Landis won four Gold Gloves with the Sox. Mel Allen said he was as good a defensive center fielder as Mantle or Mays. I agree. But let's also give a nod to Chet Lemon and Lance Johnson.
-
if so with him bein g a free agent he should bring back something useful for the Sox at the deadline.

This offense is pretty bad. Moncada was a late scratch because he was sick. Eloy left after getting hit by a pitch. Same old, same old.

Guess that will help give us a rough idea of how many games they are going to lose this year. I'll say three out of every five.

White Sox fans #29 in "hope," down 20 spots in 2 years

Unfortunately with this organization the mantra is "Hope for the best, expect the worst..." -
Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
Lip Man 1 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The "good news" has been severely limited and doesn't even come close to comparing to other teams that actually are trying to win and aren't incompetent, dysfunctional or inept. Today is actually the anniversary of another "one shining moment" in the history of this franchise (LOL): March 18, 2016 - The ongoing embarrassment that surrounded the retirement of Adam LaRoche ended, at least officially, with the player explaining his side of the story. Just hours earlier, Chris Sale had kicked off what would be an utterly bizarre year for him by speaking out in support of LaRoche and against his own G.M., Ken Williams. Outfielder Adam Eaton would do the same. The crux of the story came down to LaRoche claiming that, contrary to what was promised when he signed with the White Sox, his son Drake recently had been completely banned from spring training. Williams proffered that he’d spoken to Adam about lessening Drake’s constant presence with the team (as prompted by players like Jimmy Rollins, who talked to the G.M. about this strange, unprofessional and intrusive arrangement), and then lost his cool, when after that, he saw Drake on the pitcher’s mound during infield practice and issued a complete ban. The entire situation made the organization look inept and dysfunctional. -

Sox speaking about bringing back Clevinger

I agree with you but the owner says otherwise, "fiscal responsibility" is his words to live by. -
Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

I agree, you could see this coming a few months ago in my opinion. -

"He went out to the field, bouncing around like he always does, and [when first baseman Andrew] Vaughn called his name to do something, he turned around and his spike got caught," manager Pedro Grifol said. "He knew he had sprained it pretty good. I saw him walking around today and they didn’t even think he was going to be able to do that, so. He’s a quick healer. It’s amazing how that works, you want to make a team, you heal quickly."

That's why the Sox cut payroll drastically. They know they are going to lose 95-100 games and be an after thought. Regarding attendance, again it matters but with the TV / radio money both locally and from national contracts, attendance doesn't mean as much like it did in the 60's and 70's. That money is already in the bank drawing interest.
-
Interesting thought. My only comment would be does Getz want to admit so early in his tenure that he screwed up and wasted JR's money by cutting him? Me thinks not.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/03/16/walk-this-way-white-sox-need-free-passes-to-fuel-offense And this is the news on Lambert; Right-hander Jimmy Lambert will not need surgery on his shoulder, it was determined after a visit to Dr. Neal Alattrache Thursday. “There’s something there, but we have a plan going forward for the next month,” Lambert said.

3/16 - Giants @ Sox, and Sox @ Mariners

DVS of the Sun Times asked Pedro about this yesterday and was told he is "OK." Take that as you will. -
Is it too early to wish to start the Getz watch?

And don't forget during the three years of the "rebuild", they were near the bottom or one year at the bottom in terms of payroll spent. -
In that division who is to say Pittsburgh won't contend? They've got some good young talent.
-
I'd drop any of my objections if (when?) JR comes out and says, "We are contributing _____ million dollars towards this project." We'll see if that ever happens.
-
Anything is possible but unless or until JR says the franchise is going to contribute a fair amount to build it, I simply can not see the political will to make it happen. The governor appears to be dead set against it and he isn't going anywhere and I can't see many other politicos sticking their necks out under the current circumstances. The blowback has already been significant.

Now the Chiefs are getting into the relocation-threat vibe. Although they have said they'll contribute 300 million: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/chiefs-might-explore-option-of-leaving-kansas-city-if-upcoming-sales-tax-vote-doesnt-go-their-way/
