white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
Whisox05 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ya Detroit's offense had to bail out the bullpen but did you see them in the playoffs. The bullpen did them in and got them knocked out. look at the giants and royals who made the world series had good deep bullpens. Even if the Sox upgrade the bullpen they need to make sure the starting staff is good as well. Got to remember the bad bullpen was the domino effect of losing 5 pitchers (3 starters and 2 relievers) from the opening day roster in the first month alone. They lost another 2 more original relievers in may and another in june. losing guys due to injuries and ineffectiveness cause guys to more out of the normal roles and may not succeed as well. even if the sox do upgrades to the bullpen they need to make sure the starting staff is good enough to go deep into games otherwise they will tax the bullpen they just upgraded. the full staff needs to be good for the sox to compete. -
Jon morosi White Sox heavily involved in market for left-handed relief pitching. Currently have only 2 LH relievers on roster (Surkamp, Snodgress). https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/534029271740993536

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

Probably the most value alexei is going to have is right now. He's coming of getting a silver slugger award which is given to the best offensive player at that position in each league. He was a gold glove finalist. The yankees, mets, dodgers, mariners, and A's all need shortstops. If the sox want to compete this year then they need to do alot of upgrading to get to that point. If the sox sign say rasmus, morales, one of Hammel, Mccarthy or Masterson then that's not competing. You having to hope all of those guys bounce back to compete. Not one but all. If the sox are actually competing in 2015 then can still trade Alexei. Look at 2004 when carlos Lee was traded for podsednik and luis vizcaino. They also used the money saved to put towards other players like dye, hernandez, pierzynski and ect. If you trade Alexei and get at least 2 players back to go right into the opening day roster and use the money to put to other players then you are filling a bunch of positions at once you do open up ss but have guys to fill in. -
Last and only few times I heard the white sox connection with him was supposedly abreu trying to sell him to hahn. Other then that nothing on being at or holding work outs for him.

I hate to burst your bubble guys but I doubt we get Snydergaard for ramirez. If ramirez was younger and under contract longer then that might happen. If they wanted to give up their no 1 prospect and 10th best in all of baseball then they would be getting starlin castro, elvis andrus or troy tulowitzki. It would be like if the Mets had ramirez and we gave up carlos rodon for him. I doubt you guys would be happy with that. We should get a top prospect if we are moving him. I would say montero, bullpen arm and lower level prospects would be more in line. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 06:13 AM) I was reading on Yoan in mlb rumors. it quoted a gm as saying he is looking for a 30-40 million dollar deal. with the penalty that amount will incur, it will be 100% penalty. so taking the low dollar amount of 30 mil + 30 mil for the penalty ahhh no freaking way. Plus the team can't sign a player for more then 300k for the next 2 signing periods If they give that much of a bonus.

They were talking about andrus on mlb network last night. Said he didn't have a overall good year in 14. Came in with a bit more weight then usual and cost him defense and stealing bases. Funny thing they said was when Texas locked him up to the 8 year deal they were doing it in mind that when he was going to become a free agent the same year jeter retires so they didnt want him to turn around an leave to go to the yankees but now they are trying to get out of the contract lol

I think we just found our lefty for the pen. Eric stults is a free agent lol

The innings maeda pitched in Japan is only 12 innings more then tanaka pitched when he came over. That didn't stop the sox from trying to get him. Maeda may not have as higher talent has Tanaka tho. It would be more interesting if maeda can adjust to mlb. Iwakuma had over 1500 innings before he came over. If your worrying about him being thin then you have to worry about sale also. If you are worriying about innings then does anyone know what the average is for a pitcher in the states to pitch a high school level to college and then have to pitch in the minors to make it to the major leagues is.
-
Still no word on if kenta maeda will be posted. He is a 26 yr old right hander in the Japanese league. Wonder if the sox would have interest or not. He pitched last night and shutout the mlb all stars. Here is a article on him http://m.mlb.com/news/article/101216162/ke...in-japan-series

I'm up for trading Ramirez as long as its in a good deal. Hes one of the biggest trade chips the sox have and will bring back some good prospects. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is traded between now and the trade deadline. Ran across this article doing a break down of trading Ramirez. http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/08/wh...nding%20on%20FS -
Ran across this. I would be up for swapping viciedo and saunders http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/09/wh...chael-saunders/

