  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) No. ^
  2. If this happens, I'd rather have Garcia DH than LaRoche. He's the better hitter.
  3. Are you Dan Black? I'm not even kidding- 19 of your 22 posts are in Dan Black threads that you created
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) The whole free agent market this year is bizarre as far as the lack of signings by now. Ken Rosenthal had a pretty good article on the reasons why and how they could fix some of it. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chris-d...ot-stove-122015 Hopefully some stuff goes down the next couple days. Usually players like to have it off their minds by Christmas, but this year it's going to take a lot longer apparently. I like the NBA where the big free agents sign almost immediately.
  5. So it doesn't get lost in the Cespedes thread: Robert Brender ‏@robertbrender 47m47 minutes ago The Yoenis Cespedes market is picking up according to Richard Justice and Jerry Crasnick.Giants, O's, White Sox and Angels are possibilities
  6. Niko is so much more effective at the 4 than at the 3. That said, this should be a train wreck.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) I expect these guys to sign by Thursday. We'll see if that happens Maybe the Sox sign Cespedes on Christmas morning
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Well I think whomever we sign should play RF (ideally). I'd argue that Upton is not above average defensively, rather average, but different stats could point you different directions. I do wonder how Avi would fit in left field (vs. right) and I still expect him to have a role as the 4th outfielder (/platoon DH). I think Gordon would have to play LF. I mean, he's played 25 innings in right as opposed to 6821 in left.
  9. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Unless they somehow free up some cash from an unexpected player move (maybe?) or they're able to get rid of Laroche (no chance in hell)... LaRoche is only being paid $13 million. There still wouldn't be enough to sign Cespedes/Upton/Gordon and Parra.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 12:47 PM) Hypothetically though, if the Sox signed one of the 3 elite outfielders, Parra, and found a way to get rid of Avi I think that's far too hypothetical to happen. Plus, if we signed Parra, it would make Melky DH, meaning that we'd also have to rid of LaRoche in this scenario.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Gordon was just fine for them in the playoffs. He's healthy I'm not too worried about that. My concern is he isn't going to strike fear like a Cespedes does. I won't crush the signing. We don't need someone to "strike fear". Gordon brings tremendous defense, decent hitting, and comes from a winning background. That's what we need.
  12. I think it depends on who we get. I'd want Gordon in LF, Cespedes in LF, and Upton in RF.
  13. I think that if this logic were really that sound, then our attendance would have improved last year too.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) Oh my gosh this miss universe thing is so embarrassing. publicity stunt
  15. Stop me if you've heard this one before- Toews with the OT GWG
  16. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) What is that based on? Defensive metrics (in a very small sample) did not like him at all at SS last year and all the scouting reports I've seen have him pegged as more of a 2B that can play SS. He played just 63 innings at SS last year, so I wouldn't put much merit into any statistics regarding his defense there. Too small of a sample size. He was a stellar defensive 3B for us (according to all metrics), and he has played 426 games at SS as opposed to 69 at 2B in the minors, so I certainly wouldn't call him a second baseman.
  17. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) Streamer has him at .243/.301/.360 I'd take that in a heartbeat if he can play acceptable defense at SS I think his defense at SS will be far more than acceptable
  18. My somewhat pessimistic guess is .230/9/40/.265 with 15 stolen bases. With his projected defense, I'd be fine with that.
  19. The whole Beckham/Josh Norman battle today has been ridiculous.
  20. If I had a nickel for every missed Portis layup tonight, I'd have like 30 cents.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Bobby Portis loves to shoot. And miss point-blank layups.
  22. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) Someone on one of the CSN shows was talking about how Cespedes absolutely strikes fear into the pitchers when he's at the dish. I didn't know that but I like it. Well duh... so does every good/powerful hitter.
