QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Um... he's immensely more talented than Paulino. He has a career 3.67 era or thereabouts. Just because he was more talented before doesn't mean anything now. Hasn't pitched in the majors in 2 years and only has 7 minor league innings in that time span. Probably going to be a while before you see any resemblance of that talent if it's all still there

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) My real question is why we didn't sign Chad Billingsley for 1.5 MM like the Phillies just did. Because he's essentially Felipe paulino. Hasn't pitched since April of 2013. Had Tommy John and another surgery.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) I don't understand. Their shortstop had a 2.4 WAR last year. It's not a weakness for them. Their SS is as good as Alexei for waaaaay less money. What shortstop for them had a 2.4 war. Ruben tejada had a 1.3 war and wilmer flores had a .2 war according to baseball reference. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tejadru01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/florewi01.shtml

Sox sign Gordon Beckham, designate Viciedo for Assignment

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) It has "competitive" written all over it. Not contender. We have a s***-tastic back end of the rotation and three black holes in the lineup. I also wouldn't be surprised at a high 3's ERA out of Shark. Hardly many teams have great back end of rotations. I wouldn't say our back end is s*** tastic. Danks should at minimum he can be a inning eater. Plus cooper has been working with noesi and danks this offseason to be better. These were during sox fest. Coop wants 33 starts 200 innings from Danks. Cut down on walks and home runs. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/559404161968898048 Coop on Noesi: I've got plans for this guy to nail down that spot. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/559402418958774272 Merkin said in his mail bag on the white sox site that cooper has been working with danks on lower arm level and lower leg kick. -

I'm kinda hoping tony campana gets the 4th outfield spot. That speed along with bonifacio, eaton and johnson would be awesome. -

Gordon Beckham hit .293/.349/.431 vs LHP in '14. Gives #WhiteSox platoon option for Conor Gillaspie or Micah Johnson & strong glove at 2B. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/560520189021007872 -

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) So is Rodon expected to start off in the pen or as a starter? It looks like Hahn said both. LHP Carlos Rodon has 'a real shot' to start the season in the majors, White Sox GM Rick Hahn said. Read/listen: http://t.co/odpy2ybRWB https://twitter.com/670TheScore/status/558732606154764288

Media session going on now with Hahn. Rick Hahn: "We view ourselves as a contender." #SoxFest2015 https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/558725040989282305 Hahn: "Our absolute intent and belief is that we are going to contend this year." https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/558725189648015360 Rick Hahn: "We don't do this just to win 80 games. We do this to play deep into October." #SoxFest2015 #WhiteSox https://twitter.com/JJStankevitz/status/558726388765949954 Rick Hahn says Carlos Rodon and Frank Montas could work their way to MLB rotation through the bullpen. #WhiteSox https://twitter.com/JJStankevitz/status/558725364340764674 Carlos Rodon will enter spring training as a starter, says #WhiteSox GM Rick Hahn. Nothing finalized re: Bullpen/rotation in 2015. https://twitter.com/JJStankevitz/status/558725807942930432 White Sox still may be in market for bullpen depth. Rick Hahn also said good def. infielder who can hit vs. LHP. T. Saladino an option. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/558727712899342339

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
Whisox05 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably still pitching will be brought in. Someone had asked dan Hayes on twitter if he thinks sox are done or still going to make more moves. Hayes said probably more bullpen, non roster invites and hopefully viciedo traded. Also scott Merkin has his mail bag up on sox website. Also asked if they were still looking at making moves. scott gave the usually hahn quote that they are always looking ways to make the team better. But said to think pitching. Also said cooper and danks are working on lower arm angle and lower leg kick this offseason. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/106...e?tcid=tw_share -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) Happy to hear Nate will be back but when is he expected to be ready? If I recall something like mid season.

As soon as the cubs signed lester during the winters meetings, Vegas was giving them pretty good odds to win it all. Sox after already having signed duke and laroche then adding samardzija and Robertson only increased their odds a little. I think the cubs are farther away then the sox but the media loves to give them the attention. Here is the article of why the sporting news is picking them. http://mobile.sportingnews.com/article/463...r-maddon-bryant After reading their reasoning there really isn't much support their pick. Pretty much spitting out names. Bruce Levine article pretty much says it's premature to be picking the cubs at this point. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/01/09/lev...-are-premature/

WhiteSox and Emilio Bonifacio agree to one year, $4 million contr
Whisox05 replied to Downtown518's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Viciedo shouldn't be and probably won't be on the bench or team. Carrying him on the bench would be a worse version of konerko last year. Ideal bench is to have versatility. Back up catcher ( Brantley, kottaras, nieto), 4th outfielder ( danks, shuck, compana), utility infielder (garcia, sanchez, saladino,) and super utility player ( bonifacio). Compana would be pretty interesting if he some how took the 4th outfield spot with his speed along with eaton, johnson and bonifacio would be crazy. Probably could still use a back up infielder and let Garcia and sanchez get consistent playing time in the minors -
