  1. Yeah losing a dozen games of Lauri doesn't suddenly make us a threat for a top pick IMO. This team is better than people think, and if they were trying at the end of games last year they would've won closer to 35ish games. Tanking sucks also because it really fucks with projections. Everyone sees the Bulls and thinks they won 27 games last year but the reality is that, in the normal pre-tanking NBA, they weren't that bad. I also think the defensive concerns are overblown. As in, we are indeed a bad defensive team but not nearly as bad as the media is saying. LaVine is actually a good on-ball defender. It's off-ball where he struggles but he claims he worked hard on that in the summer, so we'll see. The only player who I think is actually a major defensive liability is Parker.
  2. I agree, he has crazy range but his issue is sometimes messing up on a ball that's hit almost right to him, usually due to footwork. Relatively easy problem to fix, and if he does, he's among the top fielding second basemen in the league.
  3. What's funny is what he dismissed as a "pipe dream" is probably a more likely event than the chance that Moncada's problem is his weight
  4. Moving a physically gifted defensive second baseman (as proven by his range stats) to third base because of a prospect who's still in single-A is pretty foolish and probably not something that has ever happened. It reminds me of the meathead "move Tim Anderson to center field!" stuff from May
  5. Familiarizing players with sacrifice bunting is not something that would reassure me about Renteria's managing
  6. I believe Jones' option is for the league minimum due to the clause that states him having elbow surgery prior to 2019 would make it so. He had elbow surgery in 2017. Easy keep for the price.
  7. The Bucs defense is actually really good on the line. Linebackers and secondary, not so much. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't use Howard much. I don't think it would've gone well. This win was as much on Trubisky as it was on Nagy's playcalling and coaching. Very stellar game all-around.
  8. Hey this was solid despite being a month early
  9. All things considered, a .715 OPS with 32 doubles, 17 homers, 6 triples, 67 walks, 12 stolen bases, and good defense (in my opinion, I know I'm in the minority there) from him this season is not bad at all. I have high hopes for him next year to cut the K rate and let these other numbers improve as a result.
  10. And here's another, clearer one from 2014: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/24/upshot/facebook-baseball-map.html#6,39.284,-94.931
  11. https://deadspin.com/heres-facebooks-2015-mlb-fandom-map-1695021778 This is from 2015 but is relevant to discussion. Seems like the White Sox control more of the actual city of Chicago (as opposed to the rest of IL) than people may think.
  12. The biggest "bright spot" of the season was completely omitted from the thread, and it's Tim Anderson establishing himself as a starting caliber MLB shortstop. Obviously needs to work on raising OBP and continuing to cut strikeouts, but his defense + speed + power profile, along with his cheap contract, make him a virtual lock as our starting SS for the next 4+ years.
  13. What's "awful" about a .391 OBP, 34 home runs, and a 133 wRC+?
  14. It was in the center and below the zone, yes. If it were an inch below the zone then yeah, swing. It looked much lower than that though.
  15. I think the Phillies are probably the top contender. But the Yankees and Dodgers have luxury tax concerns that might cause them to hold back
  16. This is consistent with a tidbit I heard too. Even if we don’t get him, I think many will be surprised at how much we offer (if it leaks).
  17. I like Write Sox, 108, Pnoles, etc. but they’ve been so pessimistic lately. I was glad to see you and Owen give your interpretations.
  18. Either you misread or the Sun Times did a poor job of reporting but that’s pretty much the opposite impression I got from Hahn’s interview
  19. The Rams are as close to a flawless football team as you can get. Even down to the punter, kicker (when healthy), etc. Just an unreal roster and coach.
  20. And how many times, in those 25+ years, have consensus elite position players reached free agency at age 26 or younger at a time where the White Sox coincidentally only have $9 million + arbitration deals and minimal buyouts committed in the future? I don't think past evidence is relevant this offseason because this offseason is just so rare, especially because there are two of the players I just described available. It's a sport-altering offseason.
  21. Well just to make myself clear, it's only a few posts, none of them are yours, and they're all abrasive- stuff like "you'd have to be a complete idiot to think we have a shot at signing _____". Anyway, I guess I'd consider anything north of $125 million in total to be such a contract. I do believe we'll meet or exceed that total at some point in the next few years.
  22. It’s probably even more foolish to believe that we have a team with virtually the lowest possible payroll without the intention of adding impact FAs to it. I have so many posts saved to laugh at once we end up signing one of these guys in the next few years.
  23. Had we traded for Yelich, we'd be without one of Eloy/Robert and one of Cease/Dunning right now. The anti-Hahn backlash would've shut this site down.
