4/23 - Sox @ Twins 6:40 - Fedde vs. P. Lopez
Lip Man 1 replied to WestEddy's topic in 2024 Season in Review
5th game this year where the Sox had a lead in the 7th inning or later and lost. Only 100 more losses to tie the 62' Mets! Don't stop now boys! ? -
As has been pointed out the expansion cities talked about don't come close to the opportunities offered by the Chicago area. Not even close. There is tremendous untapped potential here if a new owner would build a good organization.

Understand completely. Like I posted as recently from speaking with sources in and out of the organization for the story in November 2022 he won't sell because of the tax hit and has told his family to unload it because supposedly it is not making money due to no salary cap. Maybe something has changed for him health-wise? The very last thing Sox fans should want is for another Reinsdorf to own this club.

See my Sox Quote of the Day. Grifol avoided answering DVS's question on it. -

Have to agree, and some of these guys are mailing it in. -
“I can tell you this, rest assured, that everything that happens on this ballclub, on the field, off the field that affects us being able to win a baseball game or the integrity and character of this organization, is being addressed. That’s the only thing I can say. As far as getting into the specifics of it, I’m never going to do this. We can continue to talk about it and you guys can continue to ask those questions and I’ll continue to answer this way. The only thing I can assure you is that everybody here, including myself, is being held accountable.”-- Pedro Grifol ? If he was being held accountable he would have been fired at the end of last season.
-
If they follow his publicly stated wishes there is no "might" to it, the team will be sold when he passes on.
-
Seems very light to me but at least he sees the blowback and is moving towards some contribution.
-
Who would you pick to replace Grifol? Outside the box answers only.

The ghosts of Al Lopez or Chuck Tanner. -
Exactly correct.

Nicky Lopez, .176 Robbie Grossman, .175 Eloy Jiménez, .167 Gavin Sheets, .255 Andrew Benintendi, .158 Kevin Pillar, .167 Lenyn Sosa, .132 Braden Shewmake, .143 Martín Maldonado, .053.

He had a bad screw up in the field today during that run down as well.
-
Because of how the Sox are categorized by MLB is the reason for the draft position situation.
-
MLB considers the White Sox a "major market" team....unfortunately the Sox owner doesn't think that way.
-
You just got your wish: “We’re 20 games in, our record sucks,” Pedro Grifol said. https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/04/21/runs-defense-pitching-all-lacking-in-latest-white-sox-loss

The MLBPA would immediately file a grievance and if they won the Sox would have to pay him. Plus the negative blowback among the players around the league could cause ramifications in the future trying to acquire talent.
-
Hiring an experienced manager with a winning background costs money and JR has gone on record as saying he doesn't think a field manager or head coach matters that much to a team's performance.
-
Depending on how far back you want to go: Paul Richards (Orioles; I think he won Manager of the Year) Chuck Tanner (Pirates; where he won a World Series / Braves) Bob Lemon (Yankees; where he won a World Series) Tony La Russa (A's; where he won a World Series / Cardinals; where he won a World Series) Jim Fregosi (Phillies; where he went to the World Series / Blue Jays) Jeff Torborg (Mets / Expos / Marlins; he wasn't fired but was forced out by Ron Schueler) Jerry Manuel (Mets) Ozzie Guillen (Marlins)

So much for that "momentum" from yesterday's ninth inning. Four hits today. LOL.

Most of these guys are in their mid-30's and have already made a lot of money they aren't playing for their careers in my opinion because they know their days are numbered anyway. When you are 33-34-35 how much of a career do you have left??? When you are 3-17, human nature kicks in, it may be unconscious but it's there.
-
And Pedro weighs in..... “We just strung some good at-bats together, it’s going to happen at some point." Maybe when they are 10-45??? ?
-
I admire your definition of what a win is.

"We have the right mindset here. The right players, the right guys doing everything they can to battle out of it. But we’ve had some tough breaks." -- Dominic Leone ? "Luck is the residue of design" - Branch Rickey
