She attended the game and then when introduced, Rivera said, “I’m sure sorry my home run beat your club but it was a helluva wallop eh, Bess?” and that catch he made in Game #5 of the 1959 World Series saving the Sox 1-0 win over Sandy Koufax is one of the greatest catches in World Series history. Over the shoulder after a long run against a murderous background of all white shirts and dresses. R.I.P. to a guy who played the game hard...VERY hard.

Someone has to eat innings if he even makes the team. No problem either way since the Sox aren't contending next year.

The most important thing I took out of the year, took place off the field of play. The fact that the Sox front office committed themselves to a plan and did everything they could to start down that specific highway was huge. That was the big deal, that has started everything. Where it all ends up, nobody knows right now, these are the White Sox after all but for now the future appears very bright.

I think any team that hired Ventura would be making a mistake. Just my opinion. Under him the Sox could barely execute fundamentals, there were clubhouse issues and the handling of his bullpen's were often comical. I'd hope he would have gotten better through his experience but like anything other professional, some people have a knack for it and take to it well. Managing and Robin Ventura do not go together. But we'll see.
