Fegan is good but is sometimes too overly pessimistic for my liking. Either way, at least he puts out a lot of content. I agree that NBCSC does a good job even if they may be overly optimistic. I'm just waiting for someone to be in between!
Here's an idea for the outfield:
Engel to AAA, Eloy to MLB
Then the question becomes who plays CF, as only Leury is capable
So then you move Cordell to MLB (bound to happen sooner or later) and option Palka or Delmonico to AAA.
Suddenly you have an outfield of Jimenez, Cordell/Leury, and Avi, with one of Leury/Cordell off the bench and one of Palka/Delmonico able to fill in at LF/DH
As the trash (Engel, Thompson, Volstad, etc) continues to exit the roster, that will also have a substantial effect. Even with no FA acquisitions, if we can stay relatively healthy, I see us winning 73-83 games next year.
You're also assuming no major FA signings. 2019 is not out of the question (for a .500 or better season) if we make some major signings this offseason.
While I'm against moving Moncada/Anderson from their current positions, there's pretty much no downside to letting them learn CF as a backup position like we apparently are doing with Yolmer. I think both of them would be able to field adequately out there.
Rodon and TA for Urias, Quantrill, ++? That way the middle infield situation would be clear... I don't think I'd do that if I were either team though. But if Tatis and Gore are untouchable, I don't know how it would work.
I think Palka may be the one to go down rather than Delmonico. But could go either way of course.
Alternatively, Davidson could go down or be DFA'd/traded, letting Delmonico stay on as a 1B/DH/LF. We'd still have capable third basemen in Sanchez and Leury.
