  1. Don't think Avila will be back this season. Third time he's tweeked that hamstring since it was originally hurt. Probably for the best, he's not good anyway. Mark
  2. Nice to get the win but Jacob Turner is bad...very, VERY bad. His rear end needs to be cut as soon as the season is over. Mark
  3. Many years ago Cuban in an interview said he grew up a Pirates fan and that if he had a chance to get any MLB team it would be them. That club was / is his first love. Doesn't mean he wouldn't do a great job if he got a different team but as others have posted MLB owners want no part of him given that he could go off and have a 200 million dollar payroll in an effort to win. Mark
  4. August 11, 1991 - In only his second major league start, the Sox Wilson Alvarez tossed a no-hitter against the Orioles in Baltimore. Alvarez was handed a big lead early on and made the most of it, shutting down the Birds. Lance “One Dog” Johnson made a saving catch in right center field late in the game as Alvarez had his greatest moment in winning 7-0. We've got a pair of audio cuts from this game which can be found here towards the end of the items listed. (It was a busy day in Sox history! LOL). The first is Johnson's catch to save the no-hitter and the second is the final out in it. Announcer: Wayne Hagin. 5. Additional stat: Sox have now scored three runs or less in 54 of 114 games played. 47%. Doesn't matter who they bring in, doesn't matter what team they come from, a culture of losing has now gripped this organization. Nothing changes until major changes are made on the baseball side of the front office and in the philosophy of the organization. Mark
  6. 15th loss this season when the Sox allowed an opponent three runs or less. Mark
  7. uote name='kitekrazy' date='Aug 11, 2016 -> 08:44 PM' post='3415870'] Yet Cooper gets a free pass from the fan base. Not from the entire fan base. Mark
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Yeah its all puppy dogs and candy canes until the bidder is from out of town Why...out of town ownership doesn't mean the team is going anywhere. Mark
  9. If you are "going for it," you start by hiring a competent manager and let him pick his own staff. Mark
  10. Nate Jones is not a closer folks (neither is Robertson). Something about Kansas City and the Sox bullpen isn't there? Fourth game THIS SEASON the Sox led K.C. in the 7th inning or later...and lost. Mark
  11. Once again Sale pitches well only to get nothing because of a s***ty bullpen. he has got to be totally frustrated. Mark
  12. Didn't see this posted. Read a few days ago a story where they quoted Robin as saying Avila reinjured that hamstring while running. No idea now when or if he'll be back this season. I suspect he won't be around next year with the club since he'll have missed roughly half the season if the doesn't return. Mark
  13. How has he looked so far in the minor leagues? I thought I saw where at first he was struggling. Mark
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) Yep. 34k per year after 43 days of service. A lot of folks could live decently on 34 thousand a year for the rest of their lives for 43 days of service. Didn't realize it was that good. I thought at one time it was four years service before you could qualify, I guess that was bargained to what it is now in deals between the owners and the MLBPA. Mark
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Well it provides plenty of excuses for the front office come the offseason. Very good point and something that I'm concerned they are going to do. Injuries made their impact this year to be sure but realistically the team was headed into the toilet before they became an epidemic in my opinion. Mark
  16. All you can do is laugh. Injuries never ending... not that it really matters at this point. The Chicago White Sox the team the baseball gods laugh at. Mark
  17. A rare item. August 7, 1974 - Comiskey Park was the site for one of the most exciting games of the early 1970’s and it involved Nolan Ryan. The flamethrower took a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Sox and led 1-0 thanks to a Frank Robinson home run. After getting the first out in the inning however it all fell apart for him. Dick Allen beat out an infield hit spoiling the no-hitter and Carlos May reached on an error. Ken Henderson ripped a single to center to tie the game and then with two out, Billy Sharp singled to right to win it. The Sox beat the Angels 2-1 getting all three of their hits in the final inning. I actually have the entire last of the 9th inning TV broadcast which considering the age looks very good and condensed down part of it for the audio for this clip. It can be found about halfway down here: http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/08/t...-white-machine/ Announcer is Harry Caray. Courtesy: WSNS-TV. Mark
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) 9 of those 36 years, or 25% of his time as owner, the Sox have won 90 or more games. That figure is wrong. The Sox won 90+ games under JR six times: 1983, 1990, 1993, 2000, 2005, 2006. Mark
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) You go by record. I go by championships. how much would this board complain about the team if the currently were on the winning season streak with no championships. there would be complaining about how they can't finish a season or how the manager burns out the players and they can't win the world Series. The point of the game is Winning the World series or not. Not me. I'd almost sell my soul to have a run like they had from 51-67. Knowing they were going to win more then they lost at the end of the year, knowing they had a reasonable chance to make the expanded playoffs more then once every seven years and knowing that fans and the media actually cared. You can't win the World Series if you don't get to the playoffs first. That's the initial step...after that it's a crapshoot, especially in a short series. Mark
  20. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Again the side effect of not spending money. Jerry wants to compete at a level hes comfortable at. They dont give out large contracts but yet again dont have a farm system to aquire the holes that need to be filled. Again you dont hear crap coming from jerry on the whole subject. Definitely dont hear much from kenny. Exactly. Jerry wants to win, I have no doubt on that score at all. The caveat is though he wants to win "his way," under "his conditions." How's that worked out for 36 years basically? He's a brilliant business guy and real estate man, no question. That doesn't mean his way is smarter or better than the rest of baseball's and the record shows it hasn't worked very well. Mark
  21. At this rate Shields is going to LOSE 20 games this year. Great pickup Rick! And how about that Albers and Kahnle combo? Sox traded a kid who looks like he's got a real chance for that stiff Kahnle who throws 100, problem is he can't find the plate. Mark

  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) See robin is in his last year so unless he gets a extentions hes probably not back. Next hahn is probably going to do interviews and that can take some time. Plus if they have guys thats on other teams like bench coaches to interview they have to get permission from the team. Not a just hire someone and be done kinda decision. again realize jerry is probably going to have some say in it. Heck robin was offered the job and he had no previous experience and didnt want the job. Lifer: JR has the FINAL say in managerial hirings. The candidate recommended by Kenny Hahn sees JR for an interview / visit usually at his home in Arizona. The JR lets Kenny Hahn know what he thinks, if he says no...the hiring does not happen. (Same for broadcasters by the way...) Mark
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Where are these reports? I've actually seen the opposite from Scot Gregor and Matt Spiegel. Both have heard that JR is ready to do it. Jim: I've been told by two independent sources that JR does not want to do this and have posted such on the site. Take it for whatever you think it is worth. The sources are good ones I can assure you. Add in Buster Olney's comments about the issues with the Sox chain of command and I think it's clear to me anyway that the front office is not unified on a plan forward and remember JR has the final word. I think they badly need a rebuild but I just don't see JR at his age approving that to say nothing of Kenny's "go for it" attitude. We'll see.
  25. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Rick Hahn may think there are going to be more suitors. But that doesnt mean the price will be met. Heyman in his last article posted pretty much the same thing from another front office executive. Just because there is more people doesnt make your price any less ridiculous. Does anyone honestly think their price is going to be met? Or that they actually want someone to meet that price? I actually think they dont want their price to be met so they can keep on going in their dream world where they can just add a few veterans and compete. If the reports that JR does not want a rebuild are accurate, this makes it clear what's going to happen next year. Mark
