  1. if you think about it the loser mentality permeates the entire organization from top to bottom all areas, all departments since the start of the 2007 year.
  2. Correct. He ripped it diving for a ball hit down the line.
  3. This may be what you are remembering: September 6, 1999 - In a double header at Texas, manager Jerry Manuel and star DH Frank Thomas got into an argument after Thomas refused to pinch hit in the second game. Manuel was livid and sent Thomas back to Chicago. Thomas had pinch hit in the first game and struck out. It was discovered after examination by team doctors that Thomas saying he was hurt rang true. They found a bone spur the size of a walnut on the outside of his ankle which required surgery and ended his season.
  4. “This would have been a really good one, coming back twice and being able to steal this one,” Grifol said. “We’ve got to be able to clean those things up.” ? It's July 2nd Pedro, you aren't cleaning anything up with these buffoons.
  5. I'm also guessing the sheer ineptness on and off the field has made coverage and readership of the Sox perhaps at its lowest point since the late 60's - 1970 for both mainstream and internet media. As Charlie Finley once said (talking about Bill Veeck's ownership) "You can't ballyhoo a funeral..."
  6. Forgot about Cleveland and Milwaukee. Boston has been one of the most successful franchises for decades is the point I was trying to make, that's why I had them listed with the other franchises.
  7. Agreed however it should be noted that the only reason it was done was because U.S. Cellular paid for the changes. I don't think JR would have done anything on his own dime.
  8. He just fell off the map ability-wise for a number of reasons.

  10. True it is hard but that hasn't seemed to stop organizations like the Dodgers. Braves, Phillies, Giants, Cardinals, Astros, Yankees, Red Sox and Rays from figuring it out.

  12. If that's the case then you outlive him. Seriously what else can you do? Again for the 1,000th time. JR is NOT changing his ways. I hate the way things have basically gone since 2007 but he isn't going to change and the only thing possible is to get a lot of young cheap talent and hope it works out for once. Until new ownership arrives nothing substantial is going to change with the organization. The sooner you accept that reality the easier it will become.
  13. Absolutely correct and may I add the only way a real good minor league system is going to be developed is when new ownership arrives that is willing to spend money on it and to bring in the best possible instructors and scouts. History shows that isn't JR.
  14. The good news about a Sox off day? They can't possibly lose...(or can they?)
  15. Again things have a realistic chance of being different when new ownership arrives. Until then, you and I, and the heavens above, know nothing will change JR's operating philosophy. As Kenny Williams once said, "It is what it is..."
  16. But remember his defensive abilities and leadership mean more to Grifol! ?
  17. Things will change significantly the day new ownership arrives. Whether that is for good or bad remains to be seen. But change is desperately needed and at some point it has to come.
  18. I'm sorry, I'm still not following I don't remember any player named Turner. Also I'm not arguing the point, just trying to know who Turner is, because I can't recall anyone of that name on the Sox at least since Jerry Turner in the 1981 season.
  19. Forgive my ignorance but who is Turner?
  20. When new ownership arrives and builds a competent front office and that also spends money on development and acquiring top-level free agent talent. Until then the only "hope" may be...notice I said maybe, getting as much young talent as possible and hope (there's that word again) it can develop under the current dysfunctional organization. Seriously what else can be done given the restrictions JR has implemented???????????????????????? If there is another avenue I wish someone would explain it to me.
  21. Fundamentals on offense and defense have been a word that is never used by this organization.
  22. I guess that depends on your definition of "viable". This year, I'd probably agree dumpster guys would work. But they never had options worth a tinkers cuss (ya like that phrase?) when they were supposedly "contending." And there lies one of the the problems from the last several years and the urgency to rush injured guys back.
  23. Possible although that doesn't explain the medical issues rushing back people over the last several years. The Robert situation for example was two years ago to cite one example.
  24. It's a series of games (as in more than one), where multiple teams participate to determine an eventual champion.
  25. At the rate the Cubs are going they'll be selling guys off just like the Sox in three weeks.