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
Whisox05 replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) Dunno if this has been pointed out, but the A's need a SS. I could see an Alexei for Shark trade working out, with some other parts moving in the deal. Probably an A's prospect to Chicago. This is one of the solution i can see is alexei going to the A's for samardzija. Their top prospect is a ss but might be still of a couple years away. If the A's dont want to take on the extra salary of Ramirez or prefer younger talent then maybe a three team deal with the mets might help. Ramirez goes to mets, samardzija goes to the sox and prospects back to the A's from the sox and mets. Would maybe help not shedding so much of our prospects. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) Danks is a far different pitcher now than he was 3 or 4 years ago. You can't look at career ERAs and say "they are all the same pitcher." McCarthy and Hammel are far superior pitchers to Danks at this point in their careers. Masterson is debatable, but he's almost certainly only going to require a 1 year contract and if he flops, you can just cut your losses or try him out of the bullpen. There's no $28 million committment to him over the next 2 years like there is to Danks. Danks is a #4-5 starter at his absolute best right now, unless his velocity and command are magically restored between now and 4/1/15. McCarthy and Hammel both have #2-3 potential who are almost assured of pitching like a #4 even at their worst. Hammel era ballooned up to a 4.26 era when he came back to the al in just 67.2 innings pitched. Seems to me he would be a a 4 plus era in a full season in the al. He only pitched 176.1 innings which is less then danks. McCarthy pitched 200 innings for the first time in his career tho the first part of last year 5.01 era in 109 innings in the nl. I did do better in the al going 90 innings for 2.89 for the yankees. McCarthy and hammel are probably going to be 10 millions plus average a year pitchers when they sign their new contracts whether its one year or more. Not to far off from danks average salary. The only team i see taking danks contract with chance of eating it all is the yankees. then you might save a couple million signing one of the other 2. -
Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) And the thing is, Scherzer is a terrible investment at that price too, but it is better than Samardzija. Frankly, the Sox don't need to be looking to overpay for a starting pitcher right now. 56 pitchers put up an fWAR of 2 and 61 pitchers put up a bWAR of 2 last year, meaning there are plenty of good pitchers around the league. The Sox should attempt to acquire one of those guys rather than splurging and spending all this money they've freed up on a great starting pitcher when they already have 2 of those, another top 10 pitching prospect in the game at AAA plus several others with a mixed bag of ceilings between the A+ and AAA levels. If they are going to spend a signficant amount of money on one player, it should be for an offensive player. The three names that make the most sense to me to fill a slot in the rotation are (in my preferred order) Brandon McCarthy, Jason Hammel, and Justin Masterson. There are a few others who would not be bad options, but those are the ones I think I'd prefer. Scherzer is probably out of question but i have no idea what everyones interest in McCarthy, Hammel, and Masterson is. People again think danks suck and want to get ride of his contract but if you replace him with one of these three pitchers you are basically getting the same exact thing. They all have around the same career eras. McCarthy cant stay healthy long enough. Masterson has 2 season of eras in the 3s that made at least 100 innings. They all have the same pitching time frame of 7-9 years and magically danks has more innings then any of these guys. If the sox want to compete then they better throw some money at free agency for a better pitcher or trade for one. Right now the rotation is sale, quintana, danks and probably noesi. If they do add a pitcher and rodon does go into the rotation right off the bat then getting rid of danks is fine cause noesi most likely takes his spot. -

Only way I'm signing martinez if it's non guaranteed 4 year deal. 2 yr with 3rd year option or 3 yr with 4th option. Plus if they are going to sign him then the sox better make sure they are competing here on out. He has the seems to get better with age like konerko did but still has to have some point where he can't do it anymore. If he's signed her for a 4 yr deal and he craps out after year one when we better be competing then you have dunn all over again. He's pretty much a pure dh only at this point. He would look good in the lineup but to many things to go wrong and be a dead contract on the team. Would rather see someone younger and a rotation dh -

I think the sox would have to know if they trade for him they are getting a extension done. But the million dollar question is are the going to pony up the money and years for a pitcher like Samardzija or someone else. Since the last pitcher they gave the years and money to was danks and we know how that went. They never seem to give out big contracts to pitchers and I think they are afraid to. Tanaka would have been an exception because of his age. So unless they break that trend we might be looking at one or 2 yr deals with the likes of paulino in Mccarthy or Masterson which I don't want to see. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) That's perfectly fine. There's no need for the Sox to acquire Samardzija. I'm not sure people realize he's already going to be 30 next season. So are most of the other pitchers who are free agents this year are 30 plus. Not going to get to many good pitchers now of days hitting the market in their 20s. If you want a good pitcher in their 20s then you are going to give up a ton of prospects to get him.
