  1. Just watched the Cespedes segment on MLB Network. No new information, but they all said that the Sox are a good fit. We were also the first team they mentioned.
  2. Mills @MillManner @AdamRubinESPN when's the next conference call on periscope ? Adam RubinVerified account ‏@AdamRubinESPN 42s42 seconds ago When Cespedes re-signs.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) That was one of the most annoying videos I've ever watched. I made it to about 3:30, and had to turn it off. seconded
  4. Dan Hayes was tweeting that the Sox (3126741000) received many calls on 7/31 asking not to trade Samardzija (which we either should have done, or we should have traded for Upton/Cespedes), so they didn't trade Samardzija. He's implying that if we call that number asking for Cespedes, then we'll get Cespedes. Take it FWIW, as I don't buy it.
  5. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 03:23 AM) I went to the Devils/Coyotes game here in AZ yesterday. Man, what a downgrade in experience from the UC. Only about 60% filled, and both teams were so sloppy. Probably didn't help the atmosphere that the Yotes lost 2-0. Did you at least see Adam Eaton and/or Frankie Muniz? They go to lots of Coyotes games.
  6. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:23 PM) So for our fan base to ever hope to acquire top tier talent via free agent, we have to hope the price of said talent has to fall below market value so as to "fall" to a price that the current ownership is willing to pay? The same ownership who has never given a contract for a higher value than the small market Royals have done not once but twice this winter? I mean, wow. What is going on here. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:11 AM) Rationalize all you want. The sox accelerated their rebuild, traded away 5 minor leaguers, and still *maybe* will be .500. They had two ways to go this offseason, they chose neither. The lack of strategy in this front office is depressingly average. I think these posts sum it up best.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) Quick poll: If you had the chance, would you rather have traded Q for Shelby millers same package and done nothing else, or have our current offseason with zero big 3 OF additions Traded Q for Shelby's package
  8. Very good post.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Sounds like a job for Will Venable Ah, the Venerable Will.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:13 PM) He said the Sox could possibly bring in a left handed hitting outfielder who could help more defensively but that's as far as he'd go. He said the Sox would like to see "what Avisail Garcia could do." :huh
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:04 PM) And for me, the starting pitching depth is terrible outside Sale/Q/Rodon. Well, that's 60% of our rotation... if we're in it at the deadline, I think we'll acquire a #4 SP anyway
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:00 PM) For me, Melky goes to DH and Hahn continues to work on an upgrade in RF. If he can't find that upgrade, then Melky can't do any worse defensively in RF than Avi, and meanwhile, we added last year's LF Gold Glove winner in left AND his bat in the heart of our order. Again, Cespedes is a NO-BRAINER. He makes sense on every level. Don't let that mislead you. His arm is great. His glove is average at best.
  13. I think Melky in RF would be so bad defensively (maybe even worse than Garcia) that we'd end up moving him to DH, putting Shuck/somebody else in RF, and benching LaRoche.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) Cespedes has no ties to the Sox outside of Abreu while having way more ties to the Tigers and Mets I agree with the points you've been making aside from this one. Since when are "ties" such a huge factor in FA decisions? Did David Robertson have ties to the White Sox before he signed with us? Did Melky? Avila? Navarro?
  15. This lineup looks ok: Eaton Cabrera Abreu Frazier LaRoche Lawrie Garcia Avila/Navarro Saladino But this lineup looks incredible: Eaton Cabrera Abreu Cespedes Frazier LaRoche/Garcia Lawrie Avila/Navarro Saladino
  16. It sure is frustrating knowing that we are one piece away from being serious contenders, and it is a piece that we can afford. $115 million doesn't scream "all in" to me.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) I expect Ian Desmond to the Sox rumors this week, as no one else needs a SS Lose out on LeBron, sign Carlos Boozer
  18. I'd say: 1. Mike Trout 2. A.J. Pollock 3. Andrew McCutchen 4. Lorenzo Cain 5. Jason Heyward 6. Kevin Kiermaier 7. Adam Eaton 8. Mookie Betts 9. Adam Jones 10. Carlos Gomez Very similar to MLBN.
