  1. What's the over/under on how long before Iloy gets hurt again?
  2. June 23, 1956 – It was first of the two great fights on the field between Yankee and White Sox players; almost one year later, June 13, 1957, the second one took place. In this one Bob Grim (the late uncle to former Sox Director of Business Development and Broadcasting Bob Grim) threw one high and tight to Sox outfielder Dave Philley in the home half of the sixth inning. The ball glanced off Philley’s shoulder and bounced into his batting helmet knocking it off. Philley charged the mound as the benches and bullpens emptied. Both players swung at each other, as the rest of the teams held each other back. Order was restored after about 20 minutes. Philley was tossed from the game. Grim was allowed to stay in, but perhaps shaken; he was tagged for two runs...driven in by Sherm Lollar and Luis Aparicio, the only runs on the day in the Sox 2-0 win.
  3. I've known Rich a long time and he tells it straight in this column: https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/06/22/white-sox-yoan-moncada-luis-robert-eloy-jimenez-john-schriffen-garrett-crochet-martin-maldonado-tommy-pham
  4. Part of the reason may be so some individuals don't look so bad in the front office/ownership. That's just a guess on my part. One thing this organization has had for decades is big ego's, refusal to admit mistakes, blame the fan base and don't want to be personally embarrassed.
  5. Greg...please this doesn't serve you well at all. Please stop. This team will be lucky to play ,300 ball when four or five guys are shipped out. And again for the millionth time Beni isn't going anywhere unless the Sox can include him in a trade package. JR will not approve cutting his ass with years left on his deal.
  6. They are actually 2-17 against the rest of the division sans Cleveland as of tonight.
  7. Based on performances in Double AA and a few games at the big league level? Greg I hope you are right but I've got to tell you, you are really stretching things to try to make a point here. And for all we know JR will order Getz to not spend or have limited spending options for 2025. Oh and by the way, next year's free agent class is not the best around. IF everything goes right and new ownership is in place they may be able to contend in the division in 2027...maybe.
  8. I was actually referring to Robert. But it also holds true for Jimenez.
  9. With Harold having recovered from some very difficult and life threatening situations I can't under any circumstances see him returning to the field.
  10. Right now with his injury history and only hitting .190 (?) the Sox may not get anything really impactful for him.
  11. With JR as owner it is best to never assume anything rational.
  12. I think (and I may be wrong) this is the first win for a Sox starting pitcher this season not named Crochet or Fedde. And checking the box score I didn't realize Robert is now hitting .190!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Either this guy is still really hurt or he's mailing it in and wants out...or maybe it is both.
  13. Latest Grifol on Colas: “I want to see what he looks like,” said Grifol, who wants to see Colas play some first base, too. “We do have to see some things.”
  14. Yes DeJong lost track of the outs. DVS of the Sun-Times with the recap: “Mental lapse there,” DeJong said. “Worried about getting on base and didn’t keep track of it. Totally on me and cost us the game. Feels pretty bad. Just try to do better next time, that’s all I can say.” Asked about the play, manager Pedro Grifol asked a reporter if DeJong had talked to reporters about it. “I leave those answers to those guys,’ Grifol said. “They’re professionals. DeJong plays the game hard every day. If he said he had a mental lapse, that’s part of it. We’re all human.” DeJong said he was “emotionally invested in the review that maybe took me out of the rhythm of the game but I have to do better to check in once the game gets going again.”
  15. Sox have yet to win a single solitary game this season against Minnesota or Detroit ?
  16. JR says: "Eat three years of his salary?" ?????
  17. From Merkin's newsletter: Oscar Colás has not started since getting three hits in Seattle on June 13. He had just two at-bats on June 16 in Arizona. So, the 25-year-old outfielder needs other outlets to remain sharp. “You've got to stay on top of your game, you've got to get in the cage, you've got to do high velocity,” Grifol said. “He'll get another opportunity of course. But right now, we have Tommy Pham, we have [Luis] Robert that's playing every day now. We have Beni [Andrew Benintendi], we have [Corey] Julks. When they throw a lefty, it's Julks. “Every adversity, every opportunity to learn is extremely important for a player like him. Just stay ready until you get that opportunity and be ready to go. That's all I can tell him. We had a conversation about it [Wednesday]. He works extremely hard. He's doing everything he can to stay sharp.” Staying in the Majors is beneficial presently for Colás. But with Eloy Jiménez returning next homestand from the injured list, that plan could change. “He can't do this long-term,” Grifol said. “If an opportunity doesn't present itself in the near future, then obviously it's more beneficial for him to go get at-bats. But in a short spurt, a week to 10 days, it doesn't hurt. It could help.”
  18. They have been a big part of it to be sure...but...this season was going to be a disaster anyway even if they did a decent job.
  19. Man that's a lot of money on mostly retreads, injury-prone players, has been's and stiffs. Yet that doesn't seem to bother JR as much as having to spend 27 million a year on a guy like Bryce Harper.
  20. He also is on the big league roster from what I read.
  21. He had a deadline in his contract that he had to be added to the 40-man by a certain day or he could leave. And with Stassi done for the year (talk about more wasted money) Sox needed some catching insurance.
  22. Yankees signed Hill today (Thursday)
