they name Sizemore the manager for next year.
-
Given how he has been honestly critical of the organization I can't say I'm surprised.

Picked up a book for my Sox library titled "Sox" by the late Bob Vanderberg who was one of the associate sports editors at the Tribune. He also wrote some great books on the 1959 team and the Sox battles with the Yankees in the 1950's and 1960's. He was a huge Sox fan. For this book which originally came out in 1982 he scored an interview with JR and I was struck by his comments. My how times have changed: "What you have to do is develop a team that contends every year. I want to contend every year. I don't want to have ups and downs." "We're going to be significant increasing our investments in the farm system. In the long run my feeling is that to be a contender every year you have to develop you own players. You can't do it in the free agent market and you can't do it through trades. You can try to fill a gap that way. But a winning team takes 25 guys and most of them you have to develop. So were gonna be spending our money on the farm system."
