Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) You and Balta think much like me as far as trying to compete for 2014 but I think we know in our hearts that it's not likely to happen. About the only thing I can say for what I really want to see happen besides what you outlined is that a strong defensive CF is a must. I think that kind of player sets the tone for the whole team defensively. I know thats probably not backed up statistically in any way, just my basic baseball instincts about being strong defensively up the middle, especially CF. We also need a few guys who don't view OBP as a disease. But after 2007, did we want to compete in 2008? Many of us did not, but we did, and we all know what happened. -

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) I understand that what the cubs are doing has brainwashed some people. If everything goes right for them, then they will have 3-5 core players come up to the big leagues together in a few years, and then after a few years of adjusting, they should contend. 2018? All Hahn is doing is basically saying "f*** that". We just added 2 potentially dynamic young guys to our already massive young core at the MLB level. I would take our position over theirs every time. While I respect the rebuild thought process, I just can't see how it applies in the least bit to the White Sox. We already have tons of good, young guys having success at the MLB level. Keep adding good young guys Rick because at the end of the day, all you need to win is good players. I have to admit that what they're doing over there is pretty cool. I mean, Baez, Soler, Bryant, Olt... I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. Also, what about Zapata? He hasn't been that popular on this board, but he should be here in a few years. -

Didn't Michael Bourn sign with Cleveland in March? I hope Granderson doesn't wait that long. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) My first reaction to the "close losses" stat is that it has no context. I have no clue if that is more than normal or what. Our pythagorean W-L had us with 67 wins (versus 63), which says that we did have an unlucky distribution of runs. If we had been pretty damn lucky in our distribution of runs, we're just getting into the mid-70s of wins. For reference, we won 85 games in 2012 and our pythagorean W-L was 88 wins, so we were actually "unlucky" last year. I put unlucky in quotes because luck isn't the only thing that affects the distribution of runs. Obviously, good teams may "pick their spots" so to speak better. For instance, a good team will surrender a larger portion of runs in games that they're winning big than a bad team. I feel like we always get "unlucky" with Pythagorean W-L. -
The prices would probably be higher, but Wieters.

I know Crain's a righty, but I'd love to have him back. Reed, Crain, and Lindstrom plus whichever other Webtricka guy comes up (am I forgetting someone?) and we would be set for RHPs.
-
Ha, remember him doing well vs us on the Twins, although maybe the numbers say differently. I wouldn't mind him as a second option.

QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) When I asked about Navarro Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 5m I know they had interest but to what degree I'm not sure. https://twitter.com/DanHayesCSN That's cool. I like Hayes. He always replies to tweets asking about the Sox.

Someone with a .255/12/55 162 game AVG is not getting 10 mil a year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) The phrase "That would be quite a contract". Yes it would compared to my earning power, but the NBA is a capped league with max contracts. You can already write down what the contract amount would be that the Bulls would be able to offer Carmelo Anthony. It's about 4/$95. For the Bulls to be able to offer that contract, they would have to be in a position where their total team payroll for next year was $35 million or less. That would, btw, take more than letting Deng and Boozer walk. So yes the contract would be expensive, but the Bulls would be in a position to rake in tons of money if they were able to offer it, since they'd have very little money on the books for next year and there's no way they could get into luxury tax areas. I understand that my specific scenarios were inaccurate, however it still would be possible. He could potentially take a pay cut, much like "The Big Three" did in Miami. Trades could also be made to make this happen. It's unrealistic, but possible.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) That's not how the NBA works, but whatever. Well, I said IF our money was shared, but it's not. And what do you mean? How does it work, then? If you're referring to the Bulls not being able to afford Melo, they could just amnesty Boozer and let Deng walk.
-
If won't affect us, but IF our money was shared with the Bulls, it could potentially hurt us in July. Maybe someone like Melo would want to come here so that **he could be 1 and Rose could be 1A. That would be quite the contract there.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) You can put "formerly known as ChiSoxFan05" in your signature so people know I will thanks
-
All we've done so far (with the exception of the signing of me) is get a few AAA scrubs. No, I will rarely post as if I'm Jose Abreu. Just so everyone knows I was formerly known as ChiSoxFan05.
-
May have been mentioned in another thread, but McCann to NYY, so that's over and done with.

I went to a game against this guy in 2013 and he destroyed us but otherwise we've been good against him

Frank Thomas: "I could have won 4 more MVP's"

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) Frank doesn't need to campaign like Ron Santo. He also sounded more than a little jealous of the treatment the team is giving Paulie. Says he doesn't get what the organization is doing. Well I can't say I disagree with him -
Awkward. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1859471...amming-national

Yankees or Red Sox will get him, and he's suddenly the best baseball player ever and the whole steroid thing was false (Ortiz) according to ESPN and every fan. A great guy off the field.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 07:22 AM) Even then, the strikeout difference is 200, and that is attributed to one player, Adam Dunn(189). Not the myth that is Ozzie Ball. Ozzie Ball was a really good pitching staff, not an offensive Philosophy/system What about Jim Thome? -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 06:34 AM) Justin Morneau & Derek Jeter took PEDs? No, but I'm saying he still could've won. His stats were still good. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) Very interesting. I would have been very in favor of us bringing him on at 1 year 8 million. Shows Hahn is looking/expecting to trade a SP because I doubt we would have gone with: 1 Sale 2 Qunitana 3 Johnson 4 Danks 5 Hector 6 Johnson 7 Rienzo Well, chances are one of Johnson and Rienzo would be in the minors. Also, you put Johnson twice. My bad, Josh and Erik. (edit)
