I'm pretty surprised that you feel this way, given your disdain for Reinsdorf/the front office.
Unless you think that such a signing would be a bad thing for the organization?
Nobody's forcing you to read it. Those of us who have taken note of recent organizational patterns, comments, and hints obviously believe that the chance is nonzero.
From what James Fox and WhiteSoxDave have been writing, it seems as though the Sox have designed some sort of presentation to give to Machado to sell him on how we're gonna win with him. I hope it's not like the presentation we gave Ohtani.
Where did you see this? It's interesting to me that it's literally day one of the offseason and we're seeing reports of teams not being so crazy for him. If this isn't all just posturing and smoke, maybe it really will be the Phillies and us as the top bidders
Exactly. What happens when you preemptively move Moncada to 3rd in the spring, and then Madrigal either
a) never reaches the majors or
b) is never a good enough player to actually force someone off their position
I'd argue that those two outcomes are just as likely as Madrigal being so good that people need to be moving over for him years in advance of his arrival.
They also need to fix their free agency/salary settings in franchise mode. In all of my seasons, Machado/Harper offers and eventual signings max out at 10/240 or so.
Finally, someone who gets that Jones' option for 2019 isn't for $4.5 million. You're already a step above the Sox beat writers and most bloggers
-edit: it's actually less than the listed 1.25 too, it's for the league minimum which is about 540k
