2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread

Jon Jay is better than Adam Jones, in my opinion -
I don't know how many times we have to disprove this point of yours. One would think that you'd acknowledge the evidence consistently presented that counters your claim, but you persist, which is why people think you're just trolling. Nonetheless, here we go again: Jose Abreu's OPS by month: March/April: .832 May: .817 June: .852 July: .876 August: .966 September: .866 With the exception of him being better in August, the other figures are all normal statistical variations that would be present given the sample size being used. If an .832 OPS in April and an .817 OPS in May is someone "consistently underperforming' then he's the least of our problems.

Jay actually has a higher OBP against lefties than righties in his career. if anyone needs a platoon partner I think it would be Palka.

I went through a similar situation with Barstool. In 2016 they stole a video of mine without crediting me. I both emailed them and messaged them asking them for credit, received no response. So a few months later I filed a DMCA strike on them. Sure enough, they emailed me the next day and seemed pretty desperate. I handled it much differently than this person did and we eventually came to an agreement, but they clearly steal content and then don't care to give credit (despite requests to do so) until they get a strike on them.

Who is your top 2019-20 free agent target
Jose Abreu replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I do think that the Sox will end up with one of Martinez/Castellanos. Their market is teams with a DH, so eliminate half of the league already. In the AL East, the only team that might need a DH and not have to worry about the luxury tax is the Rays. In the central, we're probably the only team that would have interest, maybe the Twins but I doubt it. In the west, maybe the Astros go for one, but I don't know how aggressively. Keep in mind that A's DH Khris Davis will be a free agent too, and he's arguably better than Castellanos. If the competition for the 3 DHs is the White Sox, Rays, Twins, Astros, and *maybe* the Yankees/Red Sox get in on one but I doubt it, then I think we get one -

I don't see the Sox signing Gerrit Cole but I can see them signing Grandal and/or JD Martinez. -

I'm surprised he's even still playing there between the rape allegations and attacking a police officer -
How many times does the same exact injury need to happen the same exact way before they either make him wear a sliding glove or make him slide feet first?

It's two awful teams (who are both playing well lately as bmags noted) but this game has been the most entertaining of the season for me. -

Yes, it's Atlanta, but my god, the Zach/Lauri/Otto core has been so good. -
So the defense of Sexton is that he plays on a horrible team, but Markkanen isn't good because, to quote you exactly, "accumulating big numbers on a bad team just doesn't prove anything"? Isn't it worrisome that Sexton can't put up numbers on such a bad team then?
-
I think that's an overstatement. He's not a good defender but he's also not Enes Kanter out there.
-
*calls people who watch the Bulls and see "even a little talent" delusional* *calls Markkanen "overmatched every night" and "soft"*
-
I know it's pretty much a foregone conclusion, but I hate that Yolmer is gonna be the everyday 2B. We already know what we have in him. I'd rather give someone like Jose Rondon reps.

I love how the Phillies, who haven't had a winning season since 2011, are viewed as this big winning club, while the Padres, who haven't had a winning season since 2010, are viewed in the opposite way. Sure, the Phillies are better set up to win in 2019, but over the next decade or so, especially given how the NL East is shaping up, I think the teams will both be pretty good.

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap

That's even worse when you consider that inflation alone should cause that number to increase dramatically over such a span. -

Eh, I like both players but Markkanen is way better than Moncada is right now. -

Yes they are, and they're absolutely right. These quotes are insulting to the fanbase's intelligence. -
