Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m not going to pretend to know a ton about Montes other than he has a ton of power. Mariners top prospect rankings are all over the place and some don’t have him in their top 3. More just an example I also think people are undervaluing Bohm a little bit. I get that he’s not a fit for the Sox, but I think there’s at least handful of teams that would be happy to have him. Especially after guys like Bregman and Adames go for a ton in free agency and there isn’t much left to fill an IF spot. -

Phillies out- Bohm, Crawford and Mick Abel Phillies in- Crochet Mariners out- Lazaro Montes and Tai Peete Mariners in: Bohm White Sox out- Crochet White Sox in- Crawford, Abel, Montes and Peete I could definitely live with something like that. Would prefer a 2nd higher end prospect back, but don’t mind a quantity package either if it’s 3 good (not great) prospects behind Crawford. I don’t think Bohm will be as hard to move in a 3 team deal as people are making it out either -

I think there is also an aspect where fans need to adjust expectations. Teams just aren’t unloading top prospects like they used to -

Taijuan Walker for Benintendi in a stand alone deal would actually make some sense for both sides. Saves the Sox $ in the long run and the Phillies may prefer to pay Beni to platoon in LF rather than have to eat all $36M left on Walker’s deal. -

Pretty sure the Phillies are running Bohm by everyone. It’s a foregone conclusion he won’t be in Philadelphia next year -

Getz has already pulled off 1 (bad) 3 team trade…Crawford + flipping Bohm to a 3rd team for another 2 good prospects sounds like a fairly ideal scenario. Just not sure what Bohm’s value is and what those 2 prospects would look like. -
Andrew Benintendi on the trade market (duh)
TheFutureIsNear replied to Harold's Leg Lift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The payroll is low enough Jerry, please don’t force Beni into a Crochett deal to make it lower. In a stand along deal the Sox would have to include 25-30 million…and still get nothing of value back -
At some point don’t you need to read the room? EVERY SINGLE Sox hitter has been an utter failure the past few seasons. Maybe, just maybe, it’s an organizational failure and not on the individual players? Again, I’m not saying that I expect Vaughn to have a miracle turnaround just because there’s a new coaching staff…but it is more than possible. Giving up on a former top 10 pick to shave $3M off of our $90M (or whatever it ends up at) payroll is indeed dumb. It’s over emotional fan thinking.
-
1- another team would scoop up Vaughn for sure 2- what on earth do you think saving $3-4M on Vaughn is going to do for us?? Letting Vaughn just walk would actually be one of the dumber things this franchise could do

Is there any connection between Venable and McKiven? Doesn’t seem like a bad hire, just curious who is actually selecting the coaching staff.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that’s what I want to happen, but that’s what I can definitely see happening. Hopefully that’s just my beaten down brain, but I do also struggle to see a team giving up any kind of “blockbuster: top of the rotation” type package for Crochet. Caba, Abel and Buckholder. I can see something like that being enticing to Getz while also being ideal for the Phillies. And it’s honestly not terrible, but would rely a whole lot on being able to “fix” Abel and get the best out of him. But that also seems to be a Getz theme of his targets. -

My prediction: Crochett to Phillies for 3 prospects NOT named Miller, Painter or Crawford -
Not really newsworthy, but crazy Dunn is 29 already. Seems like only a few years ago he was a top prospect

Gotta roll the dice sometimes in life…can’t live scared. The only realistic shot the Sox have to be competitive within 5 years (outside of the team being sold) hinges on the return from Robert and Crochet. There’s literally nothing else outside a small handful of prospects. Getting a mediocre return for Robert is going to do nothing to change that. -

Unless a team blows him away with an offer I don’t think Getz should be looking to deal Robert this offseason. His value couldn’t possibly be lower. Sure, there’s risk of injury, but it’s not like he could possibly be worse than last year. With getting healthy in the offseason + a whole new coaching staff there’s more reason to believe his value will go up rather than down. I thought trading Cease during the offseason last year was a bad move, Robert would be an even worse. -

I wonder if an inter-division trade could happen? Definitely shouldn’t be a deterrent with the Sox and our realistic window of getting back into contention. Detroit and Minny have a few hitting prospect that will work as trade partners. Basically, I think a smaller market team that knows they will never sign a top FA pitcher getting aggressive for Crochet would be ideal for the Sox. Dbacks would be another example -
Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin
TheFutureIsNear replied to Vote4Pedro's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s not Nevin and doesn’t seem to be a guy that Jerry/TLR would have pushed. About as happy as a Sox fan can get Venable’s main job isn’t going to be winning baseball games for at least 2 years, but hopefully he’s able to build a positive culture in the clubhouse and bring us up to at least a somewhat modern baseball franchise. Unfortunately Venuables long term future and not being a stepping stone manager relies on Getz being able to make good baseball moves and build a team. Not promising… -
Nevin is for sure going to be hire. Probably the only candidate that I had a negative opinion on. Just doesn’t feel like a guy that is going to move this franchise forward out of the Stone Age.
-
The crazy thing is there really aren’t any big name high $ managers available other than maybe Skip. Is Jerry really going to make this decision based on like $500k savings? And as soon as I typed that I realized it was a dumb rhetorical question. Of course he will.
-
Skip left the Marlins because he didn’t want to be part of a full rebuild with a new GM. What makes you think he was ever going to come to the Sox? All the rumors are saying he’s waiting until ‘26 for the right opportunity to open up

A national media guy isn’t going to be aware of a managerial interview? Could be wrong, but doesn’t seem likely. Wouldn’t a potential manager’s agent want that public for his client? I also could say you have a lot more faith in the Sox competence to keep an apparent secret (no idea why it would be) from leaking. No way they have everything in that tight of order. I’m not saying there has to be a grand conspiracy behind this. They just might not have conducted interviews YET.
-
Has there been a single report of an interview happening though? I know is still a little early with the playoffs still going on, but I feel like we would have heard SOMETHING if an interview occurred. Hell, if it was a different franchise we would probably know the flight # the potential coach flew in on.

Obviously no one is going to be able to turn bad players into good players, but a manager can definitely bring a culture shift to the locker room and dugout. That’s really the most important part, bringing in someone that is going to change the way this team has been doing things for a decade +.
